Michael generally writes good articles but is this "cart before the horse"? Don't you have to make the playoffs or does everyone make it? Just not a big fan of Karma...

The Bird's Bats wake up tonight racking up 10 runs on 13 hits against a pretty tough Loveland team. Graybill, 2-4 goes yard on a flat out laser to RC... it hit 20 foot up the hill which was about 30 feet behind the 210 foot fence... Not great at math but that's a long way... Brooke Dill had a nice night at the plate going 3-3 with 3, RBIs Rachel Gabbard went 2-3 and Dutcher 2-4. The Birds only had 2 K's on the night at the plate. The Tigers were tough outs, gathering 11 hits with 5 doubles. Spencer of Highlands had 5 Ks against only 1 BB Loveland 4 11 1 HHS 10 13 2 JV won 6-5 on a Sac fly in the bottom of the eighth by Lorenzen "yes I said eighth in a JV game" Thanks Blues Great Day to be a Bluebird!!!

Sorry for the delay but here we go... The Lady Camels came ready to play in this one.. Both Spencer and Leicht had good command of the tight strike zone last night. Both only issuing 1 BB each. Spencer had 5 Ks against 1 for Leicht. Not much going on offensively for either team and the defenses had a lot to do with that. 6 hits for the Camels against only 7 for the Birds. There were some stellar plays in the field last night and probably the highlight was the diving catch by 2B Peterson of CCHS behind first in the bottom of the sixth. Miller from CCHS is super fast and laid down a nice bunt single in the first.. Catcher Josie Daley erased her though on her steal attempt with a laser to H Coffey covering the steal. HHS adjusted the defense on her and it seemed to work. H Coffey made another awesome play on her later in the game fielding a pop up in foul ground keeping the speedster off the bases. The Birds could only muster 2 hits over the first two frames. Dutcher in the first and Daley in the second. The scoring started in the 3rd after Coffey single to left, Sac Bunt by Spencer and a Dutcher single to left scoring Coffey. After the Miller bunt single, Spencer held the Camels hitless until the top of the fourth with an Orick 2B. Walsh followed with another double to left scoring Orick to knot the game up. CCHS threatened to take the lead in the top of the sixth with a Walsh single, Tehaar HBP. Pop up to second, Leicht then reached on an error but Walsh was forced at third. Baioni stopped the threat fielding a fly to right. CCHS put a runner on in the seventh but with the shift on, Miller bunted into a pop up double play... Barth to Dutcher In the seventh for the Birds... Pop up to Leicht, Dill beat out a single to short, H Coffey BB, Ground ball by Spencer to 2B flip to SS... Drops ball and Dill scores from second on a close play on the error to end the game CCHS 1 6 3 HHS 2 7 2

Birds drop an ugly one to the visiting Jaguars. Mustering only 4 hits and commiting 5 errors is not the support Bailey Spencer was hoping for. Spencer had 6Ks against 1 walk and two HBPs. The Birds lone run came after Haley Coffey beat out a grounder to SS and two batters later, Brennah Dutcher took one off the center field fence for a double scoring Coffey. EJ knotted it up in the second on a couple hits at 1-1. Barth singled in the top of the third and was sac over by M Coffey but two Ks killed the threat. The top of the third had the wheels fall off for the Bird defenders. EJ scored six on 4 hits, a hbp and 3 errors. EJ picked up one in the 4th and one in the 7th to end the scoring. The Birds host Campbell County Tuesday at the Bird Cage

HHS also has a few pretty good seniors. All four are signed to play at the next level. Louisville, Taylor U. Denison U. And Thomas More. These same four have started for four years + including their state run two years ago.

The Ashland teAm from state two years ago was pretty darn good... This weekend should be a good gauge for them. Regards of the outcome, they will find things to become better. Much rather play this caliber of teams now then be surprised again later down the road should we get there. Any score would not surprise me but their is a lot of senior leadership directing traffic.

LB... Not sure on the 11 errors... I had 7, I think, which is still high but 11 was an exaggeration....

