GRC has too many weapons. I don't expect they'll be challenged outside of Montgomery and Campbell in the 10th, and honestly; those may not be challenges.

Times are tougher in Maysville than they have maybe ever been. Coach Kirk and his squad have to be frustrated.

Holmes is very young, playing 4 sophomores and 2 8th graders, and McCutchen getting hurt obviously doesn’t help things. With that being said, if they keep the young talent they have, they will return to being a respectable program in NKY. Sam Elsbernd is Covington through and through, he is the man to get the Bulldogs back on track. He has the mind and the will to make the changes, he will have those boys clawing for every point.

There was a movement a decade or so ago to switch Girls games to Friday in January. I don't know if that's the reason, but I assume that's what was behind this. GRC didn't play last Friday, but they also DO play the next two Fridays. Maybe MLK weekend is partially the reason.

’Twas quite a week in ye olde Region X. Lots of turnover, several surprising wins and margins, and a few not so surprising results. The All A Classic is in full swing, which gives the smaller half to the region a chance to shine, and they did. Anyway, here’s this week’s Pi Rankings for the 10th. 1.) George Rogers Clark ?|| (11-3) The Birds handled Paris like we expected, dominated Ashland Blazer in a way not many expected, and then topped off their week with a major win over Frederick Douglass. Gay, Ashford and Akins are all cooking. The only thing that stands between GRC and Rupp is GRC. 2.) Montgomery County ?|| (7-6) 2 losses could send the Indians spiraling, but Bryan Station and Princeton (OH) are formidable opponents. MoCo and Campbell are 2A and 2B right now. This week they see Pendleton, then a major matchup with GRC Thursday that will tell us all we need to know about the Indians. 3.) Campbell County ?|| (11-3) Sowder’s Men handled business this week after a tough week, but Cincinnati Trailblazers and Augusta aren’t exactly getting them ready for much. All you can do in those situations is win handily, and that’s what they did. This week it’s a trip down the AA to Maysville and then hosting Scott, followed by a trip up to Summit Country Day. If the Camels don’t end the week 3-0, I suspect the Eagles might be the ones who make that happen. 4.) Bishop Brossart (? 2 ) ?|| (6-8) This could still be an overreaction to the Campbell win, but they survived a rock fight with Pendleton, and survived Augusta trying to take the air out of the ball, so they deserve to keep climbing. The Highlands score is noteworthy, but Highlands is in another world right now. Bracken County hosts them for round 2 of the All A Tuesday, and we’ll see how things shake out as they have Nicholas looming on the other side of the bracket. 5.) Nicholas County. ?|| (12-5) Carlisle’s crew went 1-1 on the week, losing to Sayre by a lot, but beating a HOT Calvary team by a few dozen. They have Paris in the All A, and presumably a matchup with Brossart looming later in the week. We know they’ll be battling hard for the coveted spot in Pi’s rankings. 6.) Scott ? ( ? 2) || (7-6) A tough loss at Calvary accelerated what was already going to be a tough week. A surprisingly talented Dixie and Lloyd both had their way with the Eagles, who look to get back on track Monday against Community. Friday, the Camels in Claryville host the Eagles in what could reveal a lot about their makeup. 7.) Bourbon County ( ? 1) ?|| (9-6) The Colonels pulled off something they’ve only done two other times since 1999, and beat Scott County. The Doss win solidified this as a good week for Bourbon. Their reward? A trip to GRC Tuesday night in a seeding game, followed by what should be two mop up wins against Highlands Latin and Paris. 8.) Calvary Christian (? 2 ) ?|| (8-6) I am loathe to move the Cougars past the Eagles, despite their win, because the rest of the week was disappointing. 20 point losses to St Henry and Nicholas County brought the Cougars back to earth, but they are continuing to impress. They will not go quietly into the night. 9.) Pendleton County ( ? 1) ?|| (8-7) Cats have 9 lives, and they definitely lost one in their slugfest against Brossart. They rebounded nicely after tough losses to win over Robertson and Heritage, as expected. This week, it’s MoCo and Nicholas County. If Mason Monroe’s Men can show out well this week, we could be in for a surprise. 10.) Harrison County ?|| (3-11) In the Tenth this is where the drop off becomes precipitous. Harrison County went 0-2 on the week, losing to Henry County and Berea. Things get brighter this week on Friday when Robertson County comes to Cynthiana, but that game is a pain sandwich between Franklin County and Lafayette. 11.) Mason County. ?|| (2-10) Mason not dropping is more reflective of who is below them than what they’ve accomplished. The third loss to Lewis County in 25 years is reflective of a difficult season for our friends on the hill. Campbell County will visit this week, and then what may be one of the most competitive games against St. Pat since 1999, followed by a visit to Flemingsburg. If the Royals go 0-3 this weekend, things could get very interesting. 12.) Bracken County ?‍❄️|| (9-5) Duel wins over Robertson County in a week are good for the W-L record but not for climbing the Pi Rankings. This week it’s the All A against Brossart and then they travel to Manchester to play Model in the Bobby Keith Classic. 13.) Paris ? || (2-9) This isn’t what Coach Strait envisioned when he came to The Paris of Bourbon County, but a young and inexperienced team can do nothing but grow. Nicholas County Monday in the All A, followed by Estill and then crosstown rival Bourbon. Consider it all joy when you face trials, as the author once said. 14.) Augusta ?|| (3-9) Coach Jason Hinson has a reputation for winning, and this season has to be wearing on him. This week the Panthers are hitting the practices hard, only seeing Carroll County on Saturday. 15.) St Pat ?|| (4-7) Lex Turner has more wins in the last 3 months than the 3 years previous. Things are getting better in Maysville, and the big bad wolf up the road is hurting. Could this be the year? 16.) Robertson County ?|| (1-13) Perhaps, the Devils could enjoy a victory this week against Wellspring, but then they travel to Cynthiana the next night. It’s going to be a long year in Mt. Olivet.

