They are teetering between D1 and D2 in terms of enrollment. I read they were only 2 students away from D1 at last count. I wish they were in D1 this year to see how they would have done. Nordonia wishes that too... On Yappi, one of the Nordonia guys was so shocked and distressed that he started a thread about drug testing HS athletes - implying that Lasalle must be taking roids to be so good. The Nordonia fans are in complete shock. THey had been pounding inferior teams all year and thought they would easily beat Lasalle - and then got crushed - having a hard time dealing with it.

I assume the state finals are at a neutral field. Do you know who CC plays in the finals yet??

I watched most of the game. They looked like men against boys against a Nordonia team that was 14-0 and had scored over 50 in all of its previous playoff games. The Larkin kid at RB was VERY impressive. The Lasalle skilled guys are almost all juniors too. They will be something else next year.

I won't argue that the call was technically correct then. I will say that you could call that penalty on 75% (or more) of touchdowns scored then based on what happened on that sideline. No way that is called normally unless there is "more to the story". The coach has a reputation and my guess the ref wanted to stick it to him. And messing up the application of the penalty is as bad as it gets in that situation.

If that is the case, you could probably call the sideline infraction on 75% of TD's scored by all teams...

I admit I don't know the exact rule. Does the rule say a team's players and coaches have to just be off the field or off it by some distance, say a yard or two? Any officials out there know? If it just says you have to be off the field of play, look at the tape and go to the 1:45 time or so. Tell me where a player or coach violated the rule (except the guy wearing all black) who was behind the official - no way the official saw him. I sure hope nothing like this happens Friday or Saturday in BG...this was REALLY BAD...should not have been called and they obviously screwed up the administering of it...

I've looked at the tape about 7 times now. This is ALL on the official IMO. He throws the flag at the 36 yard line, right after going by a coach (not sure if he is the head coach) at about the 40. The coach was NOT on the field, just outside it. There is another coach or member of the staff (wearing all black that IS on the field but he is behind the ref and there is no way the ref can see him and he is not interfering with anything. There has to be something to do with the history of this coach. Total injustice for two reasons...(1) that it was called at all and (2) that it was misapplied. The refs should be suspended or fired for this. This one is really bad...

In looking at the play, it appears that the kids were ok - not running on the field. It looks like the coach was right on sideline and when the side judge ran by him they barely bumped each other. It did not even slow down the side judge - they barely nudged each other. It looks like incredibly poor judgment of an official to throw the flag on (1) a play of that magnitude and (2) for such a minor infraction - the coach was not 3 yards on the field or more - barely on it. In listening to the story, it appears the coach has a history of issues and I wonder if his history played a role in the whole thing. He even volunteered to not coach at the school any longer if they would let the game be replayed from that point on. This was not about the kids being out of control - this is on the coach...and the refs. What a shock - the adults screwing up things for the kids...

FYI, I sent an email to Coach Chris Merritt yesterday wishing him and his team luck this week and telling him I am a HHS fan and enjoyed watching him and his team when they played HHS. He sent me an email back within an hour thanking me and saying his grass was 2 ft high right now because he has been so busy getting ready - doesn't have time to cut it and in his words, he "couldn't care less". I am very impressed with Coach Merritt!

Hoge is going to BYU, not Air Force. He has had a great year and I said early on he is the most valuable player in the state, meaning that HHS would not be where they are without him. I have not seen some of the others being mentioned play so I cannot say whether he should be Mr. Football. You could not go wrong with him...I will say that.

The answer is no. First of all, the "kicker" did not make the decision to run up the score. Cheap shotting him is totally unacceptable. Second, up three scores with 3 minutes to go is a comfortable lead but not insurmountable. There have been some crazy endings to games this year in the playoffs. Third, whether you lose by 21 or 28, who cares? Now if it is a running clock game with one team up 50 and the team is still throwing deep, I understand being mad but not cheap shotting the other team...now if you get a clean legal shot on a guy and decide to hit him hard, go for it.

Not the worst I have seen but very bad and ejection worthy. I will also say it is a gutless move by the kid. It really shows how "tough" you are when you get a running start and unload on a defenseless KICKER...the KICKER?!?!?, C'mon man! Glad the coach went out and immediately talked to him.

Thanks Brown...I look at this as good news for HHS as they are usually pretty good at stopping one dimensional teams. We will see in a week...
