Highlands 2013/2014

Basketball season for 2013/2014 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from

Highlands? Remember, please be constructive.

I ran into a parent of a ball player last night and his said the team is buying into coach Listerman. They are excited and ready for some hoops. Didn't get a chance to ask him, but who are the kids in the mix to start? One of the hardest lineups to predict due to the unknown footballers.

Good luck to my feathered friends!

Yes TAC the kids have bought in much as they have for Dale in football and Jeremy in baseball. This team may not win more games than last year, but you can bet they will compete to the final whistle. Football kids have been present and accountable from day one which is a good thing. The key word is "accountable" because that is what he is holding the kids too. Really like how things went this summer and hopefully it can carry over to the season. Another big plus is having Coach in the building so that he can be conversing with these kids on a daily basis.

I agree that the line-up is a hard one to predict, but not for unknown footballers - for other reasons.

A couple of players coming off season long injuries last year (Buten, Hergott), one player back in the program after not playing for 2 years (Hoge), a few players missing summer workouts due to other sport commitments (True, Ramey), and most importantly the style of play that coach Listerman demands -- make up some of the reasons for the uncertainty.

The players in the mix for varsity playing time are: True, Houliston, Buten, Hergott, Greene, Brockett, Harris, Weyer, Hoge, Ramey, and Hebel.

Sounds like they will be fairly deep. 9th is brutal this year. Hope the birds get a chance to gel by the time the tourneys roll around. Is the district seeded this year?

How good can the Houliston kid be this year??

Could end up being top 10 in the region. Definetly underrated. I think he is one of the better "scorers" in the region. First time I ever watched him play, he dropped 25.

A kid that I really like is Ryan Greene who is also a standout WR on the football team. Strong left with a tough game. Very quick with the ball. Buten is a small PG but tough and runs the team well.

I don't think Ramey is going to play. I believe he is going to concentrate more on baseball. He has a chance to play at the next level if he works hard and gets some professional instruction.

Hopefully they are healthy this year as well.

Could be a tougher year than last as far as wins/losses but overall the program is in a better spot with Coach L.

Ramey not playing IMO hurts this team offensively at the post.

Houliston is a great athlete. I agree he could work his way into a potential top ten player this year.

The Greene boy is one of the purest athletes I have ever seen. I just don't think he has spent enough time on the hard wood to truly develop his basketball potential. If he ever could have, he would be a real treat. Not a knock on him -- I'd be working on the same things he is. He is an outstanding footballer and has the school record for the high jump. I think free school may be in the cards for him in one of those other two sports. He is very gifted and is a fantastic kid.

Love "B" Buten. While undersized, he has an over sized heart. He is lightning quick and strong enough to defend taller guards. He is 100% after his injuries this past year and will create havoc for those he guards this year. He also has a great handle. He needs to be a little more aggressive on shooting the rock. Even though he has a nice shot, he seems timid at times.

When is the first game?

Friday December 13

I laugh and have tremendous respect for this at the same time.

Two defections from the list for sure.

True not playing, has football scholly to WKU and will spend winter in the weight room.

Ramey not playing, had breakout type year on the diamond and will be concentrating on baseball.

Any body have the size of the team? Without True will they have a hard time matching up with some other 9th region foes.
