  1. Beechwood JV games have been hit and miss....I think they have played 5 games with wins against NCC, Conner. Losses to Scott and Dixie. Another Conner game was cancelled because of the field conditions, and the Cov Cath game was cancelled at halftime because of weather. I think they play Cooper this Saturday and Walton Verona next weekend and that will probably be it for JV. Beechwood plays mostly Sophomores, and occasional Freshman kicker and usually 2 or 3 Juniors. They are developing a first year QB who is a Sophomore with lots of athletic ability and have a better than average running attack when all are healthy. Defense plays tough against the run. Most of the Juniors get varsity reps as well as a few of the sophomores. They usually dress 17-19 kids for JV
  2. BW JV informed of a JV game against Walton Verona on Saturday the 25th...at Beechwood 10am
  3. I think kids are going to BW (or where ever else) from Boone County because....they can. I think it is a combination of many things...not just the academic, or athletic programs. As far as the "rough and tumble" factions that are reported at many larger county schools....Im sure BW has the same...probably easier to detect or stay away from in a smaller format. I think it is a choice. Some of kids mentioned do not play football any longer, some are not "studs". Many family factors go into these decisions....tuition costs, do the parents live apart?, student needs, transportation, and ultimately what is best for all....Im sure because BW traditionally fields quality sports...that plays into it, but so does the academic excellence demonstrated over the long haul. Living in Boone county the last 12 years myself...I hear the rumblings each year from a few disgruntled parents or kids about life (schooling and athletics) at all the Boone county schools...not just Conner. Conner has rebounded nice this year from a rough beginning.
  4. It doesnt hurt that BW is generally known to be a very good academic school system.
  5. I do not think anyone is knocking Conner for academics. I believe some kids thrive better in a smaller setting with out the "hustle and bustle" of a large County school system. Smaller numbers in classes, more individualized learning (if needed). Sometimes a kid can be "Lost" in the bigger systems. Less distractions. Depends on the Kid and family in my opinion....

  7. You are correct, I forgot to mention him....good kid. As they all are
  8. Harms, Soward, Hermes to name a few. Harms no longer plays football. Im sure there are others. I have been told that the smaller size in numbers as well as the academic atmosphere is a selling point to some. Having a quality sports program is secondary. If you have the ability to pay tuition...so be it. Do whats best for the kid and family. Just my opinion.
  9. I heard they picked up Cooper for JV....although not certian..???
  10. Braden Hermes came to Beechwood as a Freshman. From what I am told he lives in Rabbit Hash and was originally slated to attend Conner, but his street was moved to the Cooper district. I know he was a solid contributer to the 7th and 8th grade undefeated teams in the BCPWFL...which were all Conner kids. His parents petitioned the School board during his 7th grade year about the possibility of going to Conner and were denied.
  11. Terrible conditions to play in even on turf....which does not drain well, add in wind and the cold rain. Beechwood left 3 TD's on the field in the first half...maybe into the 3rd because of turnovers. It was good to get the JV some reps because their game was ultimately cancelled at Conner for today. I dont think you will see Studer again until the New Cath game....maybe playoffs. I believe BW wanted the running clock early, but when they didnt get it, changed plans for the major subs and JV to get some valuable reps...in the bad weather. JMO

  13. The Justin Overstreet call (#50) was wrong in my opinion. Seeing it live, then again at home on replay--the ref that threw the flag had to move quickly because the Cov Cath player almost hit his leg. You can hear the whistle blow while the block took place, the large blue object had not finished hitting the ground when the whistle blew. Lineman are taught to finish the block to the whistle...thats what happened in my opinion. The refs got a lot wrong on both sides....tough to be perfect, but it usually evens out.

