2013 Freshmen 9th Region Tournament
The Penguin replied to nkuclubbaseball19's topic in KY Baseball (High School)
Great Job by Coach Taylor/Coach Finfrock and The Baby Birds! I think that they landed at .500 last year and 20-8 in 2013. Great to see some baseball only kids coming up through the Highlands Farm Club! Congratulations! -

So it sounds like there is no benefit in a player playing up unless he will see an undetermined number of innings and/or dad needs to compensate for weaknesses in other areas. I think that most would have to agree with you on the rest. If a kid shows up to the tournament and has to be introduced to the rest of the team.....It might just be for the sake of winning a trophy! -

....So just confirm your "ALL SEASON LONG" post. If at any time during the season a player is pulled up to the next level as part of his development, he should be required to stay up. The player should not be deemed eligible to play in the lower level/class tournament...regardless of the number of innings logged at that level. Did I get that right? -

Great to hear about the Bunning kid's performance. I've heard that he worked hard during the offseason to "Get Better" and from the game summary above, it sounds like his hard work is paying off. -

Actually, I think it's 5. 4 may have played and the 5th is nursing an injury. -

This what I found: Starting Pitcher for Highlands - Walkenhorst Relief - Miller-Cox and Rust Highlands played 3 8th graders last night. Leadoff hitter, 8th grader Kyle Rust, smashed the ball all night long! -

I heard that Kenny Ball and Todd Ramey were selected for "All tournament team"? Not sure what all that entails but it sounds like they were recognized by the tournament director after the game. Good stuff...!!! -
In the spirit of this conversation but somewhat not....Have you seen the number of Handicap spots outside of Target? Always empty and folks without a card have to walk from the back of the parking lot. All of the good spots are taken........I need a card for rainy days.....

Pat Maley is the Frosh coach for St. Henry. He grooms the field nightly from what I hear. He's good baseball people.:thumb: -

Coach Maley runs a nice program. Ernie Brady is a nice addition to the coaching staff as well. Nice field, Nice weather, and a good game to watch...!!! Where does the Radilla kid play summer ball? -
The kids hanging out waiting for rides after workouts seem to be getting bigger and stronger. Any new kids join the team? I don't recognize all of the faces.

Mike Flynn Resigns From Highlands

I agree....middle school is the place to teach them to get in and bang. Only a handful 6th through 8th that seem to get it...Where's the Dennis Rodman box out when you need it? -
Both have excellent speed and will be fun to watch!

The next year is going to be fun to watch. Kids growing. Dads shrinking. Lafrange has a nice shot and will definitely play a major role on the Frosh team when they hit the court again in 2013.

I recently heard that Pulsfort was out with an appendix issue. Not sure if he's back yet.

Sounds like we need to test it. Let's all get together and take a few swings at an 84 mph fastball from 60 and then have the pitcher move up 6 feet. In the Little league world series (from 46 feet I think) they typically show pitch speed comparing say a 71 mph pitch as the equivalent to a 90+ MLB fastball etc. Not sure how it's calculated but it tells me it at the very least it feels faster to the hitter.

Did they pitch from 54 last year or 60? I've heard great things about these kids. Are they 14U or 15U this year?

So how are NKY area tryouts going so far?
The Penguin replied to W32's topic in KY Baseball (High School)
Should a 13 yr. old be attempting a slider at this point? What's the right age? -
The word on the street is that additional cuts are coming. Looking forward to seeing the final rosters.
