Yes, you get an offensive guy, but tonights game proves you win with defense and a group that believes in their coach. IMO, Woolf would have been the best choice to get the current athletic group ready to buy into the system in the next three years. Ryle will be an interesting program to follow after this hire.

I agree. I think they're missing out on a few NKY area kids as well. It looks like the new head coach is really focusing on size. Hudson will join a pretty good recruiting class coming to change the future of that program.

We regret to announce that the Jaguar Family has lost one of its biggest fans. Rick Brooks passed away early this morning losing his fight with lung cancer. He leaves behind his wife Stacey and 4 children. We will always remember Rick as the big man on the hill and his never ending "Get Um" spirit that brought joy to many of us over the past several years. He is an inspiration to all showing that you should fight for what you believe in and always keep a positive attitude no matter what life throws at you. Our hearts and prayers go out the the Brooks Family.

He is JUST a kid, nothing spectacular about him athletically. This thread is more of a poke at the family name and behavior of his brother and should have been closed from the start.

Cooper in the double bonus with a lot of time on the clock, but did not take advantage of it. They just kept jacking up 3's and missing. And free throw shooting wasn't much better. Bad night for the Jags, Good night for Conner..

The last thing we need is an inexperienced driving high school kid freaking out when they hit one of the bad spots, and yes they are still out there with temps being so low. The risk of life, bodily harm and damaged vehicles is not worth a day in school or a simple basketball game you make up later. Good decision by BCBOE.

We're getting off track. I was simply saying high school sports are no longer being played "just for fun". The kids are putting just as much effort into their sports as they do in their academics. At least the ones that want it bad enough. As far as the IVY leagues and Military Academies, they don't even offer athletic scholarships, so you would exclude them from the denominator in OG's fact based statement.

Back up your "fact" by telling me how many Div I athletes have strictly an academic scholarship, and not an athletic scholarship, that actually will see playing time. What I am saying that it has now become a combination. It's a bonus to have the grades and the athletic ability, so kids are taking high school sports a lot more seriously than "just for fun".

OG You are definitely living in the Dark Ages if you think high school sports are "just for fun".. While it is considered a privilege, high school sports has become a means combined with education for student athletes to get to the next level playing a sport they love and not leaving college with a ton of debt. Young athletes these days as well as the parents are doing everything possible to gain an advantage, and having an open school district can be one of those advantages. The poor taxpayer needs no pity, but only a free choice. If BC opens it's districts, the private schools in this area would be shaking in their boots in an athletic aspect. As for education, I know several student athletes that were educated in the BC system and have gone on to some elite universities.

Cooper only reaching the line 7 times says a lot about this game.

Phillip has not played any JV ball this year. He's improved tremendously by staying at the Varsity level.

Why on earth would Borchers leave Cooper? He teaches there, he's the AD, and he has a great group of players for the next few years. I don't see that happening.

I don't have an issue with it because it is the coaches decision in the end, but it's not the coaches position to try to discuss Breast Cancer with the players, and then try to interpret the emotions that go with members of survivors. I know a lot of coaches see it as a fashion statement, so deny the colors. It's one month of acknowledgement for the cause that's done Nationwide so why try to stop it?

For every coach that denies a kid to wear pink, the coach, ()he or she should spend a day in a Cancer unit and rethink. Yes, some of the athletes may have no idea or real connection to the cause, but for those that have relatives and friends that suffer through Breast Cancer, they like to take this opportunity to display it through the colors. Football and the Uniforms is just a game, Breast Cancer is about life. I say Pink It Up. JMO

What does playing at the JV level do for your program if you don't practice what the team runs. Yes, they know the plays from getting a rep or two at practice through the week, but it's basically scatter football from what i see. Hellbird, that's what you're not getting about my comments. This is High school football and if a player has the athleticism to be on the field with Varsity, as a coach you need to find a way to work them into the system. If you continue to play 14 to 15 kids a year (as Cooper has) you will never develope a platooning system that can come out the gate right away. If my son as a Senior has a Junior or Soph in front of him, he had better darn well work to beat them out. I never expect a kid to be on the field just because they're a Senior, but I'm not the coach. Unfortunately the Cooper program is divided for that reason. They're are so many kids not playing for that reason, they've seen the righting on the wall. I'm definitely not frustrated as result of my kids playing time, but I am disappointed in the development process of all the boys that aren't in that 15 minute Friday night limelight. I will not speak for the boys on the team, but if you haven't heard it in the stands from others or even your own kid, you're missing out. I am one of the last people to want to ruffle feathers in a program, but I would like to see a program developed and not 14 kids each year. I am with a crowd of many that see it now and have seen in the past years. It really doesn't matter what the parents or players think, because this apparently is how it's going to be. I just hope the kids stick with it, because other options are out there.

That's just it. Some of the boys are making improvements on the scout team, BUT the don't get the chance to learn the Cooper system because all they pretty much do is run the opposing teams defense and offense week after week. I know scout work is needed, but you need to continue to develop at least down to a complete set of 2's and 3's ( if you're developing a "program"). I'm not talking about any specific player breaking into the starting line up, I'm talking about players being able to contribute when a player goes down, needs a blow or simply isn't performing. I've watched every game, and some of these boys are simply getting blown out on plays because they're worn out from going both ways nearly every play. Not mention it puts them at risk for injury playing half gassed. This group simply doesn't have the physical build of last years team to withstand that.

I understand you're tired of hearing about it Hellbird, but I'm also tired of seeing it! I've watched practice and quite a few sophs that are darn good athletes are being wasted by running NOTHING but scout plays at practice, and standing there watching the starting 11 + 4 prep for Friday night. I've watched this team long enough to know that some of those boys are more than capable of stepping up if given the chance. Coming from freshman to the opportunity to be a varsity player as a soph is a shell shock in the beginning, but just because a kid didn't meet the summer ball standards, it doesn't mean they can't work up to it during season. If a kid puts on a uniform, I'm going to give him every opportunity to take someones spot; that's what creates depth, which the Jags don't have because tI guess too many players "aren't showing it in practice". That JV team is not 4-1 for no reason.

And what game did you watch? Cooper only has 2 interior down lineman, that's why a majority of the tackles are made by the lone linebacker and and secondary. When teams double team the interior lineman and lead block to level 2, of course it's going to look like they get blown of the ball.

Why is everyone ignoring the soph Marcus Watson. This young kid has held his own and may be close to the leading tackler on the dine. Actually there are quite a few sophs that have contributed and many more that could if the staff would take the time to work them in (but that's another story).

When the bad calls are going in your favor, why would you complain? :idunno: That crew was bad and Cooper just happened to fall on the wrong side of it Friday night. It was a good football officiated by a pee wee level crew. Point Blank On a positive note, I see how Scott is generating a good squad. They have a very nice facility over there.

I'd say they ran the ball 90%. That's one dimensional in my eyes but it worked against the jags.

I just said they were horrible. No excuse. Scott was very one dimensional and Cooper played too conservative.

That was some horrible officiating. Word on the streets is now the refs are invited to the Homecoming Dance. Lol. Ridiculous job by that crew.
