Newport is 6-2, with an OT loss to rival Holmes, and a tough 5 pt loss to Campbell (also ranked in the state). How are they up & down? What am I missing? Games aren’t played on paper. Good win for Newport.

Predictions for: Ryle vs. Brossart? Newport vs. LexCath?

Brossart and Ryle should be a good game. Brossart plays everyone tough. Newport and LexCath have a shot at being any good? I know LexCath is ranked in the top 10.

Scott at 9 is an absolute joke.

Sounds like it! Woww. Heard Tyler Schreck played very well. The Camels are grinding them out and learning how to win late. That will help late in the season.

Osterbur looked good. Was actually 3/3 from 3 with 13 points. Was the leading scorer for the Cougars. Conner was 9/16 from FT line, not 3/12. Last shot from Craddock not really as close as in and out.... kind of a heave type shot. Hicks played tough and will get better. Simpson certainly helps, as well. Newport had an off Shooting night, shot worse from the line than Conner, and Burries was in foul trouble with 3 in 1st half. Fun game. Conner getting better. Coach O doing a good job with what he has right now.

4 games in 6 days is next to nothing for these kids nowadays. Most good players that play AAU May play 3 games in one day, or 6-8 games in 3 days. Looks like Brannen had a good game and Draud did his thing. Sounds like Newport shot lights out and lived more up to the preseason billing.

Crazy that this is a discussion 2 weeks into the year, but I guess all is fair in love and basketball. I think GRC turns it on. Still can believe PC gets NO love! Belcher is a great coach and gets the most out of his teams, imo.

In the State is a strong statement. Glad he’s playing so well, and we’ll see if he can continue the impressive run he’s on. Campbell has been known to have some solid, strong kids that can score and rebound.

Good early season contest. Cooper knows who their top dog is... who will Be Campbell’s go to player this season?

Did Beechwood get a couple of transfers? Thought I heard that. Will Draud get significantly varsity minutes?

Covcath Cooper Then who?? Newport top 5, doesn’t that make them a top in the 9th? Don’t just make a comment. Back it up. Who’s better? Newport returns top 5 or 6 players. Not saying their top 2, but 3-5 is reputable and makes them a top in the 9th.

I am told McGuire had 30+ for Newport... truth?? If so, huge step in the right direction for him. Ceiling is high. Burries is top 2-3 in the 9th for sure. I don’t understand how Allen doesn’t have more mid-high major offers. He is strong, fairly athletic, shares the ball, and just plays the game, and at a high level. Both of these two teams should be tops in their respective regions.

If correct, 2 kids combined for at least 52 of Newport's 65 points? Hopefully others can start to get involved.

If Ohmer can do what Ohmer does, and has done his whole career, Scott can play with anyone. If Harlan figures him out early, and contains him, it could be a long night for Scott. I hope the best for them! Coach Fromeyer does an awesome job.

That says a lot about the kid if they are 1-19 without him. Will one guy be enough to beat Cooper?? They are very well-rounded and balanced. If I can ask, who were the 2 losses to with Mr. Baker?

Did Fries play JV this year? Will there be a mass-exodus of talent before summers end, as has seemingly been the case in recent years? Talent is there to win, by feel like I say that every year. Losing Hawkins will be a BIG loss. But, look for Kelch to dominate the post next year!

Impressive for Meade to come out of the region with only 13 wins! Did they play a daunting schedule? Or, get hot at the right time? Either way, I'll take Cooper. Coach Sullivan has those boys right where they should be.

29 down in the 4th to comeback and win is very impressive!! Not sure I've ever heard of a steeper comeback. My question: why in South Dearbron in 2012, only 3 years after making 9th Region tourney with Beechwood?? What's is the back story? Just wanted to leave? A new challenge? Moved?

Yes. Cooper did show that zone. They showed flashes late in the season. I am SURE CCH was prepared. That said.... to beat a zone, you typically have to hit shots. That's didn't happen for an extended period of time.

When it comes down to it... Does this job belong to Stainforth if he wants it?
