Which class is the most difficult to win a state title in, 5A or 6A?
So, let me get this straight. Basically, what you're saying is that if you put PRP, Manual, Meade County, and Simon Kenton in 5A or 3A they would have a tougher time winning state titles in those classes then they would in 6A..... All of this due to fact that Belfry, Central, Boyle Co., Lex Cath, Highlands, BG, CovCath etc. are stronger programs than Trinity, St. X, Male and Scott County. I'm just not buying that........ Now, if you say that 3A has the deepest pool of possible state contenders than any other class I would be inclined to agree with you. But, the quality and separation of the top level teams is much different in 6A.

I think that is fair to say. Manual was very good this past season. They didn't get the statewide recognition due to their district-mates. But, I still say a lot of people would have ranked Dixie 3rd due to how they dominated most everyone on their 13 game win streak. That muddies the water a little bit in trying to compare 6A schools out in the state to the powers in Jefferson County.

I agree with Guru that it is 6A by a landslide. Owensboro (and Collins before that) proved that you can compete with Highlands at the end of the title road. And, that was in Class 4A. In 5A you add BG to the mix with CovCath. Then Pulaski Co. and Southwestern will both have good teams this year. Highlands is likely the slight favorite over BG for the title but if any of those teams beats Highlands I wouldn't be surprised based on what we've seen from Collins and O'boro in the past. In 6A, you have T, X, and Male and usually one other public school out in the state that is very strong. After that there is a MASSIVE drop off. Heck, last season if we ranked teams in all classes many people would have ranked Trinity, Male and Dixie Heights as the top 3 teams overall. And, we saw what Trinity did to Dixie in the state finals. There is just a huge gap between the top 6A schools and the rest. And, based on another comment above. I think it would be easier for Trinity to win the 5A title than it would be for Highlands, CovCath, or BG to win the 6A title.

Is there an "attack on football this state has chosen to pursue"
Don't be surprised if spring practice is done away with for football (at least, full gear-full contact spring practice). This, apparently, was hinted at very strongly at the state A.D. conference in Louisville last week.

Should Coaches HAVE to Teach?
Unfortunately, I see the same thing as the administrator that ChiefSmoke talked to. 1 - In the past few years more and more head coaches have been hired who do not have college degrees and they have been placed in classified (non-teaching) school positions. These positions may include instructional assistants, school security, etc. They are paid hourly; and, obviously, not near what teachers are. So, this speaks to two points ChiefSmoke made. You are getting individuals with non-teaching backgrounds in head coaching spots and it is saving school districts money in some ways because the pay for classified spots is less and these positions are non-tenured. So, if the administration fires a coach then they can fire them from the classified spot and open that up for the new coach and around we go. If a tenured teacher is a head coach and gets fired from coaching (which is always year to year) they may stay on as a teacher and it doesn't necessarily open up a new spot for the administration to hire a new coach. The administration then also may have a teacher they just fired as a coach who isn't 'all in' with the administration anymore sticking around. Many of the basketball coaches who have been hired into classified spots in our state in the past few years do have an AAU background. I'm not saying any of this is good or bad (although I do have an opinion), but it just goes along with something else mentioned here. 2 - We are the only country in the world that trains athletes through the educational system. In other countries all of the youth athletics are club driven. There is already club soccer, AAU basketball, various summer baseball circuits, etc. There are now club 7on7 travel teams in football. It is just a matter of time before schools drop athletics and they will be ran by outside forces. In my opinion, the only reason this isn't talked about more right now is because college athletics is still going strong. If that infrastructure fell due to schools being able to afford full cost of attendance scholarships, paying out image and likeness fees, paying for athlete health care after graduation, etc, etc, etc. then you would see high school sports die a quick death. Luckily, for me, I will be out of it when this rolls around and my son will have already had the opportunity of participating in education driven high school athletics.

Does anyone know why Coach Peterson left KCU?

Open Jobs/Filled Jobs 2014-2015
I do agree with you that I think Warren Central would beat Bullitt Central and East could play with them and possibly beat them, but I still think BC is the better job in the coming years due to being in a better district for their level of talent and support. Remember, that Seneca beat Glasgow but neither one of us would likely say Seneca is a better job than Glasgow. They just have a depth and quality of athlete that Glasgow doesn't. Difference between an average 6A school and a top 2A school.

Open Jobs/Filled Jobs 2014-2015
I'm not sure Waggener has an easy road to the region semi's with Boyle, LexCath, and Garrard being in their sister district. Much less the state semis. It would take a darn near miracle for that to happen. They also have Lou. Central and Bardstown in their district. I'm going to have to disagree with you big-time on that one. Bullitt Central is the job I would put on the list and above many that you had ahead of Waggener. They have good support and solid players in a very winnable district for them. I would definitely put them ahead of Warren East and Warren Central just because I don't think those two programs are going to have the depth of talent to win multiple playoff games in the coming years (on exception of Warren Central THIS season. After this season the Dragons may fall off in a dramatic way). Hard to argue with the rest of your list, though.

