I think fans will see a little different twist in the Panther offense during this game. Pikeville can win this game again, but good basic fundamental, mistake free football will have to be played. All players are healthy, and ready to go. Good luck to both teams, and a injury free game as well.

I think they are using Sophomore backup Wyatt Battaille in his place.

Might as well take #14 Corey Stevens out of the equation. Blew a knee in practice before the season started. Out for the year. Each starter is taking their turn wearing #14 for each game of the season dedicated to Corey.

Agree. At first glance, some would think this would be a cheap trick, or as someone called it "chicken snot football." I totally disagree. If a football team's line is say forty to fifty pounds lighter, and four to six inches shorter, then this would be sort of an "equalizer" I would think. It puts the responsibility on the larger team to counter that. The good thing for the smaller, less depth football team is the KHSAA allows it. Imo, Pikeville has a chance to repeat the win, if Daric Pugh is 100% healthy, and they play a near perfect game.

No. don't look for an upset from SC. Pikeville fell short last Friday evening to a good Paintsville team. That game could have gone either way. Anyone that watched it would say it was a defensive battle between two heavy weights trading jab for jab. In the end, Kash crashed into the end zone for the win. SC put up some good points against Betsy Layne last week. I think this program will turn around, and continue to improve. However, I think this loss for Pikeville being so close, and a hard fought battle as it was, will just make the Panthers even more hungrier. Paintsville has a good team, but Pikeville does as well. Lawrence is about as quick as any high school defensive lineman I've ever seen. Still think Belfry wins this one.

QB Dials did a more effective job passing in the first two games prior to this one, but just didn't happen tonight. I thought he showed much confidence tonight considering , but it just didn't seem to be part of the game plan.

What a game!! Thought my Panthers would win this one, but just couldn't pull it out. Daric Pugh was not at 100%. That was clear, but that is NO excuse. No doubt. Kash Daniel is a beast! Just hope we get another shot in November. Congrats to the Paintsville Tigers. A great team!

actually, that scenario played out last Saturday evening with LCC. Daric Pugh got all of his 176yds., and four touchdowns long before the half. Coach Mac pulled him, and Sophomore Evan Rhodes takes over from there racking up yardage. Don't have stats on him by the way. Quarterback Dials stays in for most of the second half, while backup Wyatt Battielle takes some reps. The remainder of scoring came on an interception return by Chattlin Jarrell for a touchdown. The other score came on a 30 yard strike from QB Dials to TE Andrew McNamee. Second and third string had their reps from there on. So yes, Pugh did his damage, and the starting QB got some more valuable experience. I do believe, and have always believed that any team can lose on any given night, if they're not on their game. In this Friday's matchup, I really believe Pikeville has the edge with it's overall team speed, strength, conditioning, and athleticism. Hope I'm right.

Pikeville did lose five starters to graduation that played both ways. The team also lost it's kicker to graduation as well. However, he has been replaced by one just as accurate so far; Evan Heffington. Only one miss in two games. Imo, this team would have been dangerous without the two transfers mentioned. However, we are extremely pleased to have them in the maroon and white. Jarrell, like Cody Estep is special. Don't know exactly what his time is in the forty, but he looks just as fast and quick as Estep was. With Cody Dials(QB), he's done a fine Job so far. Coach Mac, and staff are really pleased , even though this is only his 2nd start in as many games. He's not really been under fire yet, and we know the time will come. Cody is very accurate in his passing, and his reads. Footwork is real good, and has great speed as well. The offensive line isn't extremely huge, but big enough, and are very quick, and as previously mentioned are very well conditioned. They have great downfield blocking, and they stay on their blocks. Fundamentally sound. Never seen a defense at this School like this since the late 80's. This group swarms to the ball like ball hawkers, and they will knock your head off. I mentioned in another thread that this team is on a mission this season. Imo, this Pikeville team has what it takes to be as good as the Pikeville teams of the late 80's.(1987). If any of you old timers are out there, then you know what I'm talking about. Jmo.

This game will have statewide ramifications, along with so many things for both teams, and fan bases to consider. First off, both teams are going to be playing for pride. Both teams want to be "1 A king of the mountain" when this game is done. Pikeville remembers all too well what happened last season in the playoffs, and want to remove that bitter taste from their mouths. Paintsville wants to assert themselves as the annual contender representing 1-A from the East. Paintsville is a much improved football team. Kash Daniel is the "Real Deal" on both sides of the ball. The UK signee, along with RB Kent Phelps are a force opponents will have to deal with this season. Pikeville is looking and playing like the Pikeville of the late 80's under then HC Hillard Howard. This team is very quick, and has so much team speed especially on defense. So many weapons to choose from as this team is blessed with very good WRs. Really surprised to see so many making catches in the LCC game Saturday. Daric Pugh, as good as he is, is only part of the equation. With the athletes Pikeville have this season, and being on a mission, look for the Panthers to be 3 -0 after Friday evening.Jmo.

yes. Very well conditioned, and in shape......every member on roster is in playing shape, and no slouches with out of shape big bellies. The defense is very quick, and flies to the ball. Defense looks to be in playoff condition, as well as the offense. We'll see what this Pikeville team is made of come Friday evening. I say they win.

Good job. Whoever wins the Pikeville/Paintsville game; got a feeling there will be a lot to write about next week.

This game was over with long before the half. Pikeville's D smothered Williams all evening. Coach Mac pulled Daric Pugh at the half, and second stringers came in with a running clock. Williams last score came against the second string defense . Could have been worse as Pikeville's offensive line opened large holes for the backs to run through. Final score was 49-12 Pikeville. Gonna be a war next Friday evening at Paintsville.

Letcher's Freshman QB is green of course, but manages the game fairly well. They have an outstanding RB in the name of Jaylyn Williams(check him out on hudl). Their offensive line is stout, and their defensive line is pretty good. That's about all I know about them, other than their big weapon being Jaylyn Williams. This kid is attracting a lot of attention state wide. Going to be fun watching Daric Pugh and Williams go head to head.

Good illustration. I think it goes without saying that without good blocking, the running game is non effective. Pikeville's offensive line is no doubt collectively larger and quicker than last season's team. Last Friday's game would confirm that, if you compare them to last season. So, much can be said about the Panther's blocking up to this point. While he is a beast at RB, I'm sure Daric Pugh would admit himself ; it takes both.

Yes. That scenario would be interesting. The young QB Dials is actually more proficient in passing than Austin Charles from last year. Imo, the difference would be putting him in a situation where he's making reads and passing repetitiously. Last Friday being his first start, I thought he seemed more relaxed and in control than expected.

Some may think the Panthers are a one dimensional team (Pugh only). I don't think Coach Mac exposed any options that he does have. Noticed in the passing game, there were only screens and short routes with no vertical routes with the exception of one that was completed to Chattlin Jarrell. Look for an additional couple of Rbs that are very capable when they go up against Letcher Saturday evening.
