Cocoa Beach

Featured Replies

I have noticed from the KHSAA scoreboard, there are several KY teams going to Cocoa Beach for baseball from 3/29 - 4/2.

Where exactly is the venue, is it a high school, or what? Anyone with info?

:notworthy::idunno:Darn shame that none of those poor public school kids are getting to go on trips like the rich private school kids are going on! Seems those rich private school kids sure have an advantage by going South to play baseball in some nice warm weather early in the season. My guess is the rich private school kids parents can afford trips like this, unlike the poor parents of the public school kids..... Where is the KHSAA when you need them to level the playing field!

I am not sure your intention with this post. There are rich and poor alike, that is just part of the world, but any parents I know would do everything in their power to come up with the money to let their kids go on a trip like this (which according to the link is only around $300).

Just having fun, as I knew most of the team going south, as many have done the trip for years. When you didn't mention any of the teams going I am pretty sure some thought it must be the rich Private Schools kids but in fact, it is the Public Schools kids who go, and yes I know they (meaning their parents) have to pay the cost to attend or work very hard at a fundraiser for the team trip.

BTW you didn't include my j/k (just kidding) in your quote of my post? If you pick and choose quotes from mine or any other posts the meaning of the post changes dramatically.

The below was left from your quote of my post below, and as you can see, the meaning of the post is completely different when you leave the below line out of the post.

OK. I just thought you may be making an issue with public schools vs. private schools. I know that is a totally different debate, and there are differences of opinion on both public vs. private.

I just think this is a good opportunity for any kid that gets this chance. I have always thought that everyone should see the Ocean at least once in their life, as that is one of the greatest sights I have ever seen, and still amazes me every time I get a chance to go see it. No matter where the kid goes to school it is a great thing for them to go.

Hope to see you in Florida!

Actually it's around $600 for Boyd's kids to go, probably varies per school. It crams a lot of baseball into a week and certainly is an advantage over other schools early in the year.

Looking very forward to the Boyd Town Square Bank Derby Classic as over the years the games have been great, the food outstanding and we are treated very, very well by Boyd.....

You will be serving the Bar-b-que again won't you? It is indeed to die for!

Cocoa Beach has a nice beach! The Expo was not very impressive, looks like it was nice 20 years ago, fields were average, the stadium was rundown, did not look like it had seen paint in quit a while. That is a parent's opinion from 2008!

Cocoa Beach is always good to get some games in some nice weather early in the season. Its good for the players to get the opportunity to travel and get noticed by someone who might never even travel to ky.

Yes, we will be serving the Bar-b que again and lets not forget the lemonade....freshly squeezed. I think the baseball will be great also, as in years past. Look forward to seeing you all again!!!!!

JOOC, what fields were you not impressed with? The aerial shots of the various field sites on the website posted in post #2 all look pretty darn nice to me. I'm hoping to somehow convince our coach to give this a shot next year.

The experience is great, the baseball is great, the fields and facilities are average at best, but very usable.

Playing ball is Cocoa is far from a vacation for the kids. Maybe for the parents but not for the kids.

When I went we played anywhere from 4 to 7 games a day and practiced at night. The weather was HOT. We were on the field every morning by 6:30 warming up for our first game of the day.

I actually ended up going to the hospital on day 3 because I was dehydrated.

The competition is great though and really gives the teams that are fortunate enough to go an upper hand on the local competition.