I'm sure ChiefSmoke appreciates the comment on there being no excuse for not winning.... :walk:

2015 Class 6A Preseason Top 10
Whether they make a deep playoff run or not next season it won't happen in 6A. Dixie will be in 5A and occupy a district with Highlands, CovCath and Grant Co.

Lincoln County Open
Has the pay gotten any better for the Lincoln job? At one time it was the lowest coaching pay in the Central KY area. Plus, dealing with what some have said on here about losing top athletes to basketball it may not be that attractive of a position at the current time.

Couldn't he just wear two headsets. :lol2:

Lincoln County Open
He's been doing radio broadcasts. Would Cooper take the job if offered? The last time a former Lincoln player had the job was Robbie Lucas and he only lasted two years before returning to Somerset and eventually taking that program to state. Sometimes it's tougher to coach in your hometown.

Doss Coaching Position
Congrats to Goodin on getting a job at KWC. Obviously did a fine job at Doss.

Casey County Girls Job?
Any word yet? What about assistant Stacy Terry?

Garrard County Coaching Position Open
I thought the same thing but then I thought of Perry going to Garrard with his son going into his Senior year so I thought I would throw it out there. I think Shawn is a heck of a person and coach.

Lincoln County Open
I know Cooper used to work for Estes at Lincoln. So would Estes come back and work for Cooper?
-
Is the Montgomery job open?
Would Scott Hundley be considered for this position? I know he was once an assistant at MoCo
-
Garrard County Coaching Position Open
Would be great if Shawn Conley (current Lincoln assistant) applied. Great coach and even better person. Has head coaching experience and would do well at Garrard.
-
Lincoln County Open
Would be interesting if they seriously considered Chris Cooper. Would he bring Kevin or Spencer Crutchfield with him as an assistant? I know they used to work together. I don't think Kevin or Spencer were kept on Perry's staff at Garrard.

Warren Central - Top All-Time 3 Players
Actually, Damon started on the DL as a Freshman and was an all-state DL as a Sophomore and Junior. He started at Fullback also as a junior but was moved to Tailback after the first round playoff victory against Christian County when starter and leading rusher Tony Cooper broke his ankle and was out for the duration of the playoffs. Subsequently, John Napier, Tom Napier (John's younger brother who would go on to play FB for Army and be 2nd in the nation in rushing as a true Freshman), and Chad Dillard rotated at the FB position for the rest of the playoffs all the way to WC's 1st state title appearance. My 3 would be: 1- Damon Hood 2- Lonnell Dewalt 3-Courtez Metcalfe (KY/TN all star game MVP in 94. Played TB, QB, WR, FS, CB, P and K at WC. State champ in Triple Jump and Long Jump. Led Dragons to 93 Class AAA state semis with a team of maybe 35 players. One of few 3 year starters during the golden age of WC football. Honorable Mention: Vada McCoy (one of Coach Hood's first TB's. His teams were terrible, but he was fantastic and held nearly every school rushing record until Damon. He is the guy often forgotten in WC football lore due to some bad teams, but was electric) Tucker Ballinger (Senior, all state LB on WC's 1st region title team. Went on to start at LB at G'town and lead them to a National Title as an All American team captain) Chris Turner (great QB on WC's 1st region team who went on to play many years in MLB) Walter York (see above poster) JJ Jewell (started at QB on WC's 1st state team and later at WKU) Tracey Reid (leading WR on first state team) Chris Snell (leading tackler and all-state LB on both state teams. Went on to WKU) John Crabbe (all state OL on both state teams who played 4 years on scholly at APSU) Tom Napier (as said above, played at Army. His late 4th quarter 60+ yard TD run to beat BG in 91 lives as one of the greatest plays in school history) Tyrone Tackett (DL who played with Ballinger at both WC and G'town) Yancey Minton (all state OL who played at WKU. Strongest player during WC's best years) Andre Metcalfe (Courtez' lil bro who was a stud TB himself. In 94, he was injured and WC lost 4 games. His 1st game back they beat undefeated and #1 ranked Franklin-Simpson in regular season finale) *I must admit that I know very little about WC's players previous to the Joe P. Hood years. In the 2000's I know Justin Meredith and Terkell Boards stood out as very good players.

"who is the greatest Head coach in Ky history"
To me, the greatest high school coach of all-time would have to be someone with a great lasting impact on the game. Win and championships are a must, but it is more than that. Due to this statement I must go with Homer Rice. I have read every book he ever wrote, by the way..... And I am in no way a Highlands fan.... Just love to study the game.

5A Championship - Bowling Green 34 Cooper 20
You got any idea what BG's schedule looks like for the next two years? They return most everyone from this team and should have a good shot at going unbeaten and running it to 45 straight wins next year as long as they don't play any out of state powerhouses. That would mean in 2014 they would need to win their first 6 to break Trinity's 50 game state record win streak.
