From what I was told the players were more worried about the game at hand, heard coach Rash asked them if they wanted to participate and to a man they said its football season. Good for them.

A very impressive game by the Beechwood Tigers. Many reading this may doubt me because of the score but Paris has a pretty good football team. They have very quick backs. Their quarterback throws a good ball. They are well coached. This score does not represent how good they are. Beechwood is playing excellent football and this score represents how good they are playing.

 

The Tigers took the opening kickoff and methodically drove downfield for a score. Along the way they overcame a holding penalty. Ethan Stringer scored on a 1 yard run 3 1/2 minutes into the game. Mario German added the extra point and it was 7-0 Tigers. Paris picked up a couple first downs and then went for it on 4th down from the Beechwood 30. Beechwood's Jeremy Burns grabbed a fumble out of mid air on the 4th down play and ran it back to the 47. The Tigers again used their running game and Stringer scored on a 15 yard run with 1:48 to go in the first quarter, BW 14-0.

 

Early in the second quarter, Paris was quickly forced to punt on their next possession. Brett Slusher blocked the punt and the Tigers started their possession just 40 yards away from another score. The Paris defense was able to force the Tigers to settle for a 26 yard field goal by German on this drive. With 8:08 to go in the half it was 17-0 Tigers. Paris then picked up a big run. The Tigers speed prevented it from being a TD run. A penalty moved the ball inside the 10 but Beechwood's defense made a goal line stand to stop Paris from scoring. The Tigers then went on a 98 yard scoring drive, mixing runs with passes. Stringer scored from 4 yards out with 36 seconds left to make the halftime score 24-0.

 

Paris received the second half kickoff and knew they had to make something happen. They went for it on 4th and 1 from their own 34 and the Tigers made the stop. Beechwood capitalized on the short field with Jonathon Stokes scoring this time from 1 yard out, BW 31-0 just 2 1/2 minutes into the second half. Paris went 3 and out. Stringer scored on the first play for the Tigers showing his blazing speed with a 78 yard run. There was a celebration penalty called forcing German to try the extra point from 35 yards and it was no good, wide left. Tigers led 37-0 with 6:44 left in the third quarter and the running clock began.

 

Stokes scored on a powerful 16 yard TD run opening the 4th quarter, dragging multiple defenders into the end zone over the final 5 yards of the run. At the 6:34 mark sophomore QB Dalton Everett scored on a 3 yard run with freshman kicker Daniel Mescher adding the extra point. That gave us the final score of 51-0.

 

Beechwood outgained Paris 407 yards to 102.

 

James Clark and Aaron Williams were quick, shifty, tough to tackle backs for Paris. Wane Dumphord was all over the field making tackles for the Greyhounds.

 

For Beechwood, Stringer had 13 carries for 179 yards and 4 TD's. Stokes added nearly 100 yards rushing and receiving and 2 TD's. Brett Slusher was again very impressive with the blocked punt, numerous tackles on defense and 3 receptions for 50 yards, with all 3 of those being clutch first down making receptions. Slusher makes plays in every game that you just have to say wow about. QB Kyle Fieger was 7-10 passing for 122 yards. The Tigers are hitting on all cylinders.

That's good to hear that Rash offered them the chance. Thanks for putting that info out--most didn't think that was the case.

Roll on Tigers. Next week is a big one. A chance to get revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year.

 

Slusher is one heck of a football player. Defense is where he really makes amazing plays. One play tonight he make a great read, charged into the lead blocker going around end on a jet sweep, knocked the blocker back on his heels forcing the runner to cut inside the blocker, then he dove back off the blocker he had just hit full speed and made the tackle. You had to see it to appreciate how good a play it was. He makes multiple plays like that every game on defense.

 

Stokes made a couple great plays. On defense he used a super quick jump step to blow past a blocker from his DE position and get a sack before the QB could even get his arm cocked to throw the pass. Then on the 15 yard TD run he make a couple nice cuts then powered his way into the end zone with multiple tacklers unable to stop him.

 

Stringer gets better every week running the ball. He is running with power and if he gets an opening he is gone.

 

Next week should be a fun one to see versus a very tough opponent in Frankfort.

Totally agree. Refs were being overly sensitive.

Tigers are firing on ALL cylinders. Slusher and Stringer are looking awesome. Nice to see Studer back as well.

I was puzzled by that call also. I didn't see anything unusual. If they called it because all the Beechwood players were excited and ran to the end zone to congratulate Stringer, then the referees made a mistake. Beechwood does that on every TD. I enjoy watching to see which lineman is the first one there to congratulate the player who scored, especially on the long runs like that one.

I once saw Mike Mitchell get a celebration penalty for pointing at an oncoming defender right before he crossed the goal line on a long run. Is it possible the kid did something during the run?
