Springtime in Paris can be a wonderful thing. Espcecially if you wear green and it's St. Patrick's Day. Just ask the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart who traveled south today for their annual pre-season scrimmage with Bourbon County in Paris, Ky. The Lady Colonels of Bourbon Co. are considered by many to challenge Montgomery Co. as the top team in the 10th Region this year, especially with George Rogers Clark in a youth movement and mostly a new pitching staff. Today a young Bishop Brossart team gave notice that they should be in the conversation as a top team again. They haven't rebulit they have just reloaded AGAIN. They beat Bourbon County 8-3 in a game they led from beginning to end. “We like playing top competition,” says new Bishop Brossart Head Coach Tom Baynum. “These scrimmages will only make us better and help us to learn where we are at. The big thing is to work on things.” They actually had an offer to go to Ryle had the game been rained out in Paris. The Lady 'Stangs found out they could bunt and hit in the clutch. They batted 1.000 in bunt attempts Saturday and .750 in rbi situations with two out. That was huge. They started their attack against Bourbon Co. ace Haley Wagner in the third when senior Taylor Hardy lined a single to right and was replaced by pinch runner Caroline Woeste. Shannon Kremer then beat out an infield bunt attempt before Tricia Kramer beat out an infield hit to score Woeste. Erica Riedeman then laid down a perfect bunt and a throwing error plated Kremer. Following a walk to cleanup hitter Gretchen Trumbo, senior Molly Williams blasted a shot thru the middle to make it 4-0 Brossart. Later that inning Bourbon would get within one scoring three and making it 4-3. Hannah Wagner and Candace Green had nice hits for the Lady Colonels. However the fifth would see Brossart returning the favor by scoring four more. Freshmen pitcher Karlie Shackelford and sophomore thirdbaseman Gretchen Trumbo opened the inning with a hits. Williams followed with a double to score two and then sophomore shortstop singled and it was 7-3. Emily Greis reached on a fielders choice and then moments later Kremer lined her second hit of the game to right to make it 8-3. Greis was playing in her sister Maria's place who was out today. Maria was the team's cleanup hitter in the first scrimmage. Bishop Brossart had 8 hits, three perfect bunts, hit in the clutch and played near flawless defense. Shackelford turned in a second solid performance in the preseason keeping the Bourbon hitters off stride by scattering 5 hits over 7 innings and striking out 5. In fourteen pre-season innings she has shown great control hitting her spots and walking only one batter. While the early season game means little in the standings playing good teams does make you prepared. The Reds' Dusty Baker said today “Preseason is training for a reason. It's training.” On a beautiful day in Paris the training seems to have paid off. Now it's time for the regular season. :ylsuper:

I haven't been on much lately but just wanted to wish Coach Dawn well. He has done a fabulous job in whatever job he has done. Good Luck in a well deserved retirement. I know he will continue to serve us in his role on the KHSAA Board of Control where he will continue to deliver the Private School voice. :clap:

We have a parent meeting before the year at Bishop Brossart and require each family to send at least one parent to go over the conduct and expectation of our kids and parents. We have minimal issues but it seems to help and at least let everyone know where the school stands. If the kid has an issue they should take it to the coach first, then if that doesn't work mom/dad should schedule a private meeting with the coach to calmly discuss and finally then bring the AD in for a meeting with the coach. And after all they ARE 2-0 so it can't be all bad regardless of the competition. My thoughts anyway. Good Luck to Coach Kitchen and her team

Brossart is lucky to get her. Both her and Mary Kay Reilly pitched well today for Bishop Brossart.

That score is correct. The Brossart jv team beat Simon 5-1. It was a good scrimmage between two good teams You don't get better without playing the good teams. Coach Baynum will do a fantastic job.

How did your daughter play today?

Good Luck to NCC and Highlands as they get to deal with St. Henry, Notre Dame and etc this year while Bishop Brossart will take their chances in the 10th. The 37th District voted to seed their District as the state should require anyway. They also voted to make all District Seed games 3 out of 5.

NINE Regional Championships for Nell Fookes. She now has almost 200 more wins than the all time boys leader Ken Shields. Quite a Story. No other boys or girls basketball coach in the 9th Region has ever won more than five. Congratulations.

