Recommended Posts

The Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs junior varsity basketball team roared back from an 11 point deficit to beat Campbell County to win the 37th District Junior Varsity Championship held at Scott today. The final score was Bishop Brossart 50, Campbell County 47 in overtime. More details to follow.

Only the varsity remains now and so far Bishop Brossart has won the 37th District Boys and Girls Freshmen titles and now this week defeated Scott 57-29 to win the boys JV Title and the girls beat Campbell Co. tonight to make it 4 out of 4 so far. Congratulations Lady 'Stangs

They have titles for Freshman and JV? Are they honorary? You puttin' up a banner? Can't wait for more details as promised, after all I'm payin 5 cents a day to talk about all those important games that start at 5pm.

I have a question - if BBHS has an intrasquad scrimmage - white v green - does BGH post if white wins, or only if green wins? Will the losing team "basically" win, to use BGH logic?

I'm guessing that BlueKrush skipped over playing Freshman and JV ball....or maybe never played the game at all. Just a reminder that every game, for every level, is important to someone, regardless.....It is impressive that 1 school has so far captured these titles, and yes, they are titles, as the games themselves are designated as championship. So BK, it's not a mythical championship, it is THE CHAMPIONSHIP for that level of play...important for Freshman, and important for JV....for you, I'm guessing it is just jealousy....work harder in the off season and you too can report out wins for your team.....good luck to you and yours in the post season...:sssh:

Winning the Freshman or JV Championship is an extremely skewed result because any talented 9th or 10th grader would already be up on the Varsity at most schools. Any number of teams could easily win this title at the Frosh or JV level if they had their best players play on only the Frosh or JV team. It is not a predictor of future success.

I agree with Birdbrain. I don't post often but, I love seeing local schools do well. It is one thing to have an issue with the way BGH posts but, don't take it out on the kids who are working hard every day and giving it all they have. I am the parent of one of those freshman/jv players. Should I tell him to not try because it is it is not varsity? I think not. BK, go find another thread to spread your negative comments.

:cool:They don't bother me. I know who they are so with me it's always just "consider the source." I think they go over the line though when they make fun of the kid or the accomplishment. Varsity is at a different level than jv and freshmen however it means a lot to the coaches and players regardless of the level of play. It is usually someone bitter, someone having issues or someone fired in the past so they try to be "big" by posting here as their only way of trying to be important. When i post.... I post positive game info on our games. If I choose to post only on wins thats my choice. It is America, a free country. This is not a job or I don't work for BGP. I post positive game reports. Losses to me are not positive. Good luck to everyone is post season.

You are wrong. It may be skewed a small amount but not, "extremely" as you say. There are many reasons why you are incorrect.

First of all, not all quality 9th graders get pulled up to Varsity. Some schools have a deep and heavy senior class that does not allow those ninth graders to play varsity. (I know of a few where this is the case)

Secondly, even in times when the ninth graders are pulled up to JV/Varsity, the freshmen team can then be filled with very good 8th and even 7th graders. I know at SK, WV, and Highlands, this is the case and all three of those schools had very quality freshmen teams. SK and Highlands duked it out in the freshmen 9th region championship a couple of weeks ago with Highlands coming out on top. SK had 3 8th graders and a 7th grader that started through out the season and Highlands had at least 2 8th graders. So yes, their freshmen have been pulled up, but these teams were beating everyone else with heavy middle school representation on their freshmen roster. This is definitely a good predictor of future success, when you are winning with your younger players.

Finally and last of all, some teams will let those quality, pulled up freshmen that usually don't play freshmen join and play freshmen just for the regional tournament. (I guess it means something to the coaches, players and program to go after the freshmen regional championship) That being said, for the season it may be skewed somewhat, but for the tournament it is not. (I know SK had at least one fresh. girl that played JV/Varstiy all year, but played in the freshmen tournament.)

All of these are strong reasons why it is not "extremely" skewed and why it is a good predictor for future potential.

How many girls did they pull from their varsity to play? They are always good about doing this.

If you are asking about SK, I know there was at least one. There could have been another, but I am not for sure. The one that I know of had played only JV and some Varsity minutes through the season until this tournament.

U r kinda makin my point for me - that if you really want to win a JV or Freshman tourney you can stack a team - pull players up or down. Will that team be a true representation of the talent you have at that level? If you stack and win and the others don't, what does that prove?
