  1. It seems quite apparent that East Carter has a new energy about them with Coach C taking over. It is good to see them competing like they used to. RaiderPride5 mentioned a gameplan of containing Brown...well, I'd just like to say that is easier said than done. East at home will help in this one, but West should have enough to win this one. I think it will be by two touchdowns. East is getting better every week, and that's all that a coach can ask for. This will be a good game!
  2. I honestly think that JC and Ashland are on a different level. That being said, you can't say enough about the strides that Greenup has made. Their defense is very aggressive and the offense is good enough to win them some games. Greenup is on the rise. Coach Mullins is doing it the right way.
  3. If you have proof of these two accusations, then report them to the KHSAA. That's the only way to get something done about it. Just posting on here does nothing. I do not know Coach Hilton. I am not going to pass judgment on him...however, if in fact he is guilty of these things then something should have happened to him a long time ago. As coaches we look for advantages all the time, but to cheat, well, that is crossing the line. If someone cheats they should be held accountable for their actions. This can only happen if people have the testicular fortitude to do the right thing and turn the guilty parties in.
  4. Only 5 seniors on a team with 34 on the roster. Yep, i'd say "fairly young" was a good assessment.
  5. It was nice to see that Bracken got the win Friday night. My brain tells me that Ludlow should win this one, but my gut says that Bracken pulls off the upset. Good to see Coach Sizemore having success with this still fairly young team. It will always be an uphill battle to get kids to come out and play at Bracken, but success goes a long way to making that hill not so steep. Good luck Polar Bears. BC 22 Ludlow 20
  6. I just want to say that for anyone doubting Raceland's ability to get as deep in the playoffs, if not deeper, you are absolutely incorrect. I know for a fact that we didn't bring our A-game saturday, but it wouldn't have mattered. Raceland is in late-season form. We are building our program in the hopes to be as successful as Raceland someday. For anyone that wasn't at the game, their dominance on the OL and DL was impressive. The only good that came out of it for us is that we know now how much better we need to be. It was definitely a wake-up call for us. As for the game this week between Raceland and West, I think Raceland wins comfortably, but West will not give in and will not go away without a fight...that's just the way Coach Brown's players always are. Hats off to Raceland...should be a good year for you!
  7. I would bet that Alexander should be at the top of this list...however, I never saw him play. A name not mentioned yet is Darrell Cross, RB from Rowan County in 2009. He made our defense look like swiss cheese.
  8. Lewis County High School in Vanceburg. Thanks fellas.
  9. I know this forum is comprised of people that are close to each program they represent and they know of the tight-knit bonds that make up a football team. We try to obliterate each other on Friday nights, but more often than not, we all get along well any other time. One of our current seniors, Jakob Cooper, was in a terrible 4-wheeler accident last night and is in critical condition. He might have weighed 190 lbs., but he was one of our most competitive Offensive Linemen. He was "undersized" his entire playing career, but played so much bigger than he was. If you get a chance today, send some prayers his way. Thank you.
  10. Not bad. Considering we have several that play baseball and track, we are not having less than we typically do this time of year. We obviously would want more, but the kids we do have are getting some good work in. Should help our depth this year.
  11. Seniors that were 2 and 3 year starters playing ahead of them.
  12. This is a great opportunity for some kids to step up and show what they've got. Several of these kids could have started last year. Expectations are high in Vanceburg!
  13. Well said Coach B. Not many coaches are as fortunate as you are to leave on your own terms and see one of your guys take over where you left off. It's safe to say that there are many coaches jealous of your situation...at the same time...they are especially happy that it is someone as deserving as you.
  14. This is the exact reason I voted yes. I think coaches should be in the hallways. The kids should see them everyday. Currently I teach at the Middle School, and don't see the HS players during the day. The only coach at the HS is our head coach. I know he would rather there be more coaches in the building. Just because they teach Driver's Ed or ISS or whatever, it doesn't mean they aren't having a positive impact on the players and other students as well. The more coaches in the building the better for the program!
  15. Wow. Didn't know that Brossart and Berea were in the same district...talk about a long haul. Two hours on a bus...good times. Pendleton Co. moved into our district and we thought that was a long bus ride...not anymore! I'd say the move back to 1A will be good. Good luck to BBrossart this year.
  16. Congrats Coach Thomas. You are deserving and I think you will do well! Good Luck this year.
  17. I see your point as well. If I had a choice between going 10-20 with a team that is full of quality young men or going 30-0 with questionable kids that are super athletes, I would choose 10-20 every time. Winning is important, but at what cost. If a school would fire me because of my record only, then it is quite obvious that I do not belong at that school. My second year as an assistant at Powell County we went 1-9. They could not have been better students. Quality kids over quantity of wins.
  18. So what about High School coaches that go on to coach at the College level? The same can be said about the time commitment. Just because a coach has coached Middle School football, doesn't mean he can't succeed at the High School level.
  19. If anyone, as a coach, feels that it is too much for them to handle, then they don't have to do it. In fact, you can unofficially help the cause by just making your players aware of the negative impact bullying has on kids. Fair or not, football players are looked up to more than the kid that will be the next Einstein. The way they handle themselves carries a lot of weight. Their "voice" can be heard by many students. Even if it is just modeling compassionate behavior, other kids will pick up on it. There's not one single school in this state that is not impacted by bullying. If you keep just one kid from getting bullied, wouldn't you say that is a success?
  20. Anyone have any information on the Caverna job? I agree with what GCHS said...with the right hire, someone that is good at getting small schools to be successful, Caverna can be good. Looks like they've had a few rough years.
  21. I don't know much about him, but for a school with a combined record of 8-25, I guess I just think that a comment being made about hiring the first guy through the door is a little insulting. Here's all I know about Coach Harris... Harris tabbed to lead Lynn Camp football program - The Times-Tribune.com: Sports
  22. It kinda does sound like you are downing Coach Harris. If you don't know who he is, how can you label him as "the first person in the door?" Since you don't know who he is, maybe you should give him a shot. Lynn Camp has been 3-8, 3-8, 2-9 in the last three years...
  23. Great read. Gives you a glimpse of the character that Coach B has. Hard to believe coming from a rival, but Coach B will be missed. Thanks for the link mcpapa!