That proposal did fail. Some proposals that are passed even have to go thru four steps and are ultimately vetoed or stopped later. The Delegate Assembly passes it, then it goes to the Board of Control, then the State Board of Education and then finally the Legislative Committee to make sure it is legal. Any of those can stop a proposal. The policy at BBHS for kids playing up on any of the high school teams includes a provision that states they MUST be on a direct feeder school to Brossart. So, no one other than kids at St. Joseph (Cold Spring), St. Joseph (Camp Springs), St. Philip, Sts. Peter @ Paul, or St. Mary are allowed to play up at the school. Hopoe that clears up those items

Regardless of the name on here the author has used throughout the years he has lost all credibility when he/she makes statements that are not based in fact. Statements that attempt to belittle or tear down a team are not traits that one should be proud of. The bottom line is this...Bishop Brossart's girls basketball program has enjoyed a tremendous season in which their accomplishments continue to be a year ahead of schedule. The young team, with no seniors, has advanced above expectations with an equal chance win the 10th Region. A minor upset and bump last night (With three injured players and one very sick) does not diminish nor take away from the accomplishments of the season body of work. Apparently almost all the coaches agree by naming Coach Feldmann as “Coach of the Year” in both Northern Kentucky and the Tenth Region. So far this season, his young team has recorded a 25-7 record while playing a tough schedule (15 opponents with at least 15 wins, a tough Christmas Tourney, Boone Co., NCC Twice, Montgomery Co, St. Henry, Highlands, Lou. Holy Cross, Harlan, Defending 10th Region All “A” Champs St. Patrick (twice) and many others.) They played 5 of the 6 teams in the tenth region with winning records this year. They have the second best region record (12-3) and have scored the second most points (1711) of any team in the tenth region. The won the NKAC with a 7-1 record finishing ahead of NCC, St. Henry, Highlands, Holmes, Holy Cross and others. The had the top seed in the 37th District (4-0). They won the All “A” Tenth Region Championship. They finished in the top three and reached the semifinals of the All “A” State. By the way they had defeated two of the semifinalists and had scrimmaged the other during the regular season. Their junior varsity team and freshmen team both won the 37th District Championship which bodes well for the future considering the number of seniors the other teams in the District lose. You also have to factor in they have everyone back next year on varsity and they have one of the top 8th grade groups ever coming in next year. Although they were upset in the District final, they may have gotten a potentially better draw for the Region considering the upsets in District play. They have beaten (Campbell Co., Harrison Co., Deming, Bracken Co. (Twice), and Mason Co. They did not play Clark Co. And lost to Montgomery Co. By ten in a game that was much closer and tied at the half. Those are the teams that will make up the 10th Region Tourney right here in BBHS's backyard. They also played Boone. Co., St. Henry, Holmes, NCC (twice), and Highlands that will make up the field for the 9th Region Tournament. So those are the FACTS not opinions or statements made out of frustration. Whatever the fate is for the remaining of the year it has been an incredible and well earned season for the Lady 'Stangs and Bishop Brossart. And to think they may be a year or two away from being their best. Scary

Would assume Carroll would pitch but that is up to the new coach. She may have a different view about the pitcher and catcher. I thought their senior catcher though is back Glahn maybe?

Madison is like what someone said about Pete Rose once "She is one of the few I'd pay to see play>" I truly think she plays as hard as any athlete I have ever seen play male or female. She always gives everything she is capable of giving. Not many can say that. At the same time she is fun to watch especially on defense.

In addition to winning a berth in next week's Region Tournament, the 25-6 Lady 'Stangs received some major honors today from two different organizations. Coach Josh Feldmann, who followed up last year's 19-10 record with a 25-6 mark so far this year has been named the 10th Region "Coach of the Year" by the 10th region Girls Coaches Association and was also recognized as the Northern Kentucky Girls Basketball Coaches Association "Coach of the Year" in Division II. Division II was a stacked division this year with a number of top teams including St. Henry, Highlands, Newport Central Catholic, Holy Cross and Holmes. It was an impressive double feat and one well deserved. "I am very honored and very proud to receive these awards. I'm humbled. However great players make successful coaches and we have a lot of great young players here at Bishop Brossart. This is a team effort and awards like these mean our team is successful," pointed out Feldmann who is now 44-16 in two seasons. Two Bishop Brossart players have received nice honors as well. Sophomore Sarah Futscher, the team's leading rebounder and scorer has been tabbed as a First Team selection by both the 10th Region Girls Coaches Association and First Team Division II by the Northern Kentucky Girls Basketball Coaches Association. Quite an honor to be recognized as a sophomore by both organizations. Sophomore Abby Stadtmiller has been recognized by the 10th Region Girls Coaches Association as Honorable Mention. Again a great honor for a sophomore player. The NKAC is currently tabulating All Conference ballots to announce their All Star Teams in early March. The Lady 'Stangs so far have enjoyed a great season winning 25 games, secured a spot in the District Finals, secured a spot in the 10th Region Tourney, won the Touchstone 10th Region All "A" Title, finished 3rd in the Touchstone All "A" State Championships, won the Crosstown Shootout 53-42 with Campbell County, finished third in the Owensboro Invitational and last week clinching the NKAC Division II Championship (7-1) ahead of NCC (6-2) and St. Henry (6-2). Congratulations to Sarah, Abby and Coach Feldmann.

