  1. As far as the Fieger comparison goes to the Highlands QBs of the past....Style of offense is another factor...Lorenzen was a 2 year starter. Not sure about the other 2 Highlands QBs. I do not think they were 4 year starters either. They threw the ball much more than Beechwood does. Whatever the case, Kyle deserves the credit for his career...He has done a great job...records or not, he has proved his worth to the Beechwood program. As Far as the game went....Hats of to the Tigers. They did what they needed to do. They put it away early, skill kids were tough, Line on both sides was dominate which included a scope and score on defense.
  2. The Tiger line needed this game aginst a competent opponent to begin the ramp up in competition as the playoffs move forward. New Cath provided that. Overstreet is the "bell cow" of this group. Hermes at the other tackle can also move people off the ball offensively and absorbs double teams virtually every play on defense. Rowe Sherron Benson and Lang are also huge contributors as are Juniors Campbell and Everett at times. Playing both ways on the line is huge. Beechwood will go as far as the line takes them. Good luck to the Breds. Go Tigers
  3. Agreed that this Beechwood team feeds off one another. This group of seniors are close and play for each other. The line is thin and has had some dings along the way with injury...Rowe missed a couple games with a knee, Hermes hasnt missed a start after a separated shoulder in the Cov Cath game. They will ramp up and find there grove now. The skill kids will score the points but the line will get them there.
  4. As was stated. Beechwood has not played a meaningful snap since the CCH loss. I believe Beechwood has enough weapons to win the game and think it will be close. The Breds may be the team to punch them in the gut to wake them up early. The beechwood line needs to come ready for a war. Beechwood by a score.
  5. Beechwood playing hard. Still some defensive lapses...mostly with slopy tackeling. They truely swarm to the ball which is needed. Overstreets strip and score a good example...first few stand them up and rhe next guy strips rhe ball. D line played well. Linebacker play seems to be improving. When they blitz good things generally happen. Offense did its thing and did it well. On to the next game....this was senior night. Good to see this group of kids still together from the undefeated freshman team. Only minus a couple. Great bunch of kids
  6. Health is the #1 concern. Lots of "dings and dents" so far. Getting healthy and staying healthy is a must. Back up players getting valuable minutes. Hopefully that can continue...Come playoff time, "all hands" will be needed.
  7. Stay healthy, stay focused, and move on. Back up players get plenty of snaps and the experience needed to contribute when needed.
  8. Miserable conditions. Low fan turnout. Really a glorified scrimmage for the Tigers. JV players playing the majority of the game being sprinked in from the 1st qtr. Hopefully Newport can regain some momentem they seemed to have the last couple years. They seemed to have some good athletes. BW remains healthy and moves on to Bellevue.
  9. Hopefully this stretch of games provides some time to work on some execution issues on offense and scheme on defense. Some fine tuning and expirimentation. Bottom line is being injury free and getting those who are dinged...healthy.
  10. Great come back game for BW. They played hard all night. Offense moved the ball up and down the field and only stopped themselves on a couple drives. Line blocked well. The counter play they have run all year pulling off side tackle sets the tone. Defense played tough. Persuit to the ball is key for the Tigers. Glad to see Mckinney and Hermes on the field after injuries last week. Rowe now starting at guard on offense back from his injury and spelling Overstreet and Hermes on Dline. Defensive adjustments during game is a big key moving forward for this group. Well done. On to the next game.
  11. Yes the BW line plays both ways. They have met the challenge aginst platooning teams before CCH. They have gotten a little dinged. 56 hurt a knee vs Lloyd and made it back for the CCH game. 51 separated a shoulder in first half vs CCH and was pulled late in 3rd quarter. Those kids are gamers. The CCH team came ready to play. BW did not. Lesson learned. On to next week. Work on getting healthy
  12. Hats off to CCH. They played well. Beechwood did not. CCH was faster to the ball, hit harder, and played smarter. Although CCH has the depth on the line that Beechwood doesnt, it is no excuse...BW line was out played physically. BW faces that challenge everytime they play up in class and typically hold thier own. Tonight they didnt. It was a team loss which will make them better for the long run. I picked the Tigers in a close one...but feared a let down looming. Great game by the Colonels. You were the best team tonight. Good luck the rest of the way.
  13. As Beech bum stated Oline....those are the same Dline with Overstreet and Hermes at tackles with Sherron, Benson at ends with Rowe (when healthly), Campbell and Lang rotating in on different sets. Everett also plays end.
  14. Have you seen any of the 1st 3 games? As it was....and still is, a talking point about how this group would hold up...they have done well. Even with an injury early in the first game to the center. He is still not back. They are "thin" with depth for sure, and they were inexperienced before the season began...with only 1 returning starter...but they have "shown up" 3 straight weeks and preformed well...against larger opponents.
  15. As has been stated...throw the records out. This will be won by whomever wants it more. Beechwood will be home for the first time. A let down can loom heavy here. 3 road battles have them unbeaten. Cov Cath needs to right the ship....should be a good game. Ill take the Tigers 28-17
  16. Very proud of the Tigers tonight. Great atmosphere to play a high school football game. I will say this about Ironton....I did not think those HUGE lineman would be able to maintain the effort it takes to play hard the whole game...THEY DID. The Ironton line was good. The Beechwood line held there own with Overstreet taking over in the 4th Quarter. Hats off to both teams. Lots of momentum swings. Unfortunately, the refs had some say in the momentum shifts. Beechwoods linebackers made more plays tonight. Soward played well. Sherron, Campbell made plays. Hermes had 600lbs worth of double teams most of the night and still made some plays. Slusher as always was the best player on the field. McKinney played a huge game defending the pass against a kid literally twice his height. Offensively, Beechwood was determined and for the most part executed well on the ground and through the air. A great team effort. Well done. They needed a game like this one....and they got it.
  17. That make sense. Nice place to watch a game. Good luck to the Jumpers
  18. What an awesome facility. Was kind of puzzled at the amount of empty seats on the Home side of the field...although the stands were large. Hospitality was great. As far as the game goes....that was a methodical Beechwood pounding. The Jumpers have some good talent but could not answer the "desire" Beechwood played with. One thing I am noticing about this Tiger defense is that they will be as sucsessful as the D-line is. Typically the interior line eat up the blocks so that frees up the linebackers to make plays...when. Beechwood blitzes a linebacker- it frees up Overstreet or Hermes to make the play. Great play by these two. They played great together as freshman and on JV. Glad they get a chance as seniors. Great game overall by the Tigers.
