  1. I agree. When you hold the top three in the Birds lineup to 1 for 11 that's doing your job for sure. The swings up and down the lineup seemed to be a little tentative at times trying to adjust. I'm sure it will be worked on this week. Just a funky night for the offense and I'm sure short lived. One of the little things that I picked up on last night was watching Spencer during a couple small rallies by the 'Stangs. The louder the Brossart players and fans got (all in good taste) the more determined Bailey got. When she gets that rickes off look on her face, her location and velocity gets zoned in. Usually it seems to work just the opposite with a lot of pitchers. So please bring your loudest crew to future games. Either that or I'll have to try and make her mad myself... Lol
  2. Birds win a close one at the Bird cage on a late inning rally. The hits were very few and far between as they seemed to be in a funk even before the game began. Pretty sorry round of infield set the tone. Their pre game infield is usually as crisp as it can be and really is fun to watch...not this time. I don't have the book with me but Spencer did have 7 Ks and only 1 walk of the intentional variety. Maleah Abner provided the shot to bring in the two Bird runs in the sixth. The pitcher from Brossart had the Birds off kilter all night. Absolutly not an excuse but the Birds were missing 4 starters for the game which did not help... Dutcher, Jansen, Baioni and Morgan Coffey all out for various reasons... They don't play again for a week so hopefully the bugs are gone by then...
  3. Nice win by our Birds!!! Great job ladies!
  4. Don't have many details yet. But the Birds travel to 11-2 Greenwood to take one on their home turf. Graybill took one deep I do know. Calling Meatpuppy... Or onehitwonder... Any news???
  5. Wow..feeling the love tonight.. Joat you're there right with us. That's what happens when you "Eat Cake" ...Just kidding I opened the door... BUT come senior night I may just be "mean azul, dancin' fool" sorry just couldn't use green and machine.... Found a way to get blue in there somewhere. What would Dutcher's senior night be without a little dancin'?
  6. Obviously they ordered those after mr Lorenzen and I left... Figures... Lol. Side point. Bar non... Best plate umpire I have witnessed in a long time.
  7. The Birds travel to East Bullit to take on the undefeated Chargers as part of their Tour of KY Spring Break week and give them their closest game of the season. The Charger pitcher, Roby is the real deal and by far is the hardest thrower we have seen thus far. She held the Birds to 3 hits and struck out 9 against 3 walks. Spencer did well with no walks and 3 Ks and held BE to 7 hits on the evening. The Birds struck first on a Coffey HBP, Spencer Sac Bunt, K, Dutcher single to Left scoring Coffey. In the bottom of one, BE Maros bunt single, stole second, advanced on error to third and Sac fly to Dill. Renneison 2B and drove in by a Dahl 2B to Left 2-1 BE after one. The Birds went down in order in the second as did the Chargers. HHS 3rd K, GO, BB, GO BE FO, FO, 1B, FO 2-1 after 3 HHS 3rd BB,, Fo, K M Coffey HBP, Runners advance on PB, but a K ended the threat BE Dahl led off with a 2B, Goers Sac, GO, Hagen 1B scoring Dahl, Mudd ROE, Maros 1B scoring Hagan, K 4-1 after 4 nothing really until the 6th HHS Dutcher BB, Gabbard 2B, Daley 1B scoring Dutcher, Pinch run for Daley and Gabbard, Grimm Sole second, Error by SS and Jansen Scores, K, K, K to end the inning BE K, FO, GO Score after 6 4-3 BE In her seventh the Birds had their top of the order up but went GO, GO, GO to end the game One thing I have noticed in these games... Every team we have played at this level does two things really well. They have a slapper or two and they execute bunts very, very well. The leadoff hitter for BE is an excellent Bunter and when you play for the bunt she just slaps it in the hole... Fun to watcher her.. Super fast BTW Overall good outing except for the loss...
  8. Birds drop a close one to The Chargers... Details when I get home
  9. OK. OK. I give... Geesh give it rest. Would love to seen either ball fielded by anyone intentionally... Would have made ESPN... That's right.. These are High School players and they should make every play, no matter how hard it's hit or its scored an error ... What was I thinking? I'll send back my pay for the game... Oh shoot, I forgot, I volunteer.... I guess I'll fire myself since everyone seems to have WATCHED the plays differently than I. Just PM me and I'll happily give you all the job....
  10. You are correct... Missed reinserting Gabbard after the pinch run... Thanks for the correction
  11. Not much to write on this one as the windstorm was mostly the story. Ryle was without their Prom girls (the Birds did the same a couple years back) so they were not at full strength. Both teams tried to battle the sand storm and called it after five and all the players got at least a chance to hit. Hey what would the Pete Knoll be without Mother Nature rearing her ugliness. Anything hit to the left side and up was a pop up to short. The wind killed everything.