Wyatt Earp managed to serve his entire career as a peacemaker without taking a bullet. Even though at times a spirited effort by the Lady Eagles of Scott made the Lady 'Stangs feel they might be at the OK Corral, in the end all was well. Like Wyatt Earp they dodged a bullet. Bishop Brossart rallied to fight back a determined Scott attempt 54-52 in the opening round of the 37th District at Campbell Co. Middle School. When the smoke has cleared Brossart (25-6) had won their third straight berth in the 10th Region Tourney while Scott finished (5-28) on the season. It was the old “trap game” many call it, where you are playing someone that has a non impressive record and looking ahead to the finals and your crosstown rival. The game saw16 lead changes and 9 ties. Early Scott made some runs leading 16-14 after the first quarter. Brossart battled back to tie it at 27-27 at intermission. Things started to get scary in the third quarter as the Lady Eagles went ahead on a Taylor Stinson jumper 34-27 with 4:06 remaining. Brossart though pulled within two by the end of the third quarter and set the stage for last quarter heroics. They took the commanding lead at 51-44 and held on despite being outshot 50% to 28% for the game from the floor. Sophomore Madison Eisenmann gave the team a huge spark tonight playing just 15:26 but scoring 13 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, handing out 2 assists and rattling the Scott defense with 9 steals. Junior Maria Greis came up huge also for the Lady 'Stangs with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Futscher grabbed 12 points and had 6 rebounds while dishing out 3 assists and gabbing in 3 steals. The swarming Brossart defense was a big factor again forcing Scott into 29 turnovers while committing just 12. Junior Rachel Hartig chimned in with 6 points and 6 of the steals. The team had 28 steals. Bishop Brossart had a 15-13 edge in free throws, a 13-7 advantage in points off turnovers, and a 15-9 lead in points off the bench. They both battled to a 39-39 tie on the boards. The 'Stangs will now take on the Campbell County/Calvary Christian winner Thursday night at 7 PM. Ole Wyatt would have been proud.

Pete Rose named George Foster "Yahtzee" because it was German for George. At least thats what he thought. Thats one of the tidbits we learned today as 1977 National League MVP and former Big Red Machine Member George Foster stole the show with his comments and humor. Foster was joined by Reds' Announcers Chris Welsh, Jeff Piecoro and Jim Kelch in helping the school raise funds for the BBHS Tuition Assistance Program. Foster and the trio talked about Reds topics and mixed in humor in the two hours they spent interacting with the fans in Hegenauer Hall. They answered questions from the crowd as well. Foster was outspoken about many issues. The topics were all the hot stories of the day. How will Aroldis Chapman be used? Will Chris Heisey play everyday? What will be the starting rotation? Will Scott Rolen play more? Is Homer Bailey finally ready to step it up. Foster likes Chapman as a reliever while most of the others feel he will be a starter but maybe start the year at Louisville. Most all felt Heisey should get the start and chance however they like Ryan Ludwick as a good hitter. The word is Scott Rolen is healthy and ready to play and George Foster indicated he was using Yoga as he did in the old days. "We couldn't say we were using yoga in those days though," he laughed. Chris Welsh said he is encouraged that Homer ha sput on about 16 pound sof upper body muscle which he feels will help him from having as many shoulder weakness issues. It all points to a good year for the Reds.

KHSAA Delegate Assembly did change last year to a flat 30 games. Eliminating that silly 21 plus two tourney stuff

Just for the record....Bishop Brossart has used the same varsity roster of 12 players all year. Four juniors and eight sophomore. There are no freshmen or seniors on the young roster. The junior varsity has a few juniors, mostly sophomores and for most of the year three freshmen "dress" jv after the freshmen games are over. The freshmen team has been 5 freshmen and five eighth graders all year. Only in the final few games when the freshmen regional was over did a few more dress for those final jv games. Brossart has been very consistent in this unlike others who dropped freshmen varsity starters down to play in the freshmen tournaments etc.
