I heard rumblings of this. Anyone have any scoop ?

Trinity is going to keep the pace up for at least another year. St. X, while late to the gate, seems to now get it and will continue to schedule 2-3 games against out of state each year. Manual too. Highlands has historically gone across the border to play perceived superior competition and always done quite well (Ohio). Some of the small schools in Eastern, Southern and Western KY always play cross border rivals. I say that the stats speak for themselves for X, T and Highlands.

I like the big Soph. Hayden Ford. I remeber him at Saint MM and he could play. Last year as a freshman, he took the team down the field against Highlands like a real leader. He broke his foot halfway through the first quarter and that was pretty much it for the rest of the years. This year, the same luck breaking his hand at the beginning of his JV year. He got in late against Nelso and ran a couple of plays. He had gained speed and confidence. I will be looking forward to seeing him come out next summer. He will be competing for the starting QB spot.

This one ended about like I thought. I am still trying to figure out this Manual team and what happened against the Rocks the first time they played. They are loaded and very sizable. Remind me a bit of Moeller. Hope that they can give Trinity a good game this week.

the courier is a pathetic rag. Not so much all about Trinity, just that they cannot cover any additional games without any beat writers. Additionally, you can put quite a bit of blame on the St. X staff whom seldom reports any stats or related info to anyone for some absurd reason. When it does get reported it is generally incorrect (wrong players mentioned throughout, incorrect names and figures). St. X can't even report the stats correctly to the KHSAA website (kind of important dont you think). It is pathetic to have to go to another city's paper (Bowling Green, Cincinnati) to find out if your team won or lost. Best bet is actualy Louisville CatholicSPorts.net..

It really is quite simple and once again it has only taken us 10 games to figure it out. There is certainly nothing wrong with the Tigers Skill Players. What is wrong is the old fashioned, Mike Glaser, easy to predict offense. Power I (when all you do is dive), and I think I saw a Wishbone...... do not work now and have not worked for 10 years. It is not too hard for good teams to figure out what to do in the second half against the Tigers (i.e. Trinity, Bowling Green and Riverdale for sure). In all three of those losses, The Tigers were either up or in the game and simple halftime adjustments and changes by the opponents made all of the difference. The second half, the coaches elected to play not to lose against Bowling Green. Walker had 65 yards at half and got 2 carries in the second (Nothing was wrong with him) Riverdale just simply put 10 in the box and dared Mattingly to scramble. Trinity is a bit different. They have soem much speed it would have taken quite a bit of luck and skill to put an L on them. But again, very predictable offensive scheme and play calling put the Tigers in a hole quick. You have to assume Trinity scores everytime they touch the ball. You have to get first downs and take the ball our of their hands.

Moeller is big and strong not so much speed driven. They will remind you of Cincy X . Trinity O line is probably the key We know about Dawkins and Quick speed. Moeller also has a big time wide receiver, Medaris (kind of a hybrid between a TE and WR). Overall, Trinity has just too much size and speed. Trinity: 42 Moeller 28

This is true and he looked good. He has the speed and quickness, and more importantly patience, to stay home and tackle. Walker and Moore now tailback tandem, with Sloan at FB when Power I..... Clemons did play a bit at the TB spot later in the game, but it was clearly with the 2's...

Early tough schedule and conditioning prove to be too much for the Crimsons. Manual has too many kids going both ways and X is able to stay fresh. Final: Tigers 35 Crimsons 10 (If stud back plays add 10 more, but I hear it is day to day)

As am I. Manual seems to be the team to beat outside of Trinity, however. As an X fan, I am looking forward to comments and comparisons after next weekend. !

