  1. Lance mccalister had a great question on his show tonight. Since big red machine dominates so much talk of reds still, he named his all star team by position since 1980. I caught his starting 8 but had to miss his pitchers/managers portion. For his inf he had Hannigan at C, Votto, Phillips, Larkin and Frazier. OF was Daniels, Davis and Parker. His other nominations were a bench player, rhp starter, lhp starter, set up man, closer and manager. Mine: Oliver, Votto, Phillips and Larkin ( my 2 most confident ), Rolen, Dunn, Davis and Bruce. Steuggled at C because no stud, 3b cause there were some really good ones and Rf because Bruce has been consistent but Parker was a stud. My bench player would be Freel, RHP Soto slightly over Rijo, LHP Browning, set up Charlton over Scott Sullivan who should have made Lance's list and closer is Chapman slightly over Franco. Myers not on list. Manager is Lou. He has his list on his website. What does everyone else think?
  2. From some of my favorite bands: Maxwell's Silver Hammer from Beatles, Behind Blue Eyes from The Who, Dancing In The Street from VH, Dancin in The Dark by Bruce and from a group I used to like but am so sick of hearing same songs on radio, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
  3. It was one of those you'll look back on in a few years and say that was pretty lame, although they all looked to be legitimately wiped out at end. Is Luke Harper gone? On another note, I really wonder how much Shane and Steph like each other. I know it's all acting but even way back when, I wondered if they got along. Time for HHH to return?
  4. I ask Red Sox fans and not trying to be a jerk? This guy had declining stats 4 or 5 years ago and there was talk of him being released. Last few years, nearing age 40 I believe, he is a monster again. I know there's testing but you don't get better nearing 40. I've often wondered if him and AP have found a way around it.
  5. Batters see lots of different pitchers in games today. And yes they throw harder. But... And I ask since I rarely if ever look up these things, are walks up as well because it seems rare to have 1,2,3 inning anymore? Or maybe it's just this years Reds team!! Welsh was saying in broadcast tonight that pitchers rarely throw 90% anymore, it's all out and go. The good ones realize that location is so much more important than velocity. Cueto throwing 93 now is better than him at 96. Doubt many teach that though at any level. Location and deception!!
  6. A question with no idea if it's ever been talked about before. I looked at NCC's schedule and don't see CCH. Is there any particular reason or is it just because it doesn't work? Especially with NCC's former coach there now. Seems like they should play every year
  7. For the same reason Smoltz, Glavine and Avery were in big leagues, to learn. Balls a few inches off the plate get swung at in minors, rarely in majors. Have to learn that somewhere. Not saying the Reds have a solid MLB pitcher and two HOF pitchers right now like those three but why not pitch them up here? Not winning pennant anytime soon.
  8. Baseball is fine other than the economic setup. It is now a localized sport like it or not. When the Yankees, Red Sox or Dodgers do well it helps become more of a national draw. Probably Cubs as well. When you play 162 games in a year, most people who are not die hard fans will not focus that long on what's happening. Football is great because of the pace but what really helps is playing once a week. There's time for a buildup. Watch ESPN and see how it's so overhyped it's almost not worth watching. MLB is not changing much nor should it. It's a mentally tough game to play and there will be stinkers once in a while. The sport has been bypassed nationally by football and the NBA and soccer soon if not already. Doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. If it's not your cup of tea, fine, watch what you like.
  9. No kidding, my friends and I were sitting on deck tonight overlooking ocean and we're talking about good songs and bad videos. There's a thousand of them from the 80's but I said this video from Squier pretty much ruined a nice career. The one that really comes to mind is Breakin The Law from Priest. Just awful. Pretty Woman and Dancin in Streets by Springstein come to mind also.
  10. When these guys first formed I thought it would be awful and at first I thought it was. Now when I get a chance to watch, they are what I look forward to seeing. Not sure if it has hit the status of DX funny but it's pretty darn good.
  11. As I sit at the Roadhouse having a chop and cold beer, I pray that the country music, or what they call country, is not around in 2 years much less 200. My goodness when did it get this bad? I don't listen to radio much. The Waylon I have on my iTunes will get extra play tomorrow. This is awful.
  12. I have my doubts he can come back from missing two years of live pitching much less the injuries. Tough to get the baseball instincts back after being off that long They do have a bunch of nice young arms but very doubtful they all stay healthy to form that nice rotation. What was the year reds starters didn't miss a start under Dusty? Next year they all missed some time I believe.
  13. Congrats to Camels and especially Coach Daines. Big fan of his from his time at CCH. Wish he was part of one there but glad he was able to get another.
  14. Is Craddock not their ace? Thought he was.
  15. Any way you put it, that was a heck of a run they had. Lots of talent and some tough kids. The 2005 region final was my favorite game to watch still. What an atmosphere that night.
  16. I'm always amazed at those who know better than the coaches. In the 9th, beechwood and Conner both held their aces back and nothing was said. They won. Roesel holds his back and gets crucified. Krumps has no 1, throws who he thinks is his best knowing he's going against one of the top 2 or 3 pitchers in region who has big game experience. Doesn't work out but as others have said, can't win if you don't score. Sometimes you go with a hunch or know you have to save someone to have even a chance against next opponent. It's a crapshoot. Btw, highlands winning was not an upset at all. When you have Raisor, Doty and Rohm you have three kids who can beat anyone on given day and go deep.
  17. Let them win a region first and then see what happens. Long way to go. That 2004 team was good and the 2005 team was damn good also.
  18. I would think Ryle is now a big fan of CCH winning tomorrow night and that Conner a big fan of Beechwood. Don't think anyone wants Ryle, Beechwood or Conner as 1st round opponent.
  19. I'm suprised Shannahn waited until he was done speaking. Think it would have taken me less than a minute to get up. Would have taken Paul Brown 2 seconds!!
  20. And if they hadn't signed any of those players to long term contracts many on this site would have been complained about that as well. When you're a small market team it's a fine line. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  21. They get the most hype but Ryle is the best team top to bottom IMO. Both are pretty good .
  22. I don't take it as that. Schmidt was a really great player as were Morgan, Robinson and Bench. Unbelievable that he played with those 3 alone not to mention Perez, Seaver and many other very good ones. I remember as a kid watching Schmidt and Garvey when they were batting and thinking there was no way the Reds pitcher would get them out. Jack Clark and Bonds did the same as I got older.
  23. Did Willie Anderson make the playoffs with the Ravens? He was so underrated while with the Bengals.
  24. Judging by the score it seems there must not have been much pitching and/or defense by either team. Did Campbell throw more than two pitchers?
