  1. Trey Salisbury, Boyd County, has also signed with Eastern. Coach Stein has picked up some quality Kentucky kids. Best of luck to all the Eastern signees.
  2. What about Conner Robinson, Sam Hunter, and Trey Salisbury. They were the representatives for the JR Showcase in Lexington this year. All had great summers, and probably will sign DI scholorships this fall.
  3. Old Guy: How about the kid from Boyd County? That threw against you all in Louisville. He has pitched every big game the lions have had this year. 1.38 ERA 85 consistantly, can run it to 90, but definetly beats the zone. Hopefully the lions make it out of the sixteenth this year and the rest of the state can see this kid. What do you think? Where's the love.
  4. Brad Cornwell is the best catcher in the 16th region. His defense and offense is by far more superior than anyone I have watched. I felt he was 2nd only to the Logan kid at Greenup last year. Brad did some things even better than him, but all around, I think Logan had him. It helps also that he is a good kid also.
  5. All of those schools have fall baseball. Coach Logan, Coach Ramsey can help you get on a fall team. I am sure the High school will have the information to be able to get ahold of them. Thier fall teams play for the high school for which they coach, so I would check with which ever one you will be playing for.
  6. I still don't understand why you people can't just answer the question! All I want to know is: If they transfer out of Rose Hill, how are they eligiable to play at another school if they don't or do live there? I just want the kids to be able to play. The Adams kid went through alot of trouble to transfer from Ashland, then to Russell, then finally Rose Hill, sat out a year only to transfer again because of these alleged problems that Rose Hill is having. I am sure each case is different, but it would be a shame to let this go. The outcome of this decision will effect every team in the 16th Region. If all of this is true, Fairview becomes alot stronger, Raceland becomes a contender even more than it already was, while all the rest remain the same. Expecially East Carter, who I thought had a decent chance of being 16th Region champion. Any thoughts on this.
  7. I guess my question is this: What are they going to do about eligibility requirments that have been in place since the start of the KHSAA? Most of the kids in question live out of state or in another county. The Kennedy kid lives in Carter County, the Adams kid lives in Boyd Co. but played in Ashland, the Bush kid lives in Ashland, so forth and so on. So how do you gain eligibility when you were out of Dist. going to a privite school and then become reinstated going to a school that you did not want to go to in the first place? I just don't understand. PLease help!!!!!! I hope they rule on the side of the kid.
  8. Pettit and Spicer from Boyd County
  9. Bottom line to this whole thread is if you teach your kids how to play fundamental baseball and catch routine pop ups and flyballs and groundballs........you take the umpires bad/good calls out of the mix. The Mullin kid pitched a whale of a game, but his defense did not back him up very well. I admit the errors were even but the errors RH made were routine.
  10. Mr. Old Guy: I have seen alot of games at Boyd Co. High School. The game I witnessed from Cov. Cath. and Franklin was probably one of the best I have seen ever. I have encouraged our coach to vote for Mr. Maile. I had the opportunity to talk to this young man after the game and he was as good of a kid as I have ever met. Good luck to him and Cov. Cath. for the rest of the year. Look forward to having you all again next year at our tournament. We will get some free bbq. next time.
  11. Ashland has beat the Lions twice this year. Who are the Starting pitchers and who will step up and lead their team to a 64th Dist. Championship.
  12. Final: Ashland 5 Boyd 2. Freshman against Freshman and this one goes to Sam Hunter. Nice job all the way around for the Tomcats. Boyd just could not match them on this night.
  13. I believe that you must be a Freshman or above and played any varsity sport. If you were under a Freshman and played a varsitysport you may still move and transfer, and not sit out. The Whetsell kid from Ashland played varsity basketball for Rose Hill and moved to Ashland this year and was elligable. So did the Kennedy kid from East Carter, and he was a Soph., but had not played any varsity sports at East Carter, but went to Rose Hill and played.
  14. March 13th Lawrence At Boyd March 21st Huntington High WVA AT Boyd
  15. They started two freshman two jr's and a senior, 1st off bench was a soph. next off the bench was a 8th grader and next off bench was a soph. Woops I stand corrected 1st off bench was a senior, then the order after that, so tell me where these 6th and 7th graders are going to fit in. They need to play the compition so when they get there they are more than ready to step in and finish what these others have started.
