  1. I know that Bellevue takes pride in being in operation since 1871, and both Bellevue and Dayton also take pride in being Independent, but it may be time for Campbell County North. I just really hate to see schools with such pride fall away to a shell of their former selves. In Bellevue's case, eliminating PE is a major cutback on several levels...not just athletics. Being from Oklahoma, where we did not have consolidated schools, I understand the desire to stay independent. However, when so many other school districts consolidated, it seems to have left some schools behind. I hope the powers that be can get this straightened out for the benefit of the kids in each school.
  2. A classy article written about a class act.
  3. Congratulations Coach B. You know how much respect I have for you, and I wish you the best. There's plenty of people that I don't like, but it was just one day a year in which I didn't like you...Game Day. :thumb: There's no doubt that you left Mason County in better shape than when you got it.
  4. And I personally think YOU should be on the MSU football team! Back to the subject of the thread...LionEagle was no chump in the weight room either...great leader!
  5. Don't give up on him playing DT for a KCU type of school. Whatever choice he makes, he will succeed because of his work ethic. He's the type of kid that will use the "you're too small to play here" line to show us just how much size doesn't matter.
  6. Dalton Stamm is the hardest worker that I've ever seen in the weight room. He is also a kid with exceptional character.
  7. Isaac Kelly from Lewis County will be one to watch this year. Incredibly athletic and has some pop in his bat. Throws Right/Bats Left. He is already one of the best athletes in the school.
  8. Congrats on the job, and Good Luck this season Coach Burgemeir. Welcome to our district.
  9. Best of luck to Coach Fields wherever he decides to go next.
  10. Three things... 1. Put more points on the board than your opponent - Defense and Special Teams can help this, but your offense has to score to win games. 2. Take care of the football - Hard to do number 1 if you don't have the football. 3. Convert third downs - Sustaining drives wears the defense down. Also, at this level, with as many kids that play both sides of the ball, the more you have them on their heels, the more they will wear down. This is also an example of hard to do number 1 if you can't sustain drives.
  11. I think Ray Graham is content at Rowan Co. There is a good tradition at Harrison Co. for football and baseball. If they hire the right guy, they can get back to their winning ways. I was surprised how quickly their talent level fell off. Good news...there's a lot of room for improvement.
  12. Lion Eagle...I like your thread. I think this will cause some good debates. I do wonder how Wes made it as a kicker...you remember the wet boot??? Also, there seems to be a DE missing from the list...#44...At any rate. Good idea and it'll be interesting to read the posts.
  13. Anyone that was at the Raceland/Williamsburg semi-final game knows this isn't true. I've seen some pretty bad officials, but they were definitely in the top 5!
  14. You should absolutely throw the flag, but you should enforce the rule correctly. This happened to us a couple of years ago. We were in the process of running a punt back for a touchdown when our head coach and the official ran into each other on the side line. The touchdown was allowed and the penalty was enforced on the kick. If it's a penalty in the 1st quarter, it should be a penalty in the 4th quarter. Why have rules if they aren't going to be followed consistently?
  15. I also don't have a problem with the comment made to the other coach...but I do have a problem with the fact that is was made in a manner that was loud enough for the players on the other team to hear. They just lost a game and that is one of the last things they should hear from the opposing coach. Again, if this story is correct and both coaches did what has been said that they did, I don't think there is anything wrong with the comment made. It just should have been between the coaches only.
  16. Russell from district 6 is a very good team. They ran the table in our district. From the teams we played this year, they are the most complete. They have the discipline you see from Coach Buchanan's Mason County teams, but they have a little more of an edge to them defensively. For that matter, Mason and Fleming are solid and might surprise some people. Our district was pretty strong this year.
  17. Every senior knew it was their last game, but they and the underclass men played their butts off. Most of these seniors I had in 7th grade my first year teaching, and it just sucks that they've played their last down. That being said, they went out with a bang...shutting out a district champion. Effort was great and we were able to do what we wanted on offense, and our defense was superb. There are about a billion what ifs from this year...I truly believe that we are the best team not playing this Friday and if we stayed healthy all season we would be very dangerous right now. Coach Hughes has us moving in the right direction and we are ready to put the work in this offseason. A couple teams that beat us probably out worked us last offseason and we won't let that happen again. To all the seniors, I love you all and will miss you guys more than you know. Show the world what kind of men you have become...do great things. There's a song by Semisonic called Closing Time...a fitting line from it is "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." 2015 starts now...and we plan on reloading, not rebuilding!
  18. Yeah, there were some play calls that I wish I had back, but we were in rythym moving the ball in the second half and I can't say that I regret the last four play calls. I do regret that we both scored 5 TD's, but we are 0-5 on conversions while west added two pats and a 2-pt conversion. Also, we drove into the red zone in the first half and didnt score...another regret. I think Everman did a great job filling in for Mason. He will be a huge factor for us next season. We've had a pretty good run of fullbacks at Lewis. A trend that I think will continue for a while. Our last two #44's have been pretty good. 😉
  19. I try to avoid commenting on our games, but I will say this...two teams playing for the exact same playoff spot...under a minute to go down 4 and we are inside the 10...man, that's intense. It's one of those situations that reminds you how awesome it is to get to coach these great young men...even when it doesn't work out. Going 0-5 on conversions made a big difference in this game. I've beat myself up all weekend, but we have to pick it up and start thinking about magoffin. This senior class is pretty special. Working with them in 8th grade and throughout HS has been a blast. When someone mentions some of the other good teams around us, and they say things like, "man it'd be great to have those athletes"...it doesn't take long for me to think about what Coach Corky Prater said a few years back. He said he'd rather win a few games coaching our kids rather than go 10-0 with someone else's kids. I do take pride in our kids and our program. Losing sucks, and I hate to lose at anything, but we still have one more night...senior night...for this team to go out and play like we know they can. West carter earned that spot. As much as I wish it was us, we had our chance...came up just that short. I think a lot of our fans had almost accepted defeat...but that opening kick of the 2nd half was like a b12 shot. We dominated the second half and we fought back. Very proud of that. There's no other place I'd rather be an assistant coach at!
  20. Haven't you guys figured it out yet...even comparing common opponents is not an accurate way to compare teams. If coulda woulda shoulda was true as often as you guys throw it around, then we'd have a state title or two here in Lewis County. I know it's for entertainment purposes and whatnot, but if you think you can get a good read on a team based on how they played a common opponent of yours, then you are in for a treat.
  21. That game was played at Fleming. Not to take away from anyone's predictions thus far, but Russell will need to be spot on to beat Fleming. They are senior heavy and play very well together. This will be a very good game.
  22. Well said. I graduated from Bracken before they started football. There's no reason in my mind for anyone to consider shutting the program down. Very young team. They will grow. They need your support.
  23. Nicholas. But don't let that take away from how well the Lions played. Nicholas is a tough team. They are young and will only get better.
  24. It is obvious that Fleming is playing better football this season, and they do have a good set of skill players. Don't count out Rowan Co. though, as they will only get better as the season goes along. New coach = time needed to adjust. Coach Graham is a proven winner and he knows the game. I do think Fleming wins this one, but the Vikings will continue to show improvement. Who knows, an upset could happen...
  25. This is football. I will be shocked if anything changes. Winning a championship game 2-0 or 3-0 still gets you the same trophy and ring. Good luck to all teams this weekend!
