  1. You are probably correct....however, Beechwood does not typically allow a kid to dress at all three levels during the same week. Beechwood is not the only school that does not "worry" too much about not having a kicker for extra points on JV...they are able to work on 2 point plays. Anyone can "squib kick" the ball off the tee during kick offs. It not a big deal. They gave the varsity kicker some extra reps during this JV game. Not sure who kicked for this group of seniors when they were freshman....

  3. The varsity kicker #10 kicked for the JV this weekend....not the Freshman kicker #8. This was the first time the varsity kicker who is a junior kicked for the JV this year. He is only a kicker, not a position player. The freshman kicker #8 obviously kicks for the freshman, has kicked once for the JV and has dressed and kicked during varsity games.....just not all three levels in the same weekend. Not sure if the freshman kicker plays another position...dont think so. Both are very good.
  4. The Freshman kicker did kick one game for JV...he does well and will be counted on in the years to come.
  5. The freshman kicker has dressed for some varsity games....those same weeks he does not dress for JV....as to not dress for all 3 levels during a given week. JV has gone with out a kicker most of the time...they use "anyone" to kick off and go for two after touchdowns. Thats why the varsity kicker (a junior) was down on JV. Only speaking about the last few years...No one at Beechwood dressed and played at all three levels during the same week. You are correct...those kids are competing and they want to win.
  6. The kicker in this game for Beechwood was Mario German...#10 I think. He is a Junior and the Varsity kicker. The freshman kicker dressed for the varsity game and Beechwood does not let players dress for Freshman, JV, and varsity. At least that was what I was told. I was also told by a Scott parent that many of the kids dressed for Scott were Freshman...and they DO dress at all levels and some do play at all three levels...Seems kinda odd to me that a 5a school would need to put that much on a kid...because of the increased numbers at a larger school vs. the lighter numbers at a 1a school, I would have thought those roles would be reversed.... As far as the game went, Beechwood was dramatically out sized on the line (both sides) but held up pretty good. Beechwood played without #22 Justice and still did a pretty good job. Everett still learning the QB position and it showed, however he is a tough runner with instincts and speed. #44 Soward played hard and is beginning to run with a "chip" on his shoulder, not afraid of contact. #51 Hermes played tough on defense as well as spot duty on offense at both tackle and fullback. He is getting more reps on varsity. Good game for the Tigers...the experience will serve them well in the end even though they lost a tough one.
  7. The ability to Platoon is the key....It is much easier to consider platooning if you have 90 kids to choose from....vs. a pool of 30-40 kids. Im thinking that your odds of being able to field 22 kids...give or take a few, is much better. The other aspect which has been discussed is coaching...you have to be able to create the environment, have the ability to teach, and get the "buy-in" from the kids. Having 90 kids to choose from doesn't do you any good if they cannot be "coached-up" or are not athletes to begin with....In my opinion, thats what separates programs, whether it is a 6a program or a 1a program.....there are good programs at all levels. Coaching, environment, buy-in, and athletes.
  8. Last years game was a tough one...I remember saying that I would not want to have faced them on turf.....well, we get them on turf. I go with Beechwood in a close one. Home team wins.
  9. I do not think team photo's will tell the story....the way seeing opposing O line and D lines lined up over the ball does..BIG doesn't always mean BAD (meaning..fast, in shape, athletic, strong...etc) however for the 5 and 6a schools around NKY, it has tremendously improved over the years. The programs have gotten better. The game has changed and with 2 platooning in the schools with large numbers...Large fresh bodies are on the field for most of the game.....which makes life hard on a 1 or 2a program like Beechwood or NCC.
  10. Like I said...I didn't realize that a lot of these kids were freshman at the time...they competed well, especially for not playing together. It just seemed like some of the NCC fans acted as if they expected a different outcome from the begining.....which is why I expected a better showing.

  12. Platooning is the key in my opinion. 1A schools do not have the numbers to be able to put the quality player on the field that they need in order to compete with some of the more talented, DEEPER rosters of the BETTER 4,5, and 6A schools. Beechwood can probably rotate some other kids in with out a big drop off....but probably only 3 or 4 positions. Fresh bodies are able to compete at a higher level. Not sure if Beechwood does this as well as they could....especially the last 2 years. In speaking about a prior post.....The O-line and D lines that Beechwood faced with Dixie and Mt Healthy were BIGGER and DEEPER than Beechwood. Dixie especially wore Beechwood out with depth at those "trench" positions. I hope they continue to schedule the tough non conference opponents, I just hope they can develop better depth in the trenches. Just my opinion.
  13. Seeing the game in person, I expected a bit more from NCC....although at the time not realizing that alot of those kids were freshman. Beechwood dressed 16 kids I believe...3 of them are juniors, maybe 4. NCC dressed 30+ with several of them having good size. For Beechwood...Justice, Everett, and Soward did the work offensively with pretty good line play. On Defense Sherron (spelling?), Hermes dominated in the trenches, both of which are Juniors. NCC moved the ball at times and made stops on defense on occasion. Special teams hurt NCC. Just my opinion.

  15. thanks for the update...heard that Justice #22 played hard, as well as #51 Hermes on defense. #44 Soward? having potential
  16. Anyone stand out for Beechwood? Depth for varsity?

  18. I think this will be a great game. It will be a "right out of the shoot" test for Beechwood to see how they measure up against a strong unknown opponent. Win or lose, they will know what they have to do as players and coach's to get back to what they want to be...and that is State Champions. They have the "horses" and the experience this year with the Seniors and Juniors to get it done. If they can improve the work in the "trenches" and keep the Big Bodies fresh on both sides of the ball, they should have a good shot at winning this game and many more. Not many teams are going to "out athlete" this Beechwood team. Just my Opinion......

  20. Mt. Healthy will be a great test for these Tigers. I believe Beechwood has the ability and the "want to" to get the job done this year. Hopefully, with this group of Seniors and the Juniors behind them the depth should be there. Keep the big bodies fresh on both sides of the ball and avoid the injury bug and this can be a great year. Just my opinion...
