The official announcement is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at a news conference at Steigerwald Hall located in the Holbrook Student Center on the campus of Thomas More College. The game is set to be played Thursday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Dixie Heights High School.

I've coached them both and enjoyed coaching them both for the same reason: the kids really try to absorb what you are teaching them. Yeah, girls are different, they don't internalize losses the way guys do (some do, but not all), but I have tried to coach them the same and the results from an effort standpoint have been the same. The big difference is boys have a more natural feel for the game than girls do and you don't have to do quite as much repitition in a set for them to "get" it. Fundamental wise they both need constant repitition and in the end if you do they both do start to do things naturally (box out, screen properly, roll properly, play help defense, play with toughness, move without the ball, etc.).

It is not sanctioned by the KHSAA, but it is a state championship - the All 'A' Classic state championship. Argue the merits if you will, but my daughter's golf team at Villa won the state title in 2007 and a banner hangs in the gym that says "2007 All A Classic State Champions." Doesn't diminish anything and it doesn't supercede what anyone accomplishes at the KHSAA all-school level.

I doubt it will be that quick. It has to be posted for X number of days

Was told by someone from Newport on Saturday that coach would be named either today, tomorrow or Wednesday. Sent email to AD and principal this morning seeking confirmation and haven't heard back.

Yes... Coaches asked Tom Gamble to help run it and he's secured sponsorships to make sure scholarship money is covered... don't know details of site or date... will find out...

There is no doubt the state needs to be consistent - either seed all districts or blind draw them all. Once district tournaments start, it starts the "state tournament" for everyone. There shouldn't be different rules district to district.

Correct call, wild finish. Only thing officials didn't do was give one final signal after meeting at scorer's table that basket was good. They discussed it then one waved above his head which the Frankfort fans and players thought meant basket wasn't good, but just meant game was over. Bredwinner, I don't disagree with you about adding the second team. I pushed for it this year in football and got it and hopefully moving forward in the other sports we can do the same. Print space is one issue I was told we hadn't done that in the past, but that doesn't mean we can't do it moving forward.

It acutally didn't take that long ... 1 hour and 37 minutes ... second game (Lloyd-Ludlow) took just 68 minutes to complete (started at 8 and ended at 9:08) ...

Only player fouled out if I remember (don't have my scoring sheet with me), but I think at least four others had four... Strategy for last couple of minutes was to foul ...

Trust me, I wrote it, I was there and it isn't a misprint.... 20 of FTs came in the fourth quarter, but still ....

NewCath rallied from 13-7 deficit in second quarter thanks in part to making 30 of 49 FTs .. Holy Cross shot just two FTs.... Nicole Kiernan had 23 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and five steals. I thought everyone nominated earned honorable mention. Obviously not, because two of my/coaches nominees didn't earn honorable mention (Durham and Embs). I am assuming then that a player had to earn at least one vote to be named honorable mention. We voted for a first team and a second team (1 QB for each, 2 RB for each, 3 WR, 5 OL, 1 K; 4 DL, 4 LB, 4 DB, 1 P). The reason there were some multiple picks on either the first team or second team was I am assuming due to a tie in the voting process. Embs had a great season, but with technically only four running backs being voted for (2 first team and 2 second team) I can see how he didn't receive a vote.

Morgan didn't get nominated so it's a moot point. Each player I submitted I made sure to include all the positions they played (i.e. Collins as a RB/DB; Dylan Hayes as RB/DB; Nussbaum as a RB/LB, etc.). Here were the players nominated from this area (11 were from the coaches and four were from me I won't say which was which): Max Nussbaum, Cameron Fogle, Drew Barker, Blake Bir, Tyler Durham, Seth Hope, Mitch Dee, Donovan McCoy, A.J. Collins, Tyler Morris, Cole Mosier, Dylan Hayes, Tyshawn Embs, Jared Bowling, Jonathan Scruggs). So the question is who do you take off the list?

I will help explain this again this year, because it is truly a messed up process: each media outlet in the state is allowed to nominate 15 players no matter how many teams are in your area. Our area coaches nominate 10 players (it's done by vote and so there were 11) and I added four names to it. Then those who nominated are allowed to vote. I hate the process, because no information on players is shared, some areas that have only a few teams still get to nominate 15 players. Makes no sense for our area, Louisville and Lexington. There are a few of us who are trying to get this process changed.
