  1. The Birds will be there. No prom this weekend so almost a complete team. Must say. Very hospitable place to play
  2. It wasn't just over either, it was at least 15 or 20 feet higher than the fence. I heard someone mention its 260 to the fence pretty amazing.
  3. Zero walks for the Birds. The way they were calling the pitches.. Dropping between the front and back shoulders being strikes.. They had to swing... While they were not all pretty.. They did collect 12 hits on the night. Orr robbed a couple for sure...
  4. The Birds lock down the number 1 seed in district 36 action tonight with the win. Story of the night was Bailey Spencer who was one strike away from a perfect game. Orr from Newport, who is a very nice player btw, took a 7th inning, two out, one ball two strike, up and away fastball and laced it into right field to break up the Perfect. Spencer recorded 14 Ks along the way. Nice job Bailey
  5. On a lighter note... Did you bring back Coach Coffey a new T Shirt? I heard he wore the other one out... Or that's the story anyway
  6. We've had this discussion on here before as well and I think that's where the questions are coming from. The way I score it is unless is a double steal situation, if an attempt is not made to get the runner out (defensive indifference) it is not a steal. An example may be runner on first and third and runner on first takes second without a throw. Not a steal. Not saying that is the cause here. She is very fast and I mentioned that during our game with Cooper.she recorded 1 steal against us and it wasn't even close.
  7. No doubt her glove and bat will be missed. You don't just replace that caliber of player but the Birds have been grooming players for the 4 seniors leaving and they will have a capable Shortstop. I will say first hand, the girls on the team have rallied around Haley and have a renewed determination and motivation to succeed. I believe all of them will step up their game, if for no other reason, to support Haley. As for Shelby, she will return to the field when ready... That could be tonight or in a week or two. She's been playing from a DP role and hitting well so when she returns to the dirt it will be an added bonus.
  8. I just mention that because Suganuma has almost as many as our whole team.
  9. Love watching good catchers! Amazing how just the throw down can change how a coach stratagizes. Haven't seen Miss Stewert this year and I Know she is awesome but what Lloyd can do even without a super hard thrower is special from that position. As for the second part, I agree on the strength of schedule having an effect on stats but even with that schedule. The birds have a few 400 plus and one over 550. We typically do not publish stats during the season as the team plays for wins as a team and we don't want them being so consumed with their individual averages. There are not any dummy's coaching in NKY and I'm sure they know and will give the earned respect to the players who deserve it. The anti-Haley Smith contingent is no longer around.
  10. I also would like to add that Dixie's Pitcher, Yake (hope I got that right) did a really nice job in the circle. She had the hitters guessing early and they didn't guess right.
  11. It took a bit for the Birds to get the sticks going in this one. But after a trip thru the lineup they started to see the ball better. Spencer threw another good game racking up 7 Ks against 3 walks giving up 4 hits in the shutout. Shelby Graybill, after sending one caught up against the center field fence sent one over in her next at bat with a line shot to right center. This brings her to 5 "Johnsons" this year and none have been even close. In her next at bat, with first base open, she was intentionally walked to get to Dutcher who promptly sent a shot to the fence in center to score Dill, who drew a walk and Graybill. Pick your poison with those two... Hitting leaders for the Birds Haley Coffey 2-4 with a 2B ,stolen base Shelby Graybill 1-3 with a HR 2 RBIs Brennah Dutcher 3-4 with a 2b and 2 RBIs. two stolen bases. Josie Daley has been hitting the ball hard lately and it paid off today with a double scoring one Dixie. 0-4-1. 0-0-0-0-0-0-0 HHS. 8-9-0. 0-0-0-1-4-3-x Weather permitting, the Birds will play Mason, OH Saturday night at Dixie... Mason is ranked in the top five in OH.
  12. The "Dance-off" was awesome. Both teams seemed to have a blast with it. Sometimes rain delays are not always miserable.
  13. Looking forward to this one. Should be an awesome day of softball. Looking forward to seeing Boone, NDA and Saint Henry to root on some summer ball players.
  14. My thoughts exactly honored to have him there... As for the pic...to steal a Daleism these ladies are standing on the shoulders of the Birds before them. It was awesome to see a group of sixth graders there today with their summer ball gear on... Chomping at the bit to be part of this tradition-in-the-making.
  15. Brennah Dutcher, The hard hitting first baseman for Highlands will sign her Letter of Intent to play for The Big Red of Denison University tomorrow at Highlands. Brennah will continue her education with a Pre-Med curriculum while playing third base for the Granville, OH institution. This completes the four seniors signing to play at the next level with Haley Coffey at Taylor University, Bailey Spencer at Thomas More and Shelby Graybill at Louisville. Proud of all these young ladies.
  16. Birds win a big district seeding game behind a 10 K performance by Bailey Spencer who took a no no into the sixth. I'll let LB fill in the details. Nice win by the Lady Birds.
  17. Picking this one is like picking the powerball numbers. The Pete Noll was an anomaly. Can't count that one. The only things I can predict is a good game, a great crowd and Lawnboy coming to his favorite place!!! We all know he secretly wants to be a Bird!!!
  18. Just a question. I thought sixth graders were not allowed to play varsity sports. Was she grandfathered in or am I incorrect?
  19. Bailey Spencer continued where she left off pitching a 1 hit shutout with 4Ks and no walks in five innings. She got plenty of help from her offense with the hitters cranking out 13 hits. Frosh Rachell Gabbard led the parade going 3-3 and a pair of rbis Shelby Graybill sent a laser over the centerfield fence going 2-3 Brennah Dutcher continues to have a hot bat going 2-3 with a pair of doubles and 3 rbis Morgan Coffey 1-2 2 rbis Josie Daley 2-4 Zoie Barth 1-3 with a triple Overall good night for the Birds with only a couple base running miscues that I will blame on the coaches....lol. Don't forget to smile coach... Inside joke The 10-6 Birds have the Beechies tomorrow and a big one against Ryle Friday...
  20. Just curious LB,maybe you can answer this for me. Speaking of the Classic... How are schools classified for softball? Do they follow the same standards as football? If so, wouldn't NCC be a 2a softball school?
  21. Birds one from the Jags... Details when the DD and mother give me the IPad back... Somehow ordering college gear for her signing takes precedence...
  22. Sophomore Ella Greiwe gets the win in her second ever varsity start, no-hitting the Lady Tigers in the shut out. Hurling 4 strikeouts against only 1 walk. Morgan Coffey led the Birds from the plate going 3-3, 2 rbis and a double. Brooke Dill and Brennah Dutcher had two hits a piece with Dutcher picking up a triple and 2 rbis. Shelby Graybill picks up a double and an rbi. I would like to give the Tigers some props. They are starting to really come along and the coaches truly seem to care. I hope they hang around as I would like to see their program continue to improve. Nice job by the Tigers tonight. The score is not indicative of the effort. Bellevue. 0. 0. 5 Highlands. 15. 10. 1
