While much of the focus from Belfry will be on Smith and Lawrence, the same attention should be focused on Kobe Tallon as well. When he gets in his "zone".....:eek:

Belfry's Starting Offense has Ran 87 Offensive Plays, they have gained 846 Yards, and scored 14 Touchdowns.

 

That's an average of 9.7 yards per play and a touchdown every 6.2 plays :eek:

 

They havent exactly played against the Steel Curtain...but crazy stats to open the year, especially considering the Starters only played for a Half and one series against Harlan County.

 

Sophomore FB Derek Wellman so far has 18 carries, 218 yards, and 5 TD's. He is averaging 12.1 yards per carry and a TD every 3.5 carries. If you combine him and Andrew Fletcher the Fullback position thusfar has account for 355 yards and 8 TD's through the first two games.

NCC's front 7 on defense look pretty dang good to me. This is going to be a very interesting matchup between Belfry's hogmollies on the OL and NCC's front 7. If the freshman QB is still behind center for Belfry, then keeping penetration away from him will be a big key for the OL. If he gets rattled, it could be a very long night in the backfield. Now he hasn't shown any sign of being rattled yet, and has very poised and competent, but this defense is going to be much better than Harlan Co.

 

Does NCC stray from their base 4-3 defense? A lot of teams will load the box against Belfry and try to force them into beating them through the air.

Belfry's radio crew of Bobby Norman and Coach Steve Mickey are pretty good and only slightly homerish for the Big Red. Coach Mick retired from coaching a few years ago, but provides a unique perspective and a ton of insight. Bobby's play by play paints a great picture of the game.

They also update time and score and provide a stat run down at the Half and after the game. Something the sadly most other high school broadcasts fall short with.

Ultimately I think the key in this game comes down to Belfry's Second Level Tackling and NewCath's WR/QB battery.

 

I have supreme confidence that the Belfry LB'ers will be inn position to make the play against Smith and Harris when they bounce it outside, I also feel confident in the CB's and Safety's to be there in run support and when the pass is completed. The key though is actually locking up and making the sure tackle.

 

As for NewCath.. they have to maintain balance and make their passing game a "win" for them. No interceptions, no overthrows or dropped passes to wide open men. When you catch a 6 yard pass you have to use your size advantage to get up field and turn it into a 1st and 10. What Haywood will do is try to take away one thing you do well.I am going to say the power game between the tackles is what he will take away tonight. When this happens you have to make up for it by making plays at a higher frequency in another area.