There is no doubt that Trinity is clearly the better team. St. X just could not afford to have anything go wrong at all and things did (most notably in the first half): 1. fumble on the 1-touchback T 2. missed field goal 3. missed extra point 4. Penalties (more of the same)-Very discouraging, although the personal foul call against #48 was pitiful. In every loss this season, much of the same as noted above (Riverdale,Moeller and Bowling Green). Against teams like this YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE PLAYS. But aganst Trinity YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE PLAYS TO STAY IN THE GAME. They are quite the talent. Would any of the above changed the outcome ? Who will ever know, but I would venture to say that it would have made the second half even more interesting

Madaris is a big Physical receiver almost like a hybrid WR/TE. Having Oliver in the line up could have made a difference (especially on the seond play from scrimmage where her caught a 70 yarder over our back-up's/back-up, but he lit X up for 200+ yards. Quick seems to score virtually every time he touches the ball from all over the place. He is probably more effective closer to the line of scrimmage than Madaris. Both are evtremely talented, no way to really compare them exactly.

Actually a very compeitive game. Both teams played a number of juniors. Trinity Quaterback Bonafon is very talented. Big plays in the first half-blown coverages on both sides lead to both scores. In the second half, a bit of hte same-Big plays, with some blown defenses played right into Trinity's hands. Their play calling on offense was superior to X's For Trinity, QB Bonafon really stood out. D line was strong-mostly jr's. For St. X. Will Roshkowski showed some nice determination and speed. He will be factor during his career. X O-line was All Sophomores. They are big and will continue to improve, but struggled with the trinity Dline late. Reallly a very close game until mid 4th quarter.

this is correct. Now predictions.... unlike the majority of opinions on this board relative to the Varsity Match Up (running clock, 70-0, etc, etc) most out there feel that these two games are too close to call. go out and watch.. as they should be really competitive matchups and very good games.

85 - you are reading way too much into this. I think the only analogy here is that Glaser feels like he is playing a D2 team on Friday. We are talking talent and nothing else. Believe what you want.

And Central's boosters have the best fried fish sandwiche West of town. I think it was Jack Salmon but I know it was delicious..

I agree with you comment. What was Undisciplined about Central ? St. x had at least 40 more yards in stupid penalties to Central's 5. Are we talking about trash talking or disrepect ? I saw none or heard none of that . Nothing but mutual respect from my standpoint. It is a great rivalry and Central just appears to be snake bit.

X grew up on Friday. The game could not have started out worse. Down 14-0 with time still remaining in Q1. they sucked it up and held on and made the second half into a game. the score is not an indicator of how close this game was to going the other way. without Mattingly on Friday, the Central game will be closer than it should be. Oliver will be back (had Strep). He is by far X's best DB and could have made a huge difference against Moeller and that stud receiver. Mattingly's MRI on his ankle came back negative, which is a great sign.

The underclassmen arguments do not hold any water. I will go out on a limb and predict that this years St. X JV squad will NOT lose a game ! That includes playing Trinity and without Walker (he probably will not see a JV game). Remind you that the last years Freshmen, now JV's went 5-5 with losses to Central, LaSalle, Ballard, Trinity and Highands. The Sophomore class is quite talented and LARGE. X probably will not run the 4-2-5 tonight. Also, I have heard that they are just about ready to scrap it anyway. Too many botched assignmens. Brando Moore is back healthy again, so now we have two of our three tailbacks healthy and ready. Clemons doubtful still nursing high ankle sprain. He will dress, however.

I agee with this assessment, and having ready through the above, was a litle too harsh in criticizing the coaching. "Poor Coaching" was not the correct description "Too Few Coaches" would be more accurate. While I did disagree with most of the play calling (i.e. Central game with quick pitches for 20 yard losses-when you have second and goal on the 5; Ballard no huddle "Wildcat" with 30 seconds left to go in the game-should have brought that out way earlier in the game; I think that the whole gist of the coaching issue is when you have 110 new faces and only 5 coaches to handle them. Additionally, it is my understanding that these poor coaches are barely paid for their work ? My comments are more about the overall set up and perhaps the need for more coaches, perhaps an A and B team like many of the Cincinnati area schools.
