Beechwood 62 Eminence 0

Featured Replies

This one went as expected. Beechwood led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter and 48-0 at halftime. The starters did not play in the second half. JV played most of the second half and the freshman team finished up. The usual stars did their thing. Fieger was on the money throwing the ball including one beautiful 44 yard pass to Slusher. Stringer had well over 100 yards rushing. Slusher had 2 TD receptions including one that left nearly a half dozen Eminence players laying on the ground in his wake. Other TD's were scored by Braden Hermes on a 15 yard fumble recovery and run, freshman Logan Castleman 27 yard reception/run, Trevor Soward 29 yard reception/run, Aiden Justice 27 yard run, Eddie Erdman 10 yard run and Harrison Heist 7 yard run. Daniel Mescher kicked all the extra points except the last one which was kicked by freshman Dillon Doverspike.

How about a big shout out to BW's Kyle Fieger who broke the career TD pass mark for NKY last night. The record was previously held by Gino Guidugli of Highlands. Kyle needed one TD pass last night to break the record and secured it with 4. He is also knocking on the door of the all time yardage record in NKY and is clustered in a group consisting of Guidugli, Jared Lorenzen and Patrick Towles. Congrats Kyle.

I read that article yesterday, good for Kyle. Coach pointed out what he has done all while playing in on offense that runs it more than it throws it. Also amazes me when you consider they lose probably 2/3 games per year on the in district and first round of playoffs when he doesn't ever play in the second half. Bravo Kyle.

Have been around this game for 50+ years, and Fiegler is probably as accurate as I have seen in high school ball. Must be in the best shape of any athlete playing the game as Hergott requires him to run to the sideline to get the next play, each and every time. Must add a mile or two to every game. Never understood this archaic communication system between an OC and his QB. Anybody else have thoughts? IMO can be problematic in later playoffs when he will need to play more than the first half.

Yeah ... I have some thoughts ....

*It hasn't hurt any other Beechwood quarterback in the past 13 years that the OC has coached.

*One or Two miles? Nah ... I don't think so. Half the time .. the ball ends up on the hash nearest to the Beechwood sideline. 2 to 3 steps of a jog isn't going to hurt anyone. From there ... worst case .. hash to hash ... and that isn't all that far.

*Unless you are there for every play to hear the dialogue between the OC and QB .. then .. then you are assuming facts not in evidence.

*You mention Fieger only getting to play for a half in many games. Did it ever occur to you that the jog back and forth is something that BENEFITS the QB's conditioning? When a ton of games are basically over at halftime ... that jog back and forth may not help his conditioning a ton ... but it does help ... and his results certainly suggest that the jog back and forth hasn't hurt him in the slightest.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY .... you start out your post congratulating Kyle on breaking the NKY TD pass record and being close to the NKY yardage record. Fieger and the OC have obviously made this "archaic communication system" work for the better part of 3 and a half years ... while breaking records doing it.

From here ... and based on your comments ... it sure looks like this "archaic communication system" is working like an absolute charm.

Glad to see my ole buddy on here. Good Luck Beechwood

Ouch. Nerve struck.

Ouch. Nerve struck.

Or ... all concerns addressed with actual true, intelligent first hand insight.

The only thing that struck a nerve ... was your "Ouch. Nerve Struck" comment.

Scroll up ... and you will see where the OP made this statement: "Anybody else have thoughts?"

Answering that question is not striking a nerve ... it is ANSWERING the question posed by the OP. Nothing less ... nothing more.

Ok, I am confused. Who is OP? And the post congratulating Kyle was by me, not Oldercoach. Why is Oldercoach all of a sudden getting his rear end handed to him?

Wow. You sipping a few? Relax killer, it was sarcasm.

OP = Original Poster.

Who is getting their rear handed to them? Oldercoach asked for thoughts about the QB running to the sideline to get the play from the Offensive Coordinator.

I answered the question ... and apparently ... that means that ... 1. It struck a nerve with me (which is didn't) or ... 2. That Oldercoach was getting his rear handled to him/her.

I am sorry ... I guess I struggle with posters who, in one breath, are talking up the QB and the records/honors that he has either earned already--or could earn in the near future ... then at the same time speak to the "archaic communication system" that obviously hasn't stopped the QB from racking up huge numbers and records. I will even go a little further ... that "archaic communication system" has probably helped the QB in question -- progress with his performance over the past 4 years.

About 8 seconds of thought should have answered any question/questions about why it is done and the benefits (and how they outweigh the negatives).

In conclusion ... don't confuse my long winded blowhard writing style with anger or sarcasm!

Wow. You sipping a few? Relax killer, it was sarcasm.

Sipping a few? Seriously ... whether that is a joke or not ... it sucks and this time it most certainly strikes a nerve.

I agree with Oldercoach...The running over to the OC every play is totally stupid and unnecessary. Makes zero sense!

My oldest daughter's high school up in Michigan had their QB run to the sideline for the plays. Did not affect them one bit. The last 2 years they won the Division 1 (6A in KY) state title.