I felt like both pitchers for SK did a nice job. Good control only giving up 1 walk and 1 HBP between the two of them. The Birds had some hits that dropped in "no mans land". I was told they were young as well and they had some early season jitters last night but they didn't play as bad as the score reflects. They will get better I'm sure.

The Birds used 14 hits behind Ace pitcher Bailey Spencer's one hitter to blank the 'Neers 12-0. Spencer had a no-hitter going into the seventh giving up a single. It took a bit for the Birds bats to get going but once they warmed up the game broke open. Spencer also has a 3-3 day at the plate. Shelby Graybill led the hitting going 4-5 2 2b. 2 rbis. Rachell Gabbard went 2-4 3 rbis and Brennah Dutcher 3-5 2 rbis. Zoie Barth and Maleah Abner chimed in with there first Varsity hits. Overall the Birds played well committing one error (my DD) but did leave 8 on base. That will be cleaned up as the girls get more hitting outside. They head to E Town this weekend for a few early tests before heading back to the ninth... Nice job ladies...

All this talk about hitting and this squad is built on defense... If you want to crack the lineup the glove better be oiled up and ready. After a brief absence Zoie Barth returns to try as she can to fill Quillens spot. Tough challenge but she definitely has the athleticism.

She has done both in the past... Probably clean-up most times so after... Her best season was batting 6th with 48 rbis... I did forget to mention Rachell Gabbard on the BGP KY frosh to watch list in the 2 hole up from 5th. She didn't hit as well... only .410 LOL Cool thing about this team is... very little holes in the line-up this year if any.. Of course I am truly biased but we have some really good young hitters that are ready to step in if any start to struggle... Best thing about the scrimmage the other night... not one strikeout for the Birds hitters

Those girls revel in each others accomplishments... All already have made their next level decision... So it's all about the present... W-L Records will mean nothing this year... three goals.... Win District... Win Region... Win the BIG ONE!!! Go Birds!!!

Well I can chime in on this one... #17 Brennah Dutcher.. .526 BA 17 Doubles 2 Dingers only 6 Ks in 95 PA, Signing to play at the next level.. details coming... Go ahead... don't pitch to Thumper... more RBIs for Bren... And with Coffey leading off.. there will be plenty of those opportunities... #sistersofswat

Birds took on the Brossart 'Stangs at the Birdcage tonight...sort of... Rain from the first pitch. Spencer pitched one inning and recorded 3 Ks and gave up a laser double to left center to Seiter, who by the way also sent one yard later in the game. Kid has a nice swing. Blame that one on the pitch call.... Just kidding coach. Birds plated 10 in the first with Graybill shooting a screamer off the third basemens glove driving in Coffey and Gabbard. Dutcher followed with shot up the middle. A sac fly by Daley scored Grimm running for Graybill. Dill up next hit a double to RC scoring Dutcher. A go, fc and walk and then sophomore Maleah Abner makes the off season work pay off with a hard shot to right in her first varsity AB picking up a couple rbis as well. A couple walks later and back to Coffey who burns the right fielder for a triple, driving in three. After the first couple innings it was really getting messy and both teams pitchers struggled to grip the ball. Multiple substitutions made doing the book quite the challenge and I apologize for not having the Mustangs names as I did not ask for a line up. But everyone knows Miss Seiter, or they should. Kids a player for sure. The score stayed the same till the third when Seiter took one of the Birds first varsity pitch deep to center. Five walks in the inning led to three runs with the score now 10-3. The Birds plated three more in the fourth before it just became too muddy to play mostly due to the rain .. I guess just a preview for the Pete Knoll weather. Good call by the umps. Overall good outing by the Birds. Considering five of the starting fielders just had a couple days practice fresh off the hardwood.

Hate that the Birds lost in the region but I must say glad to have them lacing up the spikes rather than the Chucks... Hoping for good weather tomorrow...

Well someone had to have voted for Highlands.... I think they have seven of the top 25 on their schedule. Ouch...
