Hopefully a bust-out game for the Brossart Mustangs.

Ryle did play without the services of Vince Rankin their leading scorer (20ppg) and rebounder (10 rpg), which obviously negated some of the Raiders' offense and rebounding.

Brossart led from the opening tip, running out to a 13-6 first quarter lead and a 28-15 advantage at halftime, while limiting the Raiders to merely four field-goals in the first half.

The beat went on in the second half as the Mustangs outscored their opponents 18-11 in the third and 17-11 in the fourth period to post the 63-41 win over the 6A visitors from Union.

The Mustangs advance to face the Newport Wildcats in a rematch of our opening night 52-49 loss to the Cats in Stan Arnzen Gymnasium. That game will be played on Friday night at 7pm.

Why did Rankin not play?

No Rankin speaks volumes but congrats to the Stangs for handling they business.

Hearsay, Rankin had a sprained ankle. He makes a big difference in the game, but Brossart is a tough team, and well coached.

Hoosiers!

Was this the smallest school in NKY beating the largest?

Spoke to ‘Laser’ (aka Rankin’s dad) after the game. He said he is not sure of the severity of the sprain. Hopes to have him back in a week.

Nah, Silver Grove is the smallest.

Brossart, although small they are well coached and always a tough team.

For the record, Newport defeated Brossart 62-59, and not 52-49 back on opening night, as I reported.

Same difference, but inaccurate reporting off of the top of my head.

You draw up the commitment papers and I'll sign them.
