Newport has problems. They allow kids to throw tantrums, throw their helmets and act up on the sidelines. I could care less about how bad they played, they made the coaches look very bad. IMO they need a new culture at Newport. I would fire every coach and bring in a new staff that would not put up with that crap. I saw coaches trying to coddle players and talk them down from tantrums. I saw players take their helmets off and talk to people in the stands! They are in bad shape..... and they are bad at football. Props to the Newport Cheerleaders. There were a large number of girls, they were good and enthusiastic... a pleasure to sit in front of.

How does the Newport Administration allow all of that to go on?

This was about as ugly as it can get for a football team. With 2:49 to go in the first quarter, Beechwood had a running clock on Newport with a 42-0 lead. That is not a typo - 2:49 in the first quarter. Not a lot to say other than total domination. Here are the scoring plays:

Yes, it was 49-0 at the end of the first quarter. Newport had multiple turnovers. Jacob Cottingham and Logan Castleman both recovered fumbles in the quarter. The rest of the game Beechwood's backups played versus Newport's varsity till subbed their backups on the last series of the game. Newport has low numbers. Here are the rest of the scoring plays.

Could you consider that the Newport coaches are doing all they can do to teach/coach the sport of football, respect academic rules, and deal with behavioral issues, just to field a team? Give the coaches n the players a break!

If you're not around and don't know the situations, keep your opinions to yourself. Because I can promise you these coaches are doing everything they can with this team. Good grief. With simply miserable weather glad I stayed home tonight. The great news is BW gets Bellevue next week, who lost to this same Newport team. Yikes

So Brett Slusher scored 3 TDs within 29 seconds? That must be a record of some kind. That is insane.

It was miserable, but I've been to worse. Was good to see the Newport kids at least score against BW. Hope that buoyed them up. It's been a tough season for them so far.
