Saw yesterday that the Bluebirds took a significant hit with the loss of senior Haley Coffey to injury. She has been a key player for them, an incredible asset on defense, and someone you don't want on base.

One of the best shortstops in the state and definitely the best in nky.

 

Was expecting there to be some chatter on here about it.

 

• What does this do to the Birds?
  
• Is there a "next person up" to go to? She's locked that spot down for years.
  
• Does this force Graybill back on the field?
  
• Does the gap between the region favorite and the rest of the pack narrow or totally disappear?
  

 

It has to be good news to some of the other teams. Not that anyone wishes for injury or would be happy about someone being injured. - :stop::stop:not what I meant. So no need to go there. :no::no:

No doubt her glove and bat will be missed. You don't just replace that caliber of player but the Birds have been grooming players for the 4 seniors leaving and they will have a capable Shortstop.

I will say first hand, the girls on the team have rallied around Haley and have a renewed determination and motivation to succeed. I believe all of them will step up their game, if for no other reason, to support Haley.

As for Shelby, she will return to the field when ready... That could be tonight or in a week or two. She's been playing from a DP role and hitting well so when she returns to the dirt it will be an added bonus.

Yes you can't replace Haley Coffey and I would want her in my lineup everyday of the week and Twice on Sunday's. No question that she is one of the Smoothest SS in the State. Nky is going to see how deep this Highlands program really is moving forward. Outside a Stud backup pitcher, the program is a deep as it's ever been. IMO!

I wish Haley all the best and a fast recover she is a hell of a player and hate to see this happen to her, such a great young lady. Highlands will not be able to replace Haley that will hurt them a lot IMO no matter who they are grooming. Haley's leadership though will help them a lot and I am still picking them to win the region.

Is it for certain that she is in fact out? It is my understanding that she has a similar type injury that my son had just recently. He was able to complete the entire basketball season and in fact banged it up a few more times along the way, but it was his last rodeo on the basketball court. Was going to give baseball a try, but the last direct hit to the area shut that down. Tape and pads can do a lot to help ease things along the way along with a lot of heart, grit and determination especially when it is your SENIOR year.

She hasn't had her MRI yet, so that is still a slight option depending on what they find. Of course she likes that option!! (The Doc did say Friday, "don't even ask!") We'll have to wait and see though. If it's a case where she can't really do anymore damage, it might fly. She has no issue playing through the pain. But we will not risk future issues that hurt her down the road.

Wishing her the best; we really enjoy watching her play anything! She leaves it on the field/court whatever. She is a leader and the girls follow the fun she has in playing. Hope she gets to return but glad it will not impact college or future. Speedy recovery!