  15. as was stated in previous posts.....not in the last 4 years, 2009 was 5 years. This discussion came about in a couple of threads because the JV has gone with out a kicker at times. The question was "why"?? They have a varsity kicker and a freshman kicker. At times they both dress for varsity games. They have each kicked for the JV this year. When the freshman kicks in a varsity game, he has not kicked for the JV......meaning he kicked in the freshman game and the varsity game...and when both kickers kick in the varsity game....no one kicks for JV. Last week the varsity kicker did not dress for the varsity game. Seems to me that they are limited to only playing at 2 levels during the same week....which has been consistant for the last few years....
  16. Yes, I did hear about those 2 players...cannot find anything to say they played any JV games that year. The JV only had 3 or 4 games scheduled some years, same with freshman. I will continue to believe that given the talent seen in these current Senior and Junior classes...that none of them played at all 3 levels in the same week. I believe that this current Senior class had only 1 freshman loss which was to Moeller....and the current Junior class was not close to being defeated as freshman. 6 or 7 of the current Juniors had some varsity snaps during the playoffs their freshman year but never dressed or played JV... My point is that if none of these kids played all 3 levels.....then why would you think a kicker would? Not saying that they would not benefit from it...Im saying that it must be a "rule" with in Beechwood. Many other teams do dress kids and play them at all 3 levels....I just have not seen that out of Beechwood the last several years since Ive been a follower.
  17. Amen VOR. Ive tried to answer this re occuring question several times.
  18. Was told this by a former 4 year player. Maybe it is somewhat of a new rule but it hasnt happened in the last 4 years.
  19. Whatever the rule, not sure about it.....but, Beechwood does not let a player (position or kicker) dress at all 3 levels during the same week of games....not sure if it is an internal program rule...or something larger than that. The issue this week was that the Junior kicker...whom is the varsity kicker did not dress for the varsity game...so the freshman kicker kicked....as he did for the freshman....which leaves the JV to "go for 2". No big deal really. The freshman kicker is more than capable of kicking...he is really good.
  20. Tigers JV playing much better together each week. Defense playing great with Soward, Benson, Hermes and Sherron contolling the running game and getting pressure on the QB. Another week with out a kicker and no Justice at RB. Soward and Everett carried the load...even playing Hermes at a fullback position (ala McKown on Varsity). He had 1 carry for 7 yards and a first down, but made some good blocks while in the game. These Sophomores and the few juniors are getting much needed reps...go Tigers.
  21. Although Beechwood is developing a 1st year QB, they seem to move the ball alright and defense is pretty tough. They only dress 16-19 players a week for JV, all of which are Sophomores with a few Juniors...and possibly a freshman kicker. I think they play twice,,, with this week being the 1st game...and a couple weeks later at Conner.
  22. I think they are equally important...again it would be program dependent in many cases. Freshman football for most programs is about bringing a bunch of kids together that may or may not have played together to get some chemistry and learn a system....experience. It is a big leap from middle school to the High School surroundings in many cases. Expectations and accountability should be instilled if not already done. JV is a bit unsettled...depending on the program and numbers...some schools can truly use the JV as a tool for underclassmen to perform at different positions, develop schemes...etc. It also can be a place that kids with "no shot" at seeing varsity time go to get snaps..which is unfortunate. As a Pee-wee coach, I have watched a lot of JV games over the years following kids that I have coached and certain programs do a good job at developing sophomores and juniors that may get a "few" snaps on Friday nights. Then there are programs who use the JV as a necessary evil that they have to participate in and do not put much into it from the looks. All in all, my opinion is that they are equally important from the standpoint of the "overall growth" that happens both mentally and physically from an 8th grade athlete to a Junior or Senior in high school. The freshman year is pivotal in teaching these kids adult concepts and responsibility not only on the football field, but in life. The JV can be viewed as a "punishment", or "your not good enough to play varsity"...type of thing....so it is equally important for teaching the "team concept" and re-iterate the accountability and responsibility thing....Winning is the overall goal and the best players are going to be on the field most of the time....practice time, dedication, ability, mentality of the kid play a big role in how he develops...and certain programs do a good job with the rollor-coaster of emotions that can arise from these kids as they grow....Just my opinion.
