NKY Catchers

Featured Replies

Cincinnati.com had an article at the beginning of the season talking about the contingent of quality catchers in NKY (Battery not dead for Northern Kentucky softball).

Now that the season is in full swing :), what are people's thoughts on these catchers and who do they think is leading the pack?

Gabrielle Stewart (STH), Kennedy Baugh (ND) and Amanda Lloyd (BB) are obviously as advertised and performing well again. Graybill from HHS actually hasn't been catching while returning from injury but her replacement So. Josie Daley is very solid behind the plate and is becoming a consistent hitter as well. Pairing her with Bailey Spencer who is arguably the #1 P in region and that is definitely a top battery.

Hayley Mullins from Heritage Academy is having a good senior year. She has thrown out 8 baserunners in 10 games. Batting avg of .576 with 3 doubles, 2 triples and 2 hrs. Slugging percentage of .970

My opinion of what ive seen this year...

1. Stewart(STH) NKY Player of the year in my eyes

2. Dickerson(Ryle)

3. Baugh (NDA)

4. McGinn (Dixie)

5. Lloyd (Brossart)

6. Pollard (STH)

7. Zimmerman (NCC)

8. 7th grader...sorry cant remember the name (Lloyd)

Of course we havent played everyone yet and I am very biased.

I haven't seen them all either but have seen most.....can't argue your #1 lol but I believe you will be impressed with Daley from HHS. I would rate her ahead of several in your list. She is definitely top 5. (and a So.)

I have seen her in the past and yes she is a good young catcher.

So these top 8 in your eyes are the best ones so far that you have played? Make sense why Daley(HHS) isn't on your list. Graybill(HHS) although she doesn't Catch anymore should be in your top 2-3 based on past Experience! Right? Don't you think Graybill could step in right now and be one of your top contenders? I see where you listed 2 STH girls in your Top 8....That must be a good problem to have. 2 very good Catchers!:thumb:

Yes best Ive seen play THIS year. My opinion could change once we get through the rest of our schedule and I see more. My list wasnt intended to be a slight towards anyone just an opinion of what ive seen to this point.

No slight at all taken by me. Just trying to be Clear on your Rational!:thumb: I thought that's what you meant.....

As long as we don't start going down this road about Pop-Times I will play along. Yes I understand that it's a Huge Variable with College coaches but come on. If you can play the position Effectively you can play it at the next level. Way more to the position than how quickly you can throw someone out. JMO! Again, I understand it's huge part of it but I have seen other Intangibles that factor in then get all caught up in a "Pop-time"

Lloyd, Stewart and Baugh are a toss up for 1-3.

Then

Dickerson

Daley

McGinn

Just saw Daley and McGinn head to head last night. Both are very nice catchers.

Just my 2 cents.

And since we seem to be advertising on BGP this year, I feel the Bluebirds may have 4 seniors that could challenge for POY. I know this never happens, but I hope voters take a look at strength of schedule when looking at numbers. Who you play and the talent level of your opponents obviusly has an effect on numbers. And hope they look at both a players offense and defense effect on the game. But I know people tend to look at offensive numbers only and usually don't take the time to think about all the other factors.

Sorry for being late to the conversation, but I would agree with @RCC9, Stewart, Baugh, & Lloyd are a toss up for 1, 2, & 3. Dickerson #4.

Come on Lloyd is one for sure in my book !! LOL All 3 do a great job not only defensively but are huge on the offensive side as well. And I also agree with RCC9 about not just looking at the batting AVG. I can tell you as far as BBHS Graus , Childress & Orth can get it done and they wont think twice about laying out to steal a hit away.

I think Baugh & Dickerson are almost a dead heat, in both their defense and offense. Lloyd is right there with them. Stewart seems like a step above though.

Lloyd was all state as a Junior. She's really good. We are splitting hairs because all the names mentioned are really good and wonderful young ladies...which is more important in my book!
