Was tonight a moral victory for CovCath?
Mueller has to be the best high school football coach in the state. His record speaks for itself. CCH represented themselves well last night, but no moral victory. If you ask their kids they would also probably say no. I'm sure they thought they would win.

I agree with Q good post. When HHS #30 started talking the coaches from CCH, I thought this showed a lack of class and should have been flagged. What some of these players don't understand is when they do these things and then the other team retaliates on your offense, someone eventually will get hurt. It happened last night when a CCH player drilled a HHS offensive lineman in the back shortly after the #30 incident.

Weinrich has to be the best coach in the state at making adjustments. CC went right down the field on their first possession and then HHS just shut them down until the game was decided. He has done this several times thru the years and especially coming out in the second halves of football games. When Dale finally hangs up his cleats, I look forward to Brian taking over. I do wish he could tone down some of the extra attitude some of his players have after making tackles when the other team has just made a 15 yard game. They should be upset that the other team just got a first down. Two plays that stood out to me, Hoge planting a CC dback with a great legal text book block right in front of the HHS student section. Then getting up quickly with no fan fare and running back to get ready for the next play. And Urlidge making a nice tackle right at the line of scrimmage and then helping the kid up. Nice touch of class.

Highlands 28 Covington Catholic 13
Game started out getting very chippy. Ref finally called a personal foul on Highlands and things settled down. Both coaches showed good sportsmanship at the end of the game, Highlands by taking a knee and Cov Cath by not calling timeout. Overall well played game by the Birds. They still have to get by a good Lex Cath team on their home field. Good Luck next week. Go Birds!

The game you'd most like to see if your team wasn't playing Friday night?
Trinity vs. Male Who is favored? My guess is until someone beats Trinity, they have to be favored.

Covington Catholic at Highlands Predictions
If HHS plays bad on offense they score 28 at least. I think CCH has to score at least 40. Weather could play a big role.

Covington Catholic at Highlands Predictions
This is the closest game to rivalry HHS has on their schedule. It is the first game the kids make on their calendar. They practice longer every day this than they have in weeks. They are amped up.

"Best of the Bluegrass" All-Star State Team
I know for sure that in other sports if your coach is not a member of the coaches association for that sport, not only can that coach not vote or nominate a player, no one from that team can be voted on or nominated by any other coach.

Covington Catholic at Highlands Predictions
Just hope for no rain and everyone comes out of the game healthy. Birds by 29. Dale always has to go for 2 at least once.

Holmes 76 Scott County 69 (Scrimmage)
Bolden has the most wicked crossover of any high school player I have ever seen.

Highlands 2013/2014
Alex Sheppard is about the same size as Harris and will play the 4 and 5 spots. Kenny Ball is a stout 6' 2". The team currently has 7 players out now that are not Freshmen before the football players arrive. Starting their upcoming scrimmages currently will be; Sheppard at the 5 Ball at the 4 Harris at the 3 A Freshman at the 2 Buten at the 1

Talking about split the pot, last week at HHS $119. At Elder the week before over $3,000.

Highlands/Elder Predictions
It will be interesting to see if Houliston can handle the cold weather and not effect his passing. This will be his first game this year in the cold. The cold effects every kid differently. Besides that, this game will be decided in the trenches. Highlands has to give him enough time to throw the ball. Elder will try and pound Highlands with the run. Hopefully this will be a great high school football game.

Will Laine Harrett get many minutes of meaning varsity action this coming season?

Mike Flynn Resigns From Highlands
I also have to disagree with this comment. Cole Davis Roberts is one of the best soccer players in KY and spends his time player soccer in the winter and will probably get a big time college scholarship. His basketball skills were limited to playing the 5 spot and since he hasn't grown much since 8th grade he isn't taller than the guys he is playing against. He has always been soccer first. Alex is also soccer first and didn't really enjoy basketball. He had a decent shot, but is hard to tell if he could have produced enough to make a difference on the varsity level. He saw the player ahead of him and elected not to play this year.

Mike Flynn Resigns From Highlands
I wish for Coach Flynn all the best as he heads to South Carolina. He always treated my son well and I have the utmost respect for him. I do believe the Birds need to go young for their new head coach. Hope Dale does his due diligence and just doesn't hire the first person he talks with. It would be nice if some of the fathers of recent past basketball players could help sift thru the applicants and be a quasi selection committee. Spring football practice started today at the Fort, so this will take up a lot of his time. They need to have a basketball coach in place by the end of spring break.

I noticed that McDonald didn't come out also. I also noticed Drew was not forced to move much on defense. Much of the time, especially in the first half, Holmes had the ball out top and were basically trying to break down their man one on one and drive to the hole. Long possessions allowed Drew to rest while on defense. If Holmes had been running more than Drew would have had to come out of the game. New Cath did not send many players to the offensive glass and got back on defense to prevent the run out. Bolden is amazing in the open court.

35 years ago in Lexington, the 4 city schools would play a double header in Memorial coliseum and would easily put 10,000 fans in there to watch. Great atmosphere, and the kids loved playing there.

I agree with MPSL89, there needs to be a shot clock. There in the first half, I though I was watching a Highlands game. Offense on both ends was not very good. Score at half was 19 to 18. And the game was dragging. Bolden and McDonald were by far the 2 best on the floor.

Bolden has to have the best crossover in the state. Right before the end of the first half he did a crossover on Devoto, waited, Devoto regrouped and then Bolden crossed him over again and just about had Devoto on the ground. This kid is special and fun to watch.

No way is New Cath rated that low. I think Holmes and New Cath are the 2 best teams in the region.

HHS did a good job controlling the bigs of New Cath. McDonald did not do a whole lot until he sank all his free throws at the end of the game. Highlands had their chances. Some turnovers early and some missed shots late and this game could have had a different ending. Very proud of the way Highlands came out and competed. They left it all on the court. This was good hard nosed basketball. Good luck to New Cath going into Regions. If they play Holmes, I will make sue I attend.

Highlands/NCC 36th district semi final
HHC will have to play it's best game of the year to win this game. They will pack in the zone or keep 1 foot in the lane on their zone defense and hope NCC doesn't kill them from the outside. Luke Turner and Drew Houliston have to knock down several 3's and everyone else has to hit some open shots. Nick Turner has to score some and can't get into foul trouble. If HHS tries to slow it down too much they will turn it over. Just hope this game is close going into the 4th quarter.

Newport Central Catholic 59 Highlands 22
Dale Mueller and Brian Robinson were there the whole game. I just hope they were paying attention and noticed how embarrassing this game was. I really felt bad for the kids. The kids played hard and they might be over matched but there is no way the NNC guys are 40 points better than the HHS kids. It will be interesting to see over the next couple of weeks if the kids dial it in or if they come out fighting. My guess is the feeling of hitting bottom they might relax and start hitting some shots. I have to had it to NCC, they played very well last night. Actually the students have showed up more this year than they did last year.
