mine is a 7th grader going out for Freshman team. I ask him how he did, he keeps saying "good". not sure what that means. They did some hitting in cage today and all he could tell me is "good" and "I got hit". is this normal?

It sounds Good...

It is the texting generation, they say as little as possible, mine do the same thing!

Scott has no pitching at really any level.

Cooper had their tryouts today at Florence Freedom and was great to see them outside hitting and fielding.

Their Varsity team for the first time in schools history is really really deep. Which is a good thing of course.

They have 5 guys that can start in the outfield and do a great job so that will be interesting seeing who Coach Bieger starts out there. I'm sure AJ Collins and Nick Carr are shoe ins to start in the outfield, but the 3rd player will be interesting. The 2 frontrunners in my opinion are Lawhorn and Louis, both can cover a lot of ground and both are pretty good contact hitters who when in the lineup would probably be batting 1st or 2nd. Should be interesting to say the least who wins the spot.

The infield should be solid with Jared Blank being the anchor at SS.

Hopefully the pitching performs up to the hype they are getting, if so they should be able to give Cov Cath, Ryle, and Conner a run for their money this year.

The turnout at Ryle this year has been impressive. Easily the largest number of kids trying out in many years. Believe I counted somewhere around 70+ kids at the 8, 9, and 10th grades and around 35 more at the 11th and 12th grades. Have to believe this will translate into some very good teams with some depth.

Boone County has 45 8th and 9th graders trying out this year. I spoke with the coach today and he confirmed my count. He said this is the largest number since the first year he was there and that was 51.

Injuries have hit them hard unfortunately.

How do most teams conduct tryouts? Is there typically a first cut? How long of a period is this?

The Scott Freshmen team looks to have a lot of pitchers, but they will be young. Looks good for the future, but will be a tough year this seaon.

Unfortunately there really isn't a lot of time for tryouts. so they usually go on for 2 weeks and then the teams are picked. I think they only have like 10 days for tryouts or something like that.

I think a program is required to hold atleast 5 days of tryouts before making any cut. Some programs will make a first cut at that time to weed out players who are in over their head and slowing down drills. After that some teams will maybe go for another week/week and a half before selecting their final teams.

They return alot of players from last year. Injuries happen Scott will be just fine. They will score alot of runs this year.

Who are some notable pitchers for the freshman team, only know about Andrew Trame. Any outstanding middle schoolers?

Walker Terry is a good pitcher. He's been trying out with the JV & Varsity. Jake Ohmer is another notable pitcher.
