So how are NKY area tryouts going so far?

It's such a shame that Ray Everett can't pitch this season. He's always been a favorite of mine.

Everett is always fun to watch. Hopefully he can bounce back to full form next year. He has a future ahead of him.

Everett may return this year still. He had problems before football and bounced back. I was wondering how the junior pitchers were since the jv had a pretty solid season last year. And if Kramer is pitching who will be the cathcer?

Aren't any teams using their football fields? Seems to me like that would be a great way to get a look at a kids fielding ability.

I know Dixie uses the football field this time of year. Last year they even had a couple of scrimmages against other schools on it.

Brenden Wells will catch when Kramer isn't.

Wells will also eat some innings up on the mound. While not an ace, he is very solid. Not a whole lot of pitching on last years JV team, at least any that will be able to help much at the varsity level.

Have you seen Cooper football field? lol

They are better off playing in the parking lot....which they do.

Today though they have their intrasquad scrimmage at florence freedom which should be great. I've been up for hours waiting to go and watch some baseball

mine is a 7th grader going out for Freshman team. I ask him how he did, he keeps saying "good". not sure what that means. They did some hitting in cage today and all he could tell me is "good" and "I got hit". is this normal?

Your boy played for Midland this past summer if I'm thinking of the right kid???? Very nice player. If he makes the frosh team as a 7th grader that's not bad.

yup...he's taking the hill today in the final day of tryouts at Florence Freedom...I talked to the coach and they are not sure how its going to shake down with JV so no decision has been made. They don't want to put him on the roster and sit. If they don't move some kids up they want him to go back to Midland. We are a National League team in SWOL and play a very competitive tournament schedule. They want whats best for him in the long run. I appreciate that. I wasn't expecting him to make it this year. Just wanted him to get the experience. The kid doesn't see things that way and has been busting it.

It is an interesting situation to have a 7th or 8th grader that plays SWOL National league and wants to tryout for the High School team. Each situation is different but I would guess that that SWOL National team will be playing better competition in general then most High School freshman or JV teams will. Also, most 13u and 14u SWOL teams schedule games and tourneys to begin in late March or early April. So depending on the team, they could be short a player or more if they have kids make the High School team. I am trying to say which is right and which is wrong, just thinking which is better for the kid in the long run? Does he play 13u or 14u?

Coach Bieger will do what is best for him so you can assure your boy that he should hhave a pretty good year no matter what. My boy has played Varsity since his Freshman year and he catches so when he wasn't going to play a varsity game Coach Bieger had him play JV so he wouldn't spend a lot of time not playing, it worked out great because he played just about every game wether it was JV or Varsity. They will do whats best for him you can be assured of that.

I know the kids may not see it that way all the time, but playing time is the most important thing for the kids at that age and it will help him out a ton. Better to get qquality playing time than playing up and sitting a lot.

Cooper had their intrasquad scrimmage today at Florence freedom field and.......Cooper won :sssh:

For varsity, and in many cases, JV, the players are known and tryouts are a formality.

A new kid that hasn't been to conditioning has to really make an impression quickly,

while someone that has been around would have to seriously regress to not make the cut.

The youngsters are the ones that have to truly "try-out", and even that is changing with all the ms programs and select teams that are now baseball organizations.

Conner made final cuts today after an intrasquad game between the JV and Varsity teams. They played not on the football field but the football parking lot!
