Again Ryle does what they always seem to do and finds a way to win and HC does what they have been doing a lot of this year and finds a way to lose a close game to a good team.

 

Holy Cross was up 2-0 going into the 6th when Ryle scored 3 to take the lead.

 

IMO the biggest difference in the game was the ability of Ryle to get their bunts down and to field bunts. HC didn't do either of those two things well. I could be wrong but I believe in the 6th Rlyle scored those 3 runs on 2 hits, add in a walk or two and a couple misplays for HC on the bunts and there you go.

 

For my money Ryle's pitcher was the best we have faced this year. Throw in the fact that we only played Silver Grove this week and haven't faced anyone with real good speed in a couple of weeks and she was double tough on our hitters. I believe she had at least 12k's, and I thougt she did a real good job at fielding her position. HC did have better at bats as the game went on. I would say hits was pretty close to even and both teams made some nice plays to keep the game close.

 

HC had a runner on 3rd with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th with my kid up to bat and of course she grounds out!! She was ahead of the count and Ryles pitcher made a good pitch low and outside and she swung.

 

HC is knocking on the door but can't get in!

 

Big shout out to HC's pitcher also, she battled hard all day. Ryle was VERY patient at the plate and HC's pitcher had to work from behind a lot but still did more than enough to give us a chance to win.

Well coached teams will do this every time, exploit a weakness in the opponent. Congrats to the Lady Raiders on finding a way to win, good teams will do this. Tough game to lose, but Congrats to the Indians for hanging tough with the NKY "big dog". I feel your pain JMU.

I remember watching the Ryle at Highlands game last year, the "cakesters" were up late in the game, then Patti and Steve had the girls put on a "bunting clinic" that was unbelievable. If I recall correctly, 5 bunts in the 6th inning and two on 2-strike pitches.

It's more about the D than hitters. Field the bunt. Fielding it well makes it so that the other team has to hit you to beat you. Not fielding it well results in disaster come pressure situations.

All indications are your daughter is a HC player, do you really not know the pitchers name or are you intentionally not naming her? I may be wrong but i would think she would enjoy the props for a strong effort.

I would like to agree but until they win a big game they are just in the next group.

Lotsa teams in the next group. Doesn't mean they can't/won't knock someone off when it matters most. Stay under the radar until it means something.
