  1. Mason County should stay unbeaten also. Mason plays Greenup County who has only 3 wins and has lost to two teams Mason has beaten.
  2. The field was wet and sloppy. It rained up until about 15 minutes before game time. For some reason the ball seemed more slippery than in games where it was actually raining. Maybe it was because of the mud. That hurt Mason's passing game. In the second half Mason stuck to the run a lot more.
  3. It's a statement to Harris' ability when you talk about "holding him to 100 yards." Mason's defense did an excellent job in the second half. Congrats to the Royals. Good to meet you too, mcpapa.
  4. It wasn't always pretty but a wins a win. The rain stopped shortly before the game started and the field was pretty messy. Once again Jordan Gilbert made a play that amazed me. His touchdown catch and run was fantastic. In the second half, Mason showed they have power as well as finesse.
  5. Every parent's nightmare. Our prayers are with them and their families.
  6. As I remember, it didn't rain during the Lewis County game and the field was reasonably dry. The Harrison County, Russell and West Carter games were all wet. Mason Co. should be used to rain and mud.
  7. Oops, accidentally double posted. The browser wasn't bringing up my comment.
  8. Tossing in a sophomore, Josh Harris of Mason County. Yes, he's a great running back, but he's averaging 10 tackles a game at linebacker plus he has 3 fumble recoveries with 2 returned for touchdowns in 8 games. He hits like a sledge hammer, too. I can hardly wait to see what he'll be like his senior year.
  9. Quite true. And, not just skill players but some good linemen. Another point is that Mason has played 3 of its last 4 games on wet fields with rain. Obviously this slows down their offense and neutralizes their defensive speed some. How they stack up may depend more on the weather for them than it does for some other teams. Especially since Mason has more passing yards than rushing yards.
  10. Harris is a sophomore. Colleges can't contact him yet, but he will be. There are some other players getting attention from D1 schools. At this time I don't want to mention names.
  11. I'm a Mason Co. fan all the way, but I like that attitude.
  12. I hope not but I'll take it one game at a time.
  13. I haven't seen Fleming Co. play this year but watched them twice last year. Their greatest deficit was a lack of team speed. I'd find it hard to believe they've picked up enough speed in one year to beat Mason this time around.
  14. Gilbert's diving catch was fantastic. It probably would have made an NFL hightlight. The field was very sloppy. West did give up an interception but overall was more successful at passing than I ever expected. Mason's defense was sporadic, especially the pass defense. Several times Mason's defense held tough on 1st and 2nd down and then gave up 10-15 yards on 3rd.
  15. I'm guessing it's because the districts were realigned this year.
  16. Good points. Who else plays on your own team makes a difference too. Neal Pawsat at Mason County has 1190 yards passing with 12 TDs. He'd probably have more but Josh Harris at running back has 79 carries with an 8.95 yards per carr average and 13 rushing TDs. Thus, rushing and passing are pretty balanced making huge numbers for either one less likely. Of course, I hope all the top rushers and passers appreciate the offensive line that makes it possible.
  17. Taylor Barnes is only the second best running back Mason County has played against IMHO. Darrell Cross of Rowan County gave Mason more trouble and didn't have as big an offensive line in front of him. Bourbon has some 300 pounders. Cross has 1301 yards on 130 carries which is a better per carry average than Tevin McCaden or Taylor Barnes or Miles Simpson. Cross is very elusive and can cut on a dime. I'll go with Miles Simpson though. Watching him on TV the other night, he has a great combination of speed, strength and agility. He was almost unstoppable.
  18. I never make score predictions because I'm always wrong. But, MCHS sees that golden ring now and is getting more fired up every day. I think they really want to show their stuff these last 3 games and be (I think) the first MCHS team to go undefeated in the regular season.
  19. The fact that Pawsat and Gilbert are juniors and Harris is a sophomore is pretty frightening. They're two big offensive tackles, Eads and Newton, are both juniors, too. Tight end/linebacker/defensive end, Tyler Black is another good sophomore. Plus some other good juniors and sophomores. I don't know if they'll be this good next year but they'll be solid.
  20. Good game for the Royals. A tough third quarter though. Russell never quit.
  21. Soddy Daisy out of Chattanooga TN Soddy Daisy is actually outside of Chattanooga 15 or 20 miles. I attended the University of Tennessee and had a professor who would always ask if anyone in the class was from Soddy Daisy, because of the funny name I guess, he said almost always someone was. I called Alcoa over Bell Co, but,I'm giving this one to Bell Co.
  22. Good points. Many seem to be considering the rain a positive for Russell but considering last year's game in a cold drizzle, it could favor Mason. It certainly didn't hurt them last year and they're the same type team this year with a bigger offensive line.
  23. Hadn't thought about that. You're correct. I'm pretty sure it's rained the last 3-4 years at least.
  24. Mason passes a lot more than Russell and more successfully. 102 attempts, 63 completions, 4 interceptions, 1106 yards, and 12 TDs for Mason vs 39 attempts, 12 completions, 7 interceptions, 217 yards and 4 TDs for Russell according to KHSAA stats. A heavy rain would most likely slow down Mason's passing game. Josh Harris averages over 9.3 yards a carry for Mason, Travis Jones, almost 8 per carry for Russell. Mason has allowed 105 points so far and Russell has allowed 86. But, Mason has scored 226 and Russell only 101. Mason County wins but it's closer if it rains.
