Not sure what you mean here (never heard of a college minor in Coaching) Some school districts abide by the rule you have to have 64 semester hours of classes (or similar requirements for what it takes to be a substitute teacher in that district) before you can coach. In reality each district has their prerequisites to be a coach.

When I was teaching and coaching (Track) you had to have a minor in coaching along with what ever your major was to coach the big two. A knowledge of the sport was all it took for the another sports (are be a warm body like I was the year I coached soccer)

I was told that the Newport BOE had only budgeted for 5 coaches for middle school and high school what coach wants to deal with that?

 

I'd be willing to bet that amount budgeted is higher than 3 of the other 4 teams in Newport's district.:sssh:

 

At NewCath only the Head Coaches (varsity, jv, frosh) are paid a "small" stipend, everyone else are unpaid volunteers.
