Woww. I’m sure there will be excuses for the loss. But, that said, I know Boone is good. Also know Newport is good. CCH/Cooper 1 & 2. 3-5 is Newport, Boone, NCC in whatever order. Also, NewCath beat Scott tonight. Excellent win for them.

I knew it wouldn’t be long before we heard something like that. Such is life for any road team.

I agree with the previous post about schools firing coaches based on performance. It does seem to be rare. Why is that though? Is it because most/all those coaches are members of the school staff (teachers, etc.)?

Collins is a top team in the 8th Region, and this game was not a blowout. Close most of the game, according to people i talked to. Mayfield is a top 20 team in the state, and this also was not a blow out. 10-14 point games are a matter of a few possessions. "Blown off the floor" makes it seem like these were 20+ point losses. Not the case. In the case of Boone, they are sneaky good. I like them. They certainly have some bad losses, just like the Holmes loss for Newport. That said, Boone beat Cooper in Double OT at home, and Newport beat LexCath on a neutral floor. Newport also has inserted a Sophomore into the starting line-up and he has added quite a bit to the team, since the Boone game, and since the holiday tournament in Owensboro. Boone and Newport are arguable as for the 3rd team in the region. CCH/ Cooper are 1 and 2.

No Kunkel on Burries? Burries on Kunkel? That's the match-up everyone wants to see.

Have to disagree. Walton is tough. I think they beat Collins head to head in what would be an excellent game. Collins is nice, as they are well-coached and have a solid amount of talent, but I believe Walton is better.

Cooper will be very tough to beat at home. They beat Boone at home minus AK and Runion. I’ve heard what Cooper must do to win.... is there anything the Wildcats can do to win?

Also, sense there seems to be an anti-Newport sentiment feel to the rankings, I figure I’ll toss them some love, and say, Newport beat Bellevue 78-50 last week. Not 73-53. That was in the All A. That said, 1-2 may be locked right now, say unless Newport somehow wins tomorrow night at Cooper, but 3-5 is also a lock, Boone-Newport-NewCath, in whatever order. After the top 5, it’s a considerable dropoff, understanding that anyone can beat anybody on a given night. Thus, is why we play the games.

These rankings seem to be lacking more so than in the years past. Not sure what changed. The logic just doesn’t seem to make much sense.

I know anything can happen in any game, but how did this happen? Expected NCCto win this.

This is a kid who’s doesn't get his credit. Very solid.

I know this is a Senior only award, but someone said Reid Jolly, who is really good. But, the best junior in the 10th right now is Allen. I’ll leave it at that, as I know DA will have his shot next year.

Did AK play?

If we’re talking about the talent surrounding them, depth of roster, do Burries and Hall have to do more for their teams than CJ and AK? Burries: Pts/gm: 23 Rebs/gm: 7 3FG%: 36% FT%: 75% Hall: Pts/gm: 25 Rebs/gm: 3 3FG%: 39 FT%: 84 Would these guy say be able to perform at the supposed level of AK and CJ if they were in those teams? Could they be even better? Someone else mentioned strength of schedule, could these two, Hall and Burries, perform at just as high of a level against that competition?

Heard AK was pulled from game vs. Highlands for some reason. Some speculate rest, others say not playing to his normal level (which is HIGH). Any ideas as to why he won’t play? Is this a seed game? Doesn’t this district do the home & away games for district opponents?

2 things: -Newport Free Throw percentage worries you.... NewCath (who you’ll have 3rd) is approx. 68% from the FT stripe) Also, Newport- 71% NewCath- 68% Boone- 74% Cooper- 73% CCH- 79% CCH is the clear favorite if FTs are a sole contributor. Also, a Newport loss to Holmes in the 4th or 5th game of the year baffles you, but you’re willing to give Boone another week or 2? And, NCC is your 3rd when Boone beat them? Can’t we just say Cooper & CCH are clear 1/2, 3-5 is a distance behind, and 6-10 are interchangeable parts, with ability to potentially beat anyone. Seems simple.

Who did Newport lose to that they were supposed to beat? Holmes might be the only one, but that’s a rivalry... so, anything can happen. Newport beat LexCath straight up, all players available. In fact, understand they even had Heisenbuttel(?) back, who hadn’t played much. Newport lost to campbell in a really good, close game. They also lost to Collins who is a top team in the 8th and Mayfield who is a top team in the 3rd and potential favorite to win the All A. Those were toss up games with no real favorite. Newport also beat Boone head to head. That said, I won’t discredit Boone’s win over NCC, but missing Luken does matter. May not change the W/L outcome, but does change the layout of the game. Young man can play and play well. Boone is a solid team and certainly in the top 5 in my opinion. NewCath, Newport, and Boone are all capable of beating each other, probably. Cooper is the clear favorite right now, but CCH is certainly capable of beating them. CCH has beaten Moeller and Pickerington Central, 2 of Ohio’s beat teams, so to say they are second in the region tells me that Cooper and the region is pretty tough. I’ll be interested to see how Boone fairs against Cooper this week.

Yeesh. Didn’t see that coming. I think Moeller is a better team than Scott County, just as I think CCH is, but 19 points sounds like a whoopin’. We know how good Hayes is/can be, but Davenport is really nice, as well.

The 9th Region rankings thread predicts district winners.... any thoughts/predictions in district championship games and winners?

Are the district winner predictions based on anything other than guessing? Or, is it based upon W/Ls, Head to Head matchups, or what has been observed?

A lot of talk about Cooper and CCH meeting 2 more times... is that second time really a foregone conclusion? If so, does that speak to the weakness of the 9th Region (which has recently been a really good Region), or the greatness of Cooper & CCH? Not a single sleeper, eh? Last year this was supposed to be an epic 9th Region final and... it was underwhelming at best.

CovCath played 2 of the top 5 teams in the state and lost.... When the top 5 teams lock horns anything can happen. Heck, anything can happen when any two teams lock up. CovCath will be in the conversation come Region time, in a tough 9th Region.

Any updates on games in this tourney? Is it over?

Hearsay, Rankin had a sprained ankle. He makes a big difference in the game, but Brossart is a tough team, and well coached.

Mason County is tough, and it seems like Highlands played them tough. Highlands will only get better.
