I saw Trusty this past season and he looks like a "catcher". Nice receiving and I think that I saw a 2.0 pop time on PBR. I didn't see his at bats though. Do you go with a guy that "can catch" or with a "catcher"?

Great to hear. Kid works hard.....

Boone County's Jeffrey Purnell Commits

Tough decision for a kid to make quickly i guess unless it's his number one choice going in. There will be more offers for Raisor the way he's been throwing the ball. -

Didn't Raisor get an offer as well? That's a loaded freshman staff.... -

I'm sure that someone will be able to officially confirm protocol on this one. However, I have heard that it's considered to be bad form and frowned upon. It seems that a lot of teams have kids that play JV but see varsity innings throughout the season and I can see those players playing JV. Bringing a lights out Varsity (no JV innings) pitcher/player down for one game would probably shake things up a bit.:sneaky: -

Mitch was fun to watch. He just kept chipping away at that them. Coach Baoini will have a great story to tell his grandchildren when he talks about his 100th win. Congrats to both Mitchell Jones and JB....... :ylsuper: -

Bomb over the right field fence. Hit a tree and branches started falling off the thing. -
Congratulations to Todd Ramey, Coach Baoini, and the Highlands Baseball Community. Georgetown is getting a good one. Go Birds...!!!

That's a rough start. Hopefully, everyone will be able to recover over the next couple of weeks. Remember, they are young and quick healers.

Absolutley right. Baseball is no longer a show up and play sport. It requires some form of year round dedication towards improving skills to stay competetive. Especially, when you have 50 kids that want to start Varsity. Some kids aren't interested in putting in the effort/work required to compete for spots against high school, summer team, and Fall ball players that are working on baseball in the offseason, and are still wondering if they are going to make the team themselves. And thats ok. I looked at the names that were listed as potential exodus members and all have the athletism and talent to excel at any sport they choose. In my opinion, it comes down to how bad a player wants it. Plus, Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. They can assess the talent pool, do the math, and make their own informed decision on whether they want to work for a spot or just move on. IMO, it's a choice.

It sounds like EVERYONE will be working hard to earn a spot wherever they can get it. My bet is that only the strongest and/or most talented will survive. Field the best team you can field. Varsity is boss and JV players will need to fight to get moved up. Injuries, slumps, and breakout performances will determine the Varsity roster on any given week. Let the revolving door games begin.

Do these seniors have game? What are their primary positions and can they pitch?

I've always liked Marshall Rich from Ryle. He hustles and is sound defensively.

Forgot about Heck. My mistake.

Both Walkenhorst and Dougherty can bring a left handed bat to the line-up which could be a plus in their favor. Krieger will be battling for the role of the 5th or 6th starter IMO with a top 4 of Jones, Martin, Raisor, and Bunning. Maybe it's time to start calling out who will provide middle relief if needed and who will close the games out. What about Mitchel Cain at 2nd?

Who are the potential candidates for the 2nd base spot? Outfield contenders: Krieger, Walkenhorst, Dougherty, and Beal...?

Right.....I've always had great baseball instincts ...but my fastball topped out at 62 mph. :idunno:

Trent Kincaid (Simon Kenton) Good wheels, bat, glove, and high velocity infield arm. Great instincts. He's definitely a NKY kid to watch!
