It's really a shame. Believe it or not, there are a few kids on that team who work hard and really do care. They deserve better than this.

Heard they were waiting on FedEx to deliver the new coach to them this week. Maybe hes lost with my printer parts. :whistling:

I hope Skinner is right and the announcement comes today or tomorrow. Regardless , the AD and Principal have totally neglected this position and obviously have no idea what they are doing, or this position would have been filled months ago.

I dont think thats specifically fair. In a small district like Newport, teaching jobs are few and when at the point of the search, the district is not sure if what the open teaching spots will be for the next school year, its hard to bring in a new coach and get them on board and hope they have a teaching job. Newports past issues as a District dont help the situation either. Its better for Newports sake to find the right coach for their program and take an extra month or whatever, than just bring in the first person willing to do it.

I know for a fact that they have been pretty aggressive at asking people to put their names in. I think that this is that undesirable of a position.

Agreed, I think however coaches that apply are doing so very cautiously perhaps.

You don't have to be a teacher but most schools work really hard to make sure their head coaches are teachers. At Newport, I would especially want my head football and basketball coach to be in the school. It can have a bigger impact when the coach is a teacher.

I'd be willing to bet that amount budgeted is higher than 3 of the other 4 teams in Newport's district.:sssh:

Not sure what you mean here (never heard of a college minor in Coaching) Some school districts abide by the rule you have to have 64 semester hours of classes (or similar requirements for what it takes to be a substitute teacher in that district) before you can coach. In reality each district has their prerequisites to be a coach.

Correct some districts allow less than 64 hours, they just have you complete an "observation" program.
