  1. Ice on the walkway and steps....it was salted, but still slick. I think it was an isolated group. Mostly sour grapes I think....and that BW paid off the refs...lol
  2. Depth Game planning...run vs pass Individual match-ups This years BW team has better depth in the trenches Game planning will be more difficult as BW has an above average passing game BW has players on both sides of the ball with the ability of winning match-ups This should be a very good game. Hope the weather holds up and doesn't become a factor. As has been stated....this is BW last attempt to beat MF in 1A. Many of these Seniors played in the 2012 game as Sophomores...as well as few Juniors (as Freshman). They understand this opportunity and are up for the task. Beechwood 27 Mayfield 26
  3. Great game. Great game plan. Defense gets caught on the edges now and then.. Not sure if they are getting caught in a different stunt or scheme on those plays??? All around solid effort. No one thought Frankfort would roll over and quit....and they didnt. Great effort by those players...fans, not so much. Its a shame that a few of them could not take getting beat with out blaming the refs, field, our fans, the weather....etc. LOL. Oline and Dline dominated in my opinion. Solid play from linebackers. Stringer running with purpose and with Stokes and Studer...it is a great combo. Cant say enough about Combs, McKown, Etler, Overstreet, Bright, Hamilton, Mahoney and Stokes for the job done in the trenches...They will all need to play their BEST game next week.
  4. Like most of Boone County....Geographically it goes by mailing address....which is really close to the tax district boarders for the Fire/EMS districts. Ryle and Cooper are both considered Union areas although a lot of Burlington kids attend Cooper.
  5. Both teams will battle. Frankfort will not lay down. BW will pull away in the end. Could be a "sloppy" field (even with turf) with some talking about rain changing to snow...who knows. BW line will need to dominate the trenches to keep the running game going so that play action passes are effective. I believe this will happen..... The turn over battle could be a deciding factor.
  6. Just a few observations about this years Tigers team... Correct about Ethan....he is always an emotional game player, and has done a great job of keeping some of those emotions in check this year. Growing up....BW needs his emotion to be positive and it has been. Slusher is the MVP of this team....many talented players can claim that title each week but Slusher is consistently making plays on both sides of the ball. Depth for this Tigers team is going to win them these last few games. It will be a play here...or a play there, but RB, DB, and Lineman getting a "blow" now and then will make the difference. Getting Studor back at the right time has provided an added "boost" in attitude.
  7. I think you missed my point....its not about the parents or the coaches...the system IS WHAT IT IS...I was in attendance at this game, it was NOT A GAME...It was a glorified practice and the KIDS at least on the Beechwood side wanted to be there....They know they have to play this game, they know they have to keep getting better. If you have to play it...you may as well embrace it. I think they took a business like approach to it. They did not try to demoralize anyone, after the running clock....it was run right, run left, run up the middle.
  8. I get what your saying....but the defense or offense is playing against players they know, intensity is there...but not the same, they know each others moves....etc. The team knows what is coming... whether its JV playing the opposite team or not....reps are reps....but, meaningful ones come against other teams when the lights are on
  9. I know that the Beechwood kids wanted to be there....why?....so they can get the reps needed to be better prepared for Frankfort and Mayfield....get the reps so that they can be at there best over the next few weeks (coaching)...it wasn't about beating the "cleats" off of Bracken county, it was going about their business and getting better. Working on different player packages, plays, schemes....etc. As I stated earlier, I can get both sides to the argument, all have valid information. The system is what it is, and until it changes....this is what we get, especially in 1A. Beechwood scored on I think 6 of the first 9 plays. Running clock the rest of the way, good reps for the JV and a whole half for the freshman. No injuries that I have heard....other than a concussion for Bracken. Get your reps in, get to the running clock and get out with out getting hurt....move on.
  10. Although injuries happen in all sports....if in the process of beating an 0-10 team-- your starting QB was injured, or any other player for that matter...You would have to ask yourself "why was he even in this game"....and if your asking that question about a playoff game...you have to then look at the system and say it needs an overhaul. I can see both sides, but as a parent, a coach, a player....you have to come to grips with the fact that you work and prepare to win enough games to qualify for the playoff's...and then have a couple of games that do not "seem to fit" from a competition standpoint. It is awfully hard to get better each week and PEAK when you need to down the stretch while playing these type games... This is a huge let down for the players IMO, and a huge consideration when coaching and managing players in the hopes of avoiding a catastrophic injury during a meaningless game.....granted, you have to win this game to move on....but, letting a winless team in the playoffs seems "outa whack" to me. It is a difficult dilemma for sure....Not sure what the right answer is....I just know that I "cringe" when some of these TOTALLY MISS MATCHED games are played and pray for no injuries...for either side.
  11. Yes, I believe so....that was in the championship game against this years Junior class (when they were freshman). Beechwood beat everyone that year...including all the big schools on the schedule
  12. 5 Mayfield 3 Moeller 3 Highlands 1 Danville 1 Bryan station 1 Walton Verona 1 Montgomery Co 1 Ironton 1 Corbin 1 Bath 52
  13. Rivalry...enough said...Beechwood has the better team this year, but you can throw all that out. Who will throw the first punch...who will withstand and respond. Thats what this game comes down to. Ill take Beechwood.
  14. Beechwood JV finished strong. Great job. Kudo's to #44 Soward for strong running and defensive plays, #22 Justice...great instinctive runner and a hitter on defense, #51 Hermes...played D-Line, O-Line at times, Fullback (15 yards on 2 carries this game) making big lead blocks, and linebacker with the injury to #39 Burns. He made a lot of plays, #18 Everett...first year QB, great athlete. #19 Benson, very disruptive on both sides of the ball. All the kids contributed at one time or another....great experience which should prove to be BIG for this group not only the rest of this varsity year, but for next years team. Go Tigers.
  15. 5 Highlands 3 Johnson Central 3 Newport 1 Danville 1 Middlesboro 1 Raceland 1 Fulton county 1 Madisonville 1 Pulaski county 1 Henry Clay TB 52
  16. Yep...forgot Benson....probably others also. When this group of Juniors were Freshman.... Combs, Overstreet, Hermes, Rowe and others just KNOCKED people off the ball...it was fun to watch. Sherron was out for the year with a knee early on. Great group that will need some underclass help as this years group does. Should be business as usual baring any major injury..IMO
  17. Combs and Overstreet return next year. Losing McKown, Etler, Mahorney and the Bright Brothers. Sherron, Hermes and Rowe will return next year and should obtain starting positions. A couple of Sophomores should also be in the mix....Campbell, Talley, Dietz. Should be others.
  18. No offense directed towards the Green Devils of Dayton....but this should be a "smidge" better than the Dayton game. Beechwood wins big. Hope for an injury free game on both sides.
  19. Great recap Eye....I would also give credit to Rowe. Coming back this week after a broken ankle and also Hermes and Benson for doing what they do each week on defense. Great job
  20. Ha Ha....Not taking the bait...They would not play a JV game the same day as a Varsity game
  21. I forgot they had a game cancelled vs. Simon Kenton becuase of the "Skyline" opening varsity game which was on a Saturday night.....vs Mt Healthy