The only name tossed around last time before Honaker was Cole Mosier. I don't see him moving. BUT, Gallatin is a really well-paying district for rural NKY, and I am sure they will attract an applicant or two.

GRC scored more points as a team than Bishop Brossart and Pendleton did combined, and then some. Continued their dominance of the 40th, and the 10th.

A game that some would dub a rock fight, shows that Pi's rankings were right on with Brossart just above Pendleton.

Calvary is maybe the best they’ve ever been. When’s the last time they had a kid who could dunk? They’re not the Calvary of old.

Final: 49-40 another shocking result in the 37th.

Calvary up 23-18 at halftime. A close contest.

They have not played up to expectations at all this year, a Calvary upset is not out of the realm of possiblity I'd say.

This might have been one of the more difficult weeks for rankings in the 10th. I had to break my own rule after the Mustangs shocking victory, I couldn’t catapult them all the way over the Camels just yet. But there is lots of turnover in the top, middle and bottom of this region. One thing’s for sure— it will all shake out in Maysville in March. 1.) George Rogers Clark ?|| (8-3) A trip to Myrtle Beach meant more wins than sun and sand for Coach Cook and the boys in Winchester. They won games against teams from Pennsylvania and Connecticut, but lost to one from Wisconsin. They also handled a tough Hazard team at home. Paris, Ashland Blazer and Frederick Douglass make this week a strong one for the Redbirds. 2.) Montgomery County (? 1) ?|| (7-4) A 2-1 finish at their Holiday Tourney in Virginia has the Indians rising 1 spot in the world famous Pi BGP Ranks. Bryan Station visits Mt Sterling Thursday and then Princeton (OH) comes calling Saturday. 3.) Campbell County ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (9-3) The loss in the championship of the Planet Fitness Holiday Tournament started the week off poorly, but the L to a cross county rival in a seeding game made it just about the worst start to 2026 imaginable for the Camels. Coach Sowder’s Camels play Cincinnati Trailblazers, Augusta, and then a big battle with Covington Holy Cross. 2 bounce back wins and then a battle this week should settle things down for the Claryville Camels. 4.) Scott ? || (7-3) The Swauger tournament in Bellevue is not a memory the Eagles will cherish. Tough losses against Evangel and Newport had the Eagles struggling, but they took out ALL of their frustrations on the Wildcats in Pendleton County on Friday. Calvary, Dixie and Lloyd on the docket this week for the boys in Taylor Mill. 5.) Nicholas County. ?|| (11-4) Every time I get down on the BlueJackets, they hear me, and respond. After I was prepared to drop them in the rankings they pull out W’s 4 times this week. Sayre Thursday, and then Calvary in the All A Saturday. 6.) Bishop Brossart (? 3 ) ?|| (4-7) Am I overreacting to the Mustangs win over Campbell County? Most likely. But, Franzen’s frenzied frenetic defense flummoxed the Camels, and credit where credit is due. They definitely have the momentum this week, as they see Pendleton County, Highlands, and Augusta. 7.) Bourbon County ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (7-6) Barrels o’ fun were had in Bourbon County this week. 2 wins in the Railroad Classic, followed by a tough loss to Berea. This week is a light one for the Colonels with only one game. But it’s Sean Woods coming to town with his Cardinals of Scott County. 