Miserable conditions. Low fan turnout. Really a glorified scrimmage for the Tigers. JV players playing the majority of the game being sprinked in from the 1st qtr.

Hopefully Newport can regain some momentem they seemed to have the last couple years. They seemed to have some good athletes.

BW remains healthy and moves on to Bellevue.

Newport has problems. They allow kids to throw tantrums, throw their helmets and act up on the sidelines. I could care less about how bad they played, they made the coaches look very bad. IMO they need a new culture at Newport. I would fire every coach and bring in a new staff that would not put up with that crap. I saw coaches trying to coddle players and talk them down from tantrums. I saw players take their helmets off and talk to people in the stands! They are in bad shape..... and they are bad at football. Props to the Newport Cheerleaders. There were a large number of girls, they were good and enthusiastic... a pleasure to sit in front of.

I always admired the job Mike Murphy did at Newport. He faced a lot of similar issues that are there today. Newport did have a run of really nice athletes during his tenure.

They have had 0 chance to turn this around. The staff didn't get started until a month before the season started. They have numbers in the 20's. Tell me a team that could go through this and be successful?

Have you ever dealt with inner city kids? I would take a pretty solid guess and say no. There are much bigger issues than what can be done Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm. Again, if you have no hand in it, then leave those kids alone. It's not the easiest, silver spooned place as other places are.

Come on now the whole inner city kids is played out! These kids are in high school and there is no excuse for behavior like that.

I was an inner city kid. Went to Holmes, played football for a strong coach, learned life lessons and moved on. Quit giving these kids excuses to hold on to. You acted up, our coach would ask you to take your jersey off and head to the locker room or the bus. The game is not about 1 boy or 2. A strong coach would tell those kids that anytime you pump your chest, take your helmet off, make a scene, or talk back to any adult... you make the game about you.... and the game was never about you. So you ask me to have sympathy for the kids and coaches? I don't. There are many coaches out there willing to coach the right way... not only teaching these kids the fundementals but the life lessons they desperately need. Find them. Lesson 1 from my old coach.... in a very southern draw "if it was easy, everybody would do it."

The HC got there late, not the entire staff. Lets not act like every coach on the staff is a new face. Some of these guys have been there awhile.

Glad to see this thread isn't getting off topic and is sticking to the game.

Don't lose tractor the respect Coach Rash demonstrated for the game and Newport's program for the way he coached after the 1st quarter. This game could have ended with whatever score he wanted. Instead he played his young, younger, and very young kids from 2nd quarter on. In personal conversations I have had with him, I believe this man is the kind of coach every father would like his son to play for. I know he has even pleaded with officials to call fictitious penalties and not allow TDs in the second half of other run-away games.

 

Here's hoping Newport can corral their feral Wildcats and get back on tract.
