In the grand scheme to make a profit you don't believe that competion is available in the same town? I live in NKY and believe me competion is available for my employees. May not be the exact industry that I am but skills are transferable. If I'm an accountant or a Manager at P&G my skills are transferrable to another company? Come on! You are better than that. Play like a champion! Maybe that's why your stuck in the job you are. You fail to realize your skills are transferrable.

I agree. It's called competition. If I am the best manager at the widget factory and I'm not being compensated accordingly chances are that I can take my skill set to the other widget factory in town. It's a little theory known as supply and demand.

But the other "perk" of the job is to get a leg up. Most first promotions from an hourly associate to an exempt associate are just that, a way to get a leg up and get your foot in the door. If you are only taking the job because of the money that will more than likely not work out for you. How long did you stay in that role? Did it help get your foot in the door? Did you gain experience to help in another role? If so then you were compensated more than dollars. Remember, your employer took a chance on an unproven worker as well. They shared equal risk.
