Unless there has been a hire that I am unaware of at this point. It is now March 1st and the administration at Newport has yet to hire a Head Coach.

 

Does anyone have any insight as to what they are waiting on? Who the candidates are?

They don't need a coach yet. They can't start Spring football until basketball ends. Maybe the basketball team can buy them another 2 weeks.

That is true...........but if you have not even started the process then I doubt in two weeks it will be ready.

In all honesty, does it really matter? Hell they could hardly field enough kids last year, naming a coach now or 2 months from now is not going to make that big of a difference.

It is a shame, I remember when Schlarman coached Newport they lost in OT late in the playoffs by an extra point to state runner-up Rockcastle Co. There is talent, but extenuating circumstances make it almost impossible unless you have a truly great one, and I doubt many great ones covet the Newport job.

I have to wonder who the candidates are for this job and how many of those still want the job.

A coach can't do in 4 months/year what parents couldn't do in 14 years plus. That whole situation is a mess. The community has let the school down just as much as the administration has.

Was told by someone from Newport on Saturday that coach would be named either today, tomorrow or Wednesday. Sent email to AD and principal this morning seeking confirmation and haven't heard back.
