Volleyball Three Out Of Five

Recommended Posts

What does everyone think about the new 3 out of 5 for varsity volleyball. I think most will opt for 2 out of 3 with the 3 out of 5 reserved for big matches. I think playing 3 out of 5 will be hard for a small school. :idunno:

I think this is a great change and you should see most programs keep the 3 game matches at the begining of the season and evolve into the best of 5 format toward the end of the season and tournament runs.

Could be a long night if both JV and Varsity play 3 out of 5 and they are both competitive matches. I like it specifically for the big matches though and for varsity only. Would also be good to use late in the year to get ready for district and regional tournaments.

This finally get Ky in line with most states. From what I understand JV will still be best of 3 to 20, with the third game to 15 ( a few points shorter) and freshman games will only be to 15. I think games where long travel is involved is where teams will opt for the best of three format. At least the games will be longer than prepare warmups!!

What does school size have to do with it? How is it harder for a small school??? If you meant it will be harder for an underdog to beat a favorite, you are correct - simple math/logic suggests that if you lengthen the "playing field" there's less chance of an upset. Like a 5 game playoff series vs 7. St. Henry and NCC are both small schools that can beat anyone anytime - enrollment size is not an issue.

I hate to agree with this moron -but he is right. This wont have any effect large or small scools. The big time programs use them in league play and big tournaments. This a good change that will do all schools good.

School size isnt an issue.

Your use of the term moron is incorrect. Calling me a moron implies that I'm a simpleton, a imbecile, a ignoramus. I clearly know what I'm doing, and I am right more than not - you just don't always agree with my viewpoint.

Plus, calling me a moron but then agreeing with me makes you a ??

I don't agree with any of your view points, but that is the beauty of an open-forum. Dont have to. The word filter will not allow me to express the correct term for you on here.

Since you being "Right" consisted of picking the strongest teams out of a weak region, and then picking one of the strongest teams in the nation to win the state title (and cowardly insulting the rest of the state programs). You going to man up and give us your predictions for next year? Or just wait to pile on each of your NDA/NCC victories? I am sure you are loved by each of those programs.

Ha - rest assured I'm loved by no one, since I have no connection to any program - I just call it as I see it. You want Volleyball predictions? That's easy . . KY volleyball is very predictable:

Region 10 - Bishop Brossart will win Region 10 in 2012. They have good talent in the pipeline and many returning starters. Camp Co. losing too much to graduation. No one from Dist 38, 39 or 40 has the talent to compete with BBHS.

Region 9 - Forget about NCC - they are done for years. Graduated everyone. 3 way race between NDA, St. Henry, and Ryle. 3 talented teams in the same region, doesn't seem right only 1 will go to state. St. Henry will have to win now with 2 best players as Seniors. Ryle is the only public school in state with a legit shot at becoming state champ in the next 2 years. But in the end, I think NDA will win Region 9 in 2012.

Regions 1-5, 8, and 11-16 - history has proven that for 32 years and counting, it doesn't matter who wins those Regions, they will not win State.

The stupid blind draw state brackets will randomly fix themselves this year after last year's debacle so we actually get decent late round match-ups at State. Assumption will win state again in 2012, with NDA as runner-up. But NDA will win state in 2013. You heard it here first.

You just won some big points in my opinion. However, I am not so sure that the blind-draw format will lend the best late round match-ups that everyone would expect. (Although I am a supporter of the blind-draw format).
