Who do you think wins and why?

Been excited for this clash of small school powerhouses since the schedules were announced!

 

Will discuss it in more detail later this week once I can study up on the Breds more, but a few things to note to begin the week:

 

- Will Jacob Smith be at 100%? This week was his first game back and he only played a limited role after being hampered by cramps throughout the game. Smith is going to be one of the best individual players Belfry sees so his role will play a huge part.

 

- Who plays for Belfry? The Pirates took on Harlan County missing their Starting QB#1, HB#1/CB#2, DE#1/HB#3, and OG#3. I expect Dotson to return to action (DE#1/HB#3) but Whitt is gone most likely for the season and the two suspended Pirates I would say are somewhere between Questionable and Doubtful.

 

- Horton vs. Lawrence. Possibly two of the best Dlinemen in the State will be on the field with Belfry's Ray Horton and NewCath's Maleek Lawrence. Both guys have the ability to change a game on each snap, should be interesting to see which one fares better for future All-State voting.

Absolute pleasure to watch. He has followed in the footsteps of former hard-hitting Breds Jack Sutkamp & Brady Thacker.

Loved watching him against Shelby Valley and DeSales last year. Very high on the kid. Great instincts and explosion and it's rare that you see a DT who is considered a "game changer"

 

Horton is a different style of monster. He is 6'2 295 of pure power who changes games with his ability to just overwhelm and toss aside linemen and get to the football.

 

They are two different linemen who are at the same time very similar. Both defenses feed off their ability to create penetration and make plays and both are guys you have to double team.

Lawrence is about as quick as any high school defensive lineman I've ever seen. Still think Belfry wins this one.

Belfry is no mystery, they have done the same things for years. The only thing that changes is the personnel. So far the run defense has been great but they definitely showed some weaknesses against Tates Creek. I'll be happy to help give you NCC fans who don't see them regularly a scouting report as the week goes on.

 

For starters, here is a couple of questions I have for NCC fans. 1. How good is their play on the line? Belfry's strength is in the trenches on both sides of the ball and this matchup will be very telling for the outcome of this game. and 2. What kind of speed does NCC have in their skill players? And overall team speed?

I'd expect NCC to be flat after that ride and Belfry gets the win.
