Congrats to Holy Cross giving the top team all they wanted. Jmu I notice you mention the Holy Cross pitcher as having a quality outing but don't mention her by name. All indications are your daughter is a HC player, do you really not know the pitchers name or are you intentionally not naming her? I may be wrong but i would think she would enjoy the props for a strong effort.

I don't have any cake glasses to take off. No rooting interest at all. I just watch and follow a lot of high school softball around here. And when a ranking or comparison of teams is thrown out, I simply hit the KHSAA site and check results. I'm looking for W's and L's. I don't look at we came close against this team or that team. And our coach used our backup because Susi was having a fight with her boyfriend or we had a bad hop or a close call that changed the outcome. Teams have played close to 12-15 games. Results are there in black and white. The top 4 stand out. Highlands while not a great team has something NCC and Holy Cross don't and that is wins over St Henry, Dixie and NCC( that HC doesnt have). Now you can say well it was close and we maybe could have won etc.... but I see Ls against good teams and W's against bad. So based on this I woulld have Highlands above Holy Cross and NCC and Dixie. My opinion and how I see it.

I think Ryle is solid 1. And Conner , Notre Dame and Boone could be listed in any order from 2-4 with little argument. You have to have 5.Highlands and 6.St Henry. 7. Dixie above NCC and Holy Cross without question. Holy Cross and NCC have zero good wins. Holy Cross has beaten Ludlow twice, Bellevue, Holmes, Dayton , Latin, and Beechwood. NCC is very similar. Scott twice, Beechwood, Villa, Bellevue, Holmes, and then the tie breaker of beating Holy Cross. Highlands schedule is fine and to discount their wins over St Henry and NCC already and put them below NCC and St Henry is a joke. Basically there is a huge gap between the top 6 with Dixie in the argument at sneaking in at 6. After that comes the next tier of Holy Cross and NCC and Cooper and Beechwood.

I attended this game and a classic isn't what comes to mind. 21 runs in fast pitch? If this was a slow pitch game at softball city then maybe but i like my fast pitch with a little more pitching and defense. Plus 12 walks.

Glen Este has certainly been very good over the last few years in softball. They do a nice job. Good to see some nky teams playing cincy teams to gauge where they stand. Love to see more of it. Possibly a cincy vs nky 4 game involving top teams at a park showdown sometime would be nice.

Now that is some funny stuff. So if Coach Dawn and Coach Stull drop a couple 8-22 basketball seasons from now on and just say we don't care about the regular season just game one of district tourney I wonder how that would go over for the Bred faithful. Everyone cares about the regular season unless they aren't winning and then they are just preparing for post season

Ok fine throw out Florida. I also see a 13 vs Simon a 16 vs Knoch and a 9 vs Highlands in losses. All teams dealing with similar weather issues. Hard to win in fast pitch against good teams giving up that many.

So Brossart gave up a 12, 12, and a 14 spot in this trip to Florida. Sounds like a good effort on defense in football but not going to get it done in fast pitch softball. Was their pitching considered this suspect this season? You can't win games in fast pitch giving up those kinds of numbers.

Didn't NCC lose just one game on the jv level last year? I kind of was expecting them to be the class of nky this year with that group moving to varsity. Or was the jv 7th graders last year and they are now 8ths

Am I crazy or didn't NCC already beat Scott this year badly or is this from same game? Typically teams from different regions don't play each other twice do they unless a tourney is involved?

I agree on the overthrow play at 3rd. The ball was thrown over the third basemens head and the shortstop was backing up the play and caught the ball but her tag attempt was nowhere close to the baserunner. Logic would tell you that because you would have had 2 fielders standing on the bag for the throw, when in fact the ball was pretty far over the tall 3bs head and the SS caught it behind her.

That is what I saw on the play. The SS dove for the ball knocked it up, bobbled and went to the bag with her hand and touched and runner was called safe. I thought it was the right call but without being alot closer it was hard to tell. To make the claim she was laying on the bag and beat the runner by 2 steps kills your credibility because no call not involving a tag would be missed that badly. Still bottom line is no runs scored on that play. Next girl smoked a ball in the gap for 2 runs and basically put the game on ice. To say it was really 1-0 there was a bad call is begging. Brossart really only threatened one time when they had first and third with 2 outs , but a hard smash to 2nd was handled to kill the threat.

The call at 2b was a bang bang play. No runs scored on it. The next batter shot a ball in the gap for the 2 runs. Have to absorb the close call and get the next girl out.

I took it to mean he is saying if your choosing a small catholic high school your doing it for a quality and catholic education. If your going there to win state in every sport your probably not going to achieve that at a small school. A good competitive sports program is just a part of it and that is what it should be. I agree that Voskuhl is by far the best player in region. And Schaeffer is an interesting case. In the games I saw Highlands play she doesn't score or take over like you would expect the division 1 player going to a pretty good school to do. I've seen rcc9 say she does a lot of other things besides scoring so well is what makes her a talent but when the chips are down in a region final I've got to get 25 points from my D1 player. I think the other players expect it from her. Now in college she may be the better college level player as it seems recruiters feel since Voskuhl is going to Clev. St., because she brings more to the table in other areas. But I still need points in the region final. I think both these teams lose a ton for next year. Highlands was carried by seniors and Voskuhl was NDAs true star. Look for things to go back to NCC, Boone, Ryle and I think Holy Cross will be good in the 9th.

As I stated in another thread on this region, NDA would win with ease due to having regions best player. She fires in 28 and does what a top player does, carry her team to victory.

Prewitt was scoreless 1st quarter. But the impressive part was the shots weren't there and he didn't force anything early. Let the game come to him and it started to in a big way. He hit the 2 threes in 2nd. And then put on a show in the 3rd when Montg. Co pulled away.

I was also impressed with Montgomery County. Guards did a great job of breaking down Brossarts defense and getting into the lane and causing bigs to help and getting open shots. Brossart was able to get the ball down low at will but struggled to convert. A team with a strong center will give Montgomery problems. However they have a lot of solid players in their top 5 that can hurt you. Prewitt is an interesting player. Looking at him in a group of 6'4" guys he is probably last one I pick. Just didn't look like he is gonna be a "great player". But he gave a very nice effort. Didn't force shots, takes what you give him. His outside shot while not looking great leaving his hand was solid. Best part about him I felt was he acted like he has been there before. He was best player on floor but never showed the "me" emotion. No pointing to the crowd or showing anyone up. He went about his business in a very professional manner. Refreshing to see from a top player.

Don't see Highlands being overlooked. They have been indentified as having the most travel players around and brought in a pitcher from another school. They are probably looking to be the top team outside of NDA from what i've read.

G1 why do you say they will be in 2 years? This region runs through NDA without question regardless of floor. They roll with ease. They have the best player and plenty of surrounding parts..

I'm going with NCC and Cov. Cath finals with NCC winning it. The combination of size and length with enough speed is going to be the difference. They don't really have a bad loss this year. Trinity is solid and the Cov Cath game could have turned out different if Seibert doesn't get hurt or maybe it doesn't but still not a bad loss. Cov Cath is obviously solid with the wins they have but they have thrown a couple klunkers in there as well.