8.) Pendleton County ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (6-7) Please, no one tell the pre-teens I teach what PC’s record is right now. Memes and jokes aside, they’re probably happy with where they stand. The Scott loss was rough, but the Wildcats are poised to keep up the positive momentum happening at Pendleton Memorial. 9.) Calvary Christian (? 3 ) ?|| (7-4) The Cougars caught fire this week and while it may be hype, I am rewarding them accordingly. 4 straight wins is 4 straight wins and I like the way they’re playing heading into Scott, St Henry and Nicholas County this week. They may come back to earth, but momentum is a fickle dame. 10.) Harrison County (? 1 ). ?|| (3-9) Harrison’s ascension in the ranks has less to do with them, and more to do with the fall of others. You can’t really compare scores, but losing to Rowan Co by only 5 is noteworthy, when fellow 10th region foe Mason loses by 20. The 2A sectional kicks off this week, we’ll see how the ‘Breds match up. 11.) Mason County. ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (2-9) Kirk’s Royals are scuffling. Their precipitous drop in the Pi rankings is probably noted in the Ledger Independent at this point. They’re flailing, and may continue to fall. Comically, KHSAA has all 3 of their next games being played at the football field. Where I’m not sure the hardwood would survive the cold. 12.) Bracken County (? 1 ) ?‍❄️|| (6-5) 2 losses and a win isn’t usually a formula for climbing the rankings, but, they’re still holding strong on the Glacier. I foresee 3 wins this week for the Polar Bears, but amongst lesser talent. 13.) Paris ? ( ⬇️ 2) || (1-7) Times are tough around the Eiffel Tower. The Hounds have only one win, and this week sees GRC and West Jessamine before the All A. 14.) Augusta ?|| (3-7) Starting off 2026 with a win has to be good for momentum for the Panthers, but they take on the Camels Thursday and then a red hot Mustang team Saturday in the All A. 15.) St Pat ?|| (2-6) The Saints took an L in their last appearance in 2025, but have Protestants (Heritage) Catholics (Villa Madonna) and Polar Bears (Bracken Co) on their schedule this week. 16.) Robertson County ?|| (1-11) They won the battle of evil over Williamstown, something positive for them to build on! Bracken, Pendleton and Bracken again this week. Ebenezer Scrooge called Christmas a ‘humbug,’ and I think it’s because he knew that Christmas led to slow weeks in the 10th. Not a lot happening. A few good matchups, and this week the tourneys heat up, but there wasn’t much changing in the rankings this week. 1.) GRC ?|| (6-2) The Cardinals' only matchup this week was against Father Judge out of Philly, and while his son Aaron hits home runs, the basketball team proved to be a tough matchup, losing to the Cardinals by only 4. This week, they’re in Gatlinburg by the Sea, AKA Myrtle Beach, where their next opponent is Wisconsin Lutheran. Hopefully, they don’t get a sunburn, and they find out more of what they’re made of. 2.) Campbell?|| (8-1) Judgment Free. That’s the promise of Planet Fitness, and they’re sponsoring the Holiday Tournament at Central Hardin, but that doesn’t mean we’re not judging the Camels. They played well against Waggener on Tuesday at the Scott Winter Classic and treated Green County like the 2.5lb plate on Saturday. The rest of the tournament should prove a little tougher for the dromedaries. 3.) MoCo ?|| (5-4) Two tough losses have to leave a sour taste in the Indians’ mouth as they prepare for a week off. Holy Cross and Hamilton Heights both had them reeling. No games this week means rest and recuperation for the guys in Mt. Sterling. 4.) Scott ? || (6-1) “Eagles Win” is a refrain that has been heard 6 times in Taylor Mill already this season. A successful time at the Winter Classic is followed by a trip to the Swauger. They’ll see Evangel, and then Newport, neither an easy opponent. This week will reveal more about the Eagles. 