St. Henry 3 Bishop Brossart 0

Featured Replies

According to NKYFAN,

Noelle Butts with 9 K's for the 2 hit shut out. Freshman Teresa Urban was 3-4.

Bad call at 2nd base cost Brossartt 2 runs. Should have been 1 to 0 game. Noell pitched a good game.

The call at 2b was a bang bang play. No runs scored on it. The next batter shot a ball in the gap for the 2 runs. Have to absorb the close call and get the next girl out.

Should have been 3 outs. A bang, bang play is not what I or any of the Brossart fans seen. Our shortstop had the ball laying on the bag 2 steps before she got there. Anyway, we didnt hit and we would have got beat 1 to 0 anyway.

You see bad calls every game. In the SK and HC game tonight there were at least two really bad calls that went against HC, but had no real effect on the game. I am sure there was a couple against SK also I just tend not to see or remember those as much!

Yeh, I don't remember the opposing teams bad calls as well:lol:

For a force out to be effective, one must have control of the ball when touching the base of the force out. Both umpires saw it that way. No control, no out.

She dropped the ball twice and then lifted the ball to touch the bag with it. By the time she put the ball on the bag, the runner's foot was there. The right call was made. Didn't really matter. Can't win with 0 runs.

Where do you see it on NKYFAN? I can't ever find much on there about softball.

Wasn't there. Can't comment on the call as to its veracity.

However, a one-run game is much different than a 3-run game in the late innings.

Very true. That was a big hit that drove those two runs in, which certainly made it easier to finish the game out.

From NKYFAN's twitter

That is what I saw on the play. The SS dove for the ball knocked it up, bobbled and went to the bag with her hand and touched and runner was called safe. I thought it was the right call but without being alot closer it was hard to tell. To make the claim she was laying on the bag and beat the runner by 2 steps kills your credibility because no call not involving a tag would be missed that badly. Still bottom line is no runs scored on that play. Next girl smoked a ball in the gap for 2 runs and basically put the game on ice. To say it was really 1-0 there was a bad call is begging. Brossart really only threatened one time when they had first and third with 2 outs , but a hard smash to 2nd was handled to kill the threat.

I wasnt there either but yor right sounds like a big call. Alot different thinking down 1 run vs 3 runs late in the innings. Congrats to ST. Henry on the win

I was there and it was a very bad call. She dove, made the play, dropped the ball while laying on the ground by the bag. Picked it up with her hand and tagged the bag with the ball in hand a full step before the girl got there. She never lost control after she grabbed it with her hand. Since it was a force out all she had to do is tag the bag and she DID do that. Inning should have been over. The base ump missed 3 call. The girl going to 3rd was out as well on the overthrow that the shortstop caught and tagged the runner on the arm. She tagged her hard enough on the arm that you could see her arm get knocked back. He had a bad day. The SHDH pitched did a nice job keeping BBHS hitter off balance and as well as she pitched BBHS would have had a hard time scoring. Did have 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs but a ground out to second ended the inning.
