2007 Henry Clay

Featured Replies

What does Henry Clay need to do to improve in 2007? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I would think that HC would take a step backwards after losing some talented kids. Inside sources on this site claim that HC will be even better in 2007. I think they return their O-line and QB. I also think they return most of their defense. I think they have a huge hole to fill with the departure of Minniefield.

They lose Minnifield and Jeter. Aaron Boyd returns but rarely touches the ball.

Their QB last year, Ryan Phillipi, was a Sr. I think.

Henry Clay seems to have more talent then any other Lexington school, so they reload easier than others.

That is true but I seem to recall many of us thinking that they would have a down year after the seniors of '05 left too. They could likely be the best team in Lexington again next season.

As it is I still feel they were the 3rd best team in 4A this season after Trinity and Male.

The QB is a junior.

The Blue Devils will have a lot of room for improvement on the defensive side of the football. Last season's defense played well against one-dimensional (running only) teams. They played eight or nine in the box and shut these teams down. More balanced teams (Scott County, Christian County, Lafayette, and Trinity.......I am trying to forget, but it is still too vivid) had great success lighting up the scoreboard.

"Son of Bear".....you stand to be corrected. Aaron Boyd touched it more than you think (53 catches for almost 700 yards and 5 touchdowns), but he was quiet much of the time. Aaron is not a very assertive kid. That should change this year! Ryan Phillipi is the quarterback and was only a junior last year. He threw for nearly 2500 yards and 32 touchdowns while running for nearly 700 yards. Donte Gay is back after gaining over 1000 yards in 2006. The entire offensive line is back and should be outstanding under Coach Joyce's leadership. This team is loaded with offensive talent, again!

Henry Clay is 24-4 in the past two seasons, but this team must prove they can play with the Big Three which they have failed miserably at the last two successful campaigns. Can they? I'll keep you all posted!

Who has beaten HC the last couple of years?

Two of those 4 losses have been to the Shamrocks.

Two to Lafayette on the last game of the season both after 9-0 starts. Both on come from behind victories by the Generals.

The word "loss" is not appropriate for Henry Clay's two semi-final meetings with Trinity. Both severe butt whippings!

A matter of semantics.

Henry Clay will be scrimmaging Ballard and St. Xavier and playing Warren Central, Boyle County, Boone County, and Cincinnati LaSalle as part of their non-district schedule.

Coach Simpson is doing his best to attempt to prepare his team for one of the Big Three in a potential state 6A semi-final game.

I see they are scrimmaging some teams from Louisville. Have they tried to schedule the Big III for regular season games? Not that their schedule is by any means weak, that looks like a solid schedule to me, I just figured since teams from Louisville have been their main stumbling block the last two seasons that they would want to try to meet those teams early on.

Scrimmaging St. X will definitely help them though.

Henry Clay will still be a pretty good Football Team.

My understanding is that Henry Clay has previous contract arrangements which kept them from scheduling a regular season game with St. Xavier. It is not that they did not try.

I can't speak for Male and Trinity.

FYI.....teams from Louisville are every team's stumbling block for the large class championship.

Thats only 4 of the 7 non district games that they play. Do you know the other three?