5.) Nicholas Co. ?|| (7-4) The Bluejackets' only action this week was a loss in their last game in the Gateway Holiday Classic. I started the season high on the Bluejackets but have soured as of late. We’ll see how they fare through the All A. This week, the Boys Chain Rock Classic in Pineville will hopefully give them some time to gel and find their stride. 6.) Bourbon Co ?|| (6-5) The Colonels took it on the chin from the ghost of Bobby Keith and Clay County, then they responded by handling the boys from Breathitt. Up and down continues to be a theme for the Maroon and Gold this season. Berea on the schedule 2 times in 5 days, might help them swing back up. 7.) Pendleton (? 1 ) ?|| (5-5) I have no doubt that Falmouth is buzzing at the news that PC is now 7th in Pi’s rankings. Wins over Huntington Expression Prep and Thomas Nelson as well as losses to Campbellsville and PRP made for a week the Wildcats should be happy with. They will host the Demons from Williamstown, who make the windy drive down Route 22. 8.) Mason Co. ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (2-7) I will have to do some digging, but I imagine that it has been a long, long time since the Royals found themselves in this big of a hole to start the season. Wolfe, Owen and East Jessamine all had their way with the Kings of the Hill at the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive challenge. This week Lafayette comes to the historic Mason County Fieldhouse, and then Mason travels to Rowan. We’ll see what happens. 9.) Brossart (?|| (3-5) A week off ends with their Dave Schabell Classic, they play host to Walton Verona and then Roger Bacon. Credits to the Mustangs for taking on two solid teams in their own tourney. 10.) Paris ?|| (1-5) The Hustlin’ Hounds played Lafayette tough, and beat KCD for their first win of the year. They’re young, and building, but they’re building in a flood zone. This week Scott County plays host to the boys from Paris. I suspect Pi will be dropping the Greyhounds down this list a little further unless there’s a miracle in Georgetown. 11.) Bracken (? 1) ?‍❄️|| (6-3) Polar Bears love Winter, and they’re 1-0 since the solstice. A win over Frankfort Christian, followed by a return visit from those same Royals. Another light week in Brooksville, interested to see what January holds5 12.) Harrison Co ( ⬇️ 1). ?|| (2-8) Cynthiana’s boys scuffled to four losses this week. Only one of which was even close. The ‘Breds are probably going to fall in next week's rankings too, hopefully they’ll see some momentum swing their way. 13.) Calvary Christian ?|| (3-4) A week off for the Cougars. They show up for the Swauger Holiday Classic well rested as they face Heritage, Bellevue and Boone Co. If they end the week 3-0 they should feel very good, and they’ll be proud to see the up arrow next to their name on Pi’s rankings. 14.) Augusta ?|| (2-7) Augusta took the week off. I’m sure they enjoyed it. Hopefully, Santa Claus brought them some extra wins for January. They’re off until Jan 3 when they play Bellevue. 15.) St Pat ✝️|| (2-5) Their only wins are over lowly Robertson County. But I have no doubt that Lex Turner will take them wherever he can get them. A trip to Dayton for the GreenDevils v Saints matchup is all they have on the docket this week. 16.) Robertson ?|| (0-8) The Black Devils are struggling. RULH (OH) and St Pat were this week's perpetrators. Frankfort Christian traveled to Mt. Olivet, but no score has posted. This week the Devils play Casey County and Lynn Camp.