  12. The Birds fought back from an early 1st inning ten run deficit to win in the eighth. The starting pitcher had her first Varsity pitches from the circle in a start against the Royals. The Royals sent 13 batters to the plate until the pitcher was hit with a shot to the leg and Spencer came in to relieve her. Spencer shut down the bleeding allowing 1 hit and two walks (1 intentional) recording 8 Ks over the next 7 plus innings. The lefty Gilbert from MC had two hrs in the first with the second being a Grand slam. 7 rbis in the inning for her. The birds scratched back with 1 in the first Graybill driving in H Coffey. In the third the bats woke up. H Coffey single, Gabbard sac bunt safe on error, Graybill 2b scoring both. Dutcher walk, Barth K dropped 3rd strike, scary part of the game. On the throw Graybill came home with the catcher blocking the plate scored but went out of the game for precautionary measures. Daley then doubled Dutcher in, Baioni walk, K, Dill 1b scoring Daley, Coffey walk, Baioni scored on a passed ball. 7 runs scored in the inning. With time running out it was the last chance In the fifth, h Coffey ROE, FC, Spencer 2b, Dutcher 2b scoring Pinch runner Lorenzen and PR Grimm. GO, Daley ROE, scoring Dutcher with 2 out to tie the game. International tie breaker kicked in. Mason runner on 2b, Faul 2b to center but a strong throw held the runner at third. Intentional BB to Gilbert to load the bases, K, then pop to Coffey to shut the threat. In the birds half, m Coffey on 2b, GO moving Coffey to 3b, Dill bunt single, h Coffey BB, Lorenzen ROE scoring Coffey. MCHS. 10. 8. 5 HHS. 11. 13. 0 Graybill 2-2. 2b H Coffey 2-3 Dill 2-4 Daley 2-4 2b
  13. By no means was anything to disrespect to NCC. If anything there is a strong mutual respect and rivalry between these programs. I would also like to send a shout out to Miss Watts, the young pitcher for NCC. She got rocked a bit BUT as a true sign of class, twitted or Instagramed or whatever these kids do today, Dutcher on a great game. There is so much negativity and mis-understood " competiveness " in the game these days that little things like that get missed. Kudos to her, her parents and coaches.
  14. NCAA rule 14.2.8 Error: A misplay charged to a defensive player when it is judged by the official scorer to have prolonged the time at bat (causes one or more pitches to be thrown) of an offensive player or contributed to an offensive player being declared safe. Nothing about going thru legs. Nothing routine about either hit. In my mind, not a misplay.
  15. Sorry read the book wrong. Dutcher was 2-3. Weak grounder ruined a pretty solid night
  16. through the five hole yes did not touch anything. Errors are very subjective. If these were, in my mind fieldable, no doubt awarded errors. Had they gone 8 inches to the left or right and past the fielder, then why wouldn't that be an error as we'll based on the logic that it automatically an error. I believe both shots were airborne and then hit the ground right at the fielder. Just because a ball goes thru some ones legs doesn't automatically constitue an error. If I felt the ball could have been fielded, I give the error. For instance. A can of corn to an outfielder that doesn't get caught... Error even though not touched. LBs angle would have been tough to see the flight of the ball, I was straight on. No disrespect to the NCC 3b but I would not have given Whitney Quillen an error either and she could pick it as well as anyone. I love watching Haley Coffey play and there is not a better SS in my eyes that I have seen this year, web gems every game, and even she has errors this year. So yes I do give errors...
  17. After compiling 17 hits (sorry LB home score book rules) lol the Birds could only pick up 5 in the night cap in a good ole pitchers duel. Knotted at 0s until the bottom of the seventh when with two outs and extras on the horizon. Knoch puts two on and short fly to center drops and the runner from second scores on a close play at the plate. Great throw by Dill just a tough handle by the catcher. Spencer had no walks (none by either pitcher) and was 2-2 at the plate. Dutcher went 2-2 with the other hit coming from Zoie Barth Neither team had any extra base hits HHS 0. 5. 3 Knock. 1. 6. 1
  18. I'm tough on the girls but seeing those hits by Coffey and Dutcher for any third baseman would have been a challenge much less fielding them. They were not routine grounders or pop ups.
  19. Untouched on both. Neither ball was touched by the third base men. Both were missiles
  20. They pounded out 17 hits... Dutcher 4-4. Two dingers a double and single... Pretty good night at the plate
  21. As much as these rankings are good for banter, all that matters is district seeding games, district tourn games and Region games. I believe that is the theory behind HHS scheduling. Learn from these tough games and be prepared come May when it matters. Strong senior leadership and coaches message will keep their focus on the goals. Record means little at this point. And btw, CCHS played a very tough nosed game and everyone from HHS has supported that. Not sure how it could be said that CCHS "should have won the game" though. HHS left 7 on base compared to 5 for CCHS. To me it was a pretty even game. "If 'ifs and buts' were fruits and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas" Kenny Sheilds
  22. No problem... I enjoy doing it. I admit, I'm not as good as LB13 as he set the bar for updates. I agree. I look forward to them as well. As for hitting, the tandem of Graybill and Dutcher seem to work as a pair. When one starts mashing the other joins right in. While hitting is taking its usual slow start, those two are still in the .500 range and against what they have faced, I'll take it. Heck, Dutcher was about .280 this time last year and finished over .500 on the year. I hope her trend of getting better as the season goes continues this season.