  16. Yes, we will be serving the Bar-b que again and lets not forget the lemonade....freshly squeezed. I think the baseball will be great also, as in years past. Look forward to seeing you all again!!!!!
  17. The head coach nominates players from his team, usually his starting 5. Head coach's are not allowed to vote for their own players. Its not always the best players for the whole tournament that gets picked, because there are representatives from every school. winnner gets 3, 2nd gets 3, 3rd gets 2 and 4th gets 2. Thats the way its been explained to me from head coach's and athletic directors.
  18. The Seniors you are in reference to one quit to have a good time with friends, one quit for his baby, one quit because he is a baby, and one quit for a motor cycle career. I have read many quotes from other threads on Boyd Co. basketball, there is no one walking the halls to help this team. A coach can only keep a good attitude and try to keep the kids interested and playing something they love to play no matter winning or losing. No matter who coach's this basketball, including Bryan Lemaster himself could win with the enrolled boys at BCHS. Coach Wooten put himself in this situation because he loves BCHS and he loves basketball and teaching kids what he loves. The kids obviously still respond to his passion, because since the QUITERS left this team has battled from the beginning to the end of the game. Some define success in wins and loses, I define them by what kind of a child Coach Wooten has made my child, and I guarentee that you can learn alot from losing............most of all CHARACTER. Through most of these treads that I have read, I can assume most are BCHS gradutes, try to show some CHARACTER from what we learned when we were winning and support our program in a time of need.
  19. Only 2 of those are returning starters. The catcher you spoke of is Brad Cornwell. He is probably the best player on the entire team. Tengowski logged the most innings last year, and is'nt the Spicer kid playing basketball? The Arthur kid is unproven and stays hurt, he was even hurt during football season. He is a natural athelete but very unproven, still alot of un-answered questions for the Lions. Coach Ramsey is the man when it comes to judging his talent and I look for him to put together a good team. Not your typical Boyd Co. team though with domanating pitching and defense, should make for a interesting season at Boyd to see if small ball pays off against probably the toughest schedule in the 16th.
  20. I think you will find that the parents that question the coach's are the same parents that there own children question everything at the house also. I guess I am old school, if my dad or mother told me something or any adult for that matter, I would believe it and not question authorty. I bought into anything my coach's were selling, and played to the fullest of my ability. I try to instill this in my son today. To give 110 % and eventually no matter politics or no politics the creame always come to the top. I don't see anyone sitting the bench that could be averaging 20 pts and 10 rebounds a game or a kid that throws 90 and runs a 6-8 60. The kids we are talking about are the marginal kids that just love to play the game.
  21. So, if Boyd is so tough who do they have returning. From what I know about their program, I think there is only 1 returning starter from last year.
  22. Boyd should be number 2 behind Greenup, over the fall Ashland had everyone of its potential starters and Boyd basically had its JV and beat Ashland 13-7. IMO, just like basketball, everybody's playin for second, Greenup is the team to beat!!!!!!!!!!!, from top to bottom they have the most complete team in the 16th region. The only thing that could happen is the injury bug. Good luck Greenup.
  23. Maybe if some of the baseball players would play it would help. I heard the Arthur kid is a real talent and so is the malloy kid. I heard that one of the Assistant coach's said they could take 5 kids off the baseball team and beat the JV right now so maybe all the talent is in baseball. Are'nt the baseball players allowed to play basketball and is there any playing?
  24. Well said, IMO Boyd could not win a good 6' and under tournament with the talent they have from senior all the way down. When you get out rebounded in ballgames by 20-30 rebounds a game, and everybody knows rebounding is about desired and effort, you must go to the 3-point line and try to win. I've only seen Boyd Co. once or twice but they could not hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle. My heart goes out to Lion fans and coach's, but there will be basketball in Boyd Co. no matter how bad it gets and no matter who the coach is. They can't be like Elliott and be a 1-sport high school. Who knows, if things keep going the way they are, basketball might become a participation sport only at Boyd. Where every kid gets to play required minutes, no matter how good or bad you are.
