Yes and no. They are not talking about their teaching salary with that. Some schools like Madison Central give extended days on their contract. I think teachers are signed in for 180 days or 185 but as a coach you get your styping and 30 extended days to put you at 210 or whatever the contract reads. What ever you make on a normal teaching day you add up your gross pay divide it by 180 or 185 ( I can't remember the exact teaching days) and thats what you make an a normal teaching day. You will get paid 30 more days at that daily rate at certain coaching areas. The better the degree you have the more money you make in teaching and in coaching. So it isn't always a base set salary your degree matters in it as well.

I don't know much about this so hopefully can give me an example guru. For example if you want to go to Lexington Catholic for High School and play football where do you have to be living at or attend middle school at?

Some people stay in the public system to meet their 27 years and they retire but then they go back and teach or coach in the private system and then you are double dipping. Great way for educators to make money on down the road.

I think you are referring to Private Schools when you said keep the Catholic Schools out of the conversation. I assure you Paul Rains makes great money at LCA in Lexington. The big danger in coaching at a Private School is you do not get the Kentucky Public School System Retirement Plan. 27 years in the Public School system and you can retire but Private Schools do not have that. But as far as a year to year pay check you can make a lot of money coaching at a Private School. Different rules and regulations.

I don't think Hensley has any problem with his job. Dunbar has been 0-10 before in the first year so they have been poor before. The big difference between Dunbar from 2005-2006 is the loss of a lot of Senior skill players and 06 Dunbar lost a lot of close games that the 05 won. In 06 Dunbar had many sophmores on the field at skill positions and this year they have grown up a little bit. Henry Clay has ran away with the district the last couple of years but everyone else has been close. Dunbar was the runner up in the district in 05 and I know everyone thought Dunbar was awful this year but Dunbar was leading in the games against Tates Creek and Lafayette in the second half in the 06 season and lost both games. This is only a four team district this year so everyone will make the playoffs. Dunbar has to win the close games is the big thing they must improve on and that should be easier to do with most skill kids returning for the 07 season and the 08 season the year following. I put the scores of the 05 and 06 season up to see how close games were in both years just went to the other end in 06. I know why Lexington teams do not win state titles. You either do like some coaches in Lexington and let your kids do nothing all winter and show up on game night and win against teams with far less talent, and then get blown out by more disciplined teams who have talent as well, or you work hard in the off season and then kids quit because they want to be lazy or go play the tough AAU crap.

I know I have a very close relative who works there. We are always giving Model a hard time. They were the ones who were wearing "Model Football Undefeated for 40 years" They brought some grief on themself

Scott County I think is a little better than everyone. Then Lexington Catholic, Madison Central, Tates, Creek and Bryan Station are all pretty close. Model is still celebrating their HUGE win over one victory Berea to enter the tournament. :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Trinity will roll over Lafayette. Lafayette has a good team but they may drop some this year from where they were a year ago.

I saw Jeremy Caudill at a Whitesburg weight lifting competition in the winter/spring of 1999 and he squatted well over 600 lbs. Dead lifted somewhere from 600-700 if I remeber right. He didn't bench much that day because he just had shoulder surgery. We heard that he did 405 before his surgery. The power clean I thought was the most impressive. He cleaned 315 that day. It looked like the bar was about to snap. He is by far the strongest I have ever seen. This was still in his junior year when he did those numbers so I'm sure they went up.

I'm quite certain that you have this backwards on Scott County unless Sam Simpson did a 180 in the past few months.

Thats only 4 of the 7 non district games that they play. Do you know the other three?

There needs to be something done about Basketball and Baseball in this state. There are so many rules against football like when spring ball can be, when kids are a loud to go full pads, when the first day of practice is and etc. Basketball and Baseball play all most year round with the school teams and then they take the same teams in AAU. Could you imagine the up roar of basketball coaches if their was an AAU Football team for high school players. In Kentucky we can not even scrimmage someone for spring ball. In Florida, they have a Ref's clinic where a team can play 4 or 5 teams in a day. It's designed for Refs to practice calling games. Then Florida teams can play in one full game scrimmage. They get 5 or 6 on field scrimmages against teams in the Spring. If Football has to be punished by scheduling rules in this state basketball and baseball should be as well.

The players come and stay in the Dorms at UK for about a week in June in advance to practice. You couldn't have kids missing school for a week to come to Lexington in April and UK is still in school so it would be difficult to have a free dorm for the teams to stay in.

It looks a lot like a college campus. It's not one school building but many.

I know making these things aren't easy and someone has to be left out but I would have put Clark Jeter from Henry Clay in there somewhere. Most likely one of the athletes.

If that's the case that is fine with me but I do wonder if Ammons had beaten out Petrino, would Petrino not be on the list?

ATH - Kaelin Ammons, Franklin County I don't quite understand this. I have no problem with Ammons being on the team he and Petrino were the top two quarterbacks in the state. But I didn't think the Athlete part of the of the All State was for second team. I don't understand Ammons being an Athlete pick when he clearly is a quarterback. This brings a complete different swing to the athlete section, for kids who were beat out by another kid.

11th region has to do with the draw. Scott County has to play Madison Central, Lexington Catholic, Bryan Station or whoever in a row is what makes this region so hard. Scott County may be better than all of the other teams but to win 3 in a row is very hard. They found that out last year.
