Birds win a big district seeding game behind a 10 K performance by Bailey Spencer who took a no no into the sixth. I'll let LB fill in the details. Nice win by the Lady Birds.

I thought it was 9-0 but who's counting!...lol If you say it was 8 then it was 8

Spencer threw a gem and that about sums it up. HHS is solid in every position defensively, heads-up play by Gabbard on DP. Hitting for Birds appears to be coming along, run bases aggressively, they appear legit as region favorites.

NCC couldn't catch up to Spencer in this one. Their relative youth shows as she was able to set them up to swing at her pitch late in the count, veteran pitching indeed. Beyond that NCC needs to tighten their D. A few more batted balls by HHS to force the D and this one could have turned ugly. Too many bad throw & late decision-making made them look uninspired? Hope they take more energy and confidence into All A at end of week.

Highlands 3-0-1-1-2-1-0---8-5-0

NewCath..0-0-0-0-0-0-0---0-2-4

Highlands scores 3 unearned in the 1st on 2 errors, they plate one in the 3rd on a leadoff Coffey walk, SB, PB, and Daley RBI single. They score one in the 4th after the first two batters are retired, on a walk, HBP, and a Graybill RBI knock. They score 2 more in the 5th on a leadoff Daley base hit, Gabbard walks then a bunch of PB/WP. Birds score their last run with one out Coffey HBP, advances to 2nd on a GO1-3, Dutcher singles (Coffey to 3rd), then a Dutcher gets in a rundown and Coffey scores.

NewCath gets a Jenna Fryer infield single in the 5th and an Alex Burkart single to right-center in the 6th for their only hits of the game.

Bailey Spencer 7 inn, 2 hits, 10 K's, 2 walks

Haley Meyers 7 inn, 5 hits, 4 K's, 5 walks, 3 hit batters

Bailey threw a VERY nice game, she has gotten better every year since becoming a varsity starter at Dixie as an 8th grader.

The growing pains of replacing 5 4-year varsity starters.

Yeah your right! Bailey has significantly improved since the 8th grade. It wouldn't of mattered what School Bailey was pitching for, the Breds weren't hitting her last night. She was pitching her game! We are just blessed that she chose to continue her playing days at Highlands in which by the way is where her dad graduated from.....Yeah, you already knew that didn't you! I thought Meyers pitched a pretty decent game. IMO! She wasn't getting the corners called on some pretty nice pitching and it allowed the Birds to expose the Breds youth and inexperience in the Field. And you could see the frustration setting in play after play last night from the Top to the Bottom. But at the end of day you have to put the bat on the ball and NCCHS failed to do that.
